I'm not suggesting there's a Hiro Murai extended universe but both Station Eleven and 3005 >!contain a plane crash into a ferris wheel and a wild fire around a ferris wheel. Both the Boy and Jeevan both where a similar jacket. !<
My thought is that Hiro is making a little reference to 3005, not really an extended universe. But I thought it was cool.
Something that drew me to Station Eleven from the outset was seeing Hiro Murai as the director of the pilot and an executive producer. I first came to realize his brilliance through the This is America music video, which he directed. The symbolism he was able to hide in almost every shot of that video showed me he was more than your average director. Then, I got hooked on Atlanta and after a while could pick out the episodes directed by Murai in just a few scenes. The shots he plans out are next level, especially his use of natural transitions, like panning across a doorway or a window. And his surrealist influence shines through in his work (Iβve seen interviews where he cites Haruki Murakami as an inspiration).
Watching Station Eleven has been like an ode to Muraiβs craft. Though he only directed Eps 1 and 3 (so far) you can see his stylistic influence in every other episode.
I will admit that his style sometimes makes it hard to follow a narrative, but the whole point of surrealism is to push a viewer to suspend their belief of the literal mechanics of a story to better appreciate the symbolism and emotion of the story as a whole.
If you love this series, I encourage you to look into more of Muraiβs work. Heβs relatively young, and I think he has a bright career ahead.
Just sucks when great creative work gets destroyed in corporate drama.
What a great, unique concept and the pilot was fantastic. :/
Edit : Trailer link if anyone is curious. https://youtu.be/tbgDx4pFX9U Idk if the Pilot is still available on Amazon Prime or if they totally removed it. Probably will also be dead on torrent sites so idk how one can watch it anymore.
Just caught up on Atlanta and really enjoyed it and noticed a lot of the episodes were directed by him and he seems to be someone whose episodes I have been enjoying when he is involved as director, with the recent Barry episode being a prime example. Anyone have a director of TV who they enjoy?
Hiro Murai it's a amazing tv director and i will be fucking thrilled, if this guy directed some episodes. Here's why:
1)He did wonderful job in Atlanta. Show who had surrealist and unique tone, just like Watchmen
2)He directed a couple episodes of Legion, Murai understand comic language very good
3)He did a work for HBO before. Hiro directed a couple episodes of a Barry.
When i checked out Lindelof Instagram i notice that Murai likes posts related to Watchmen. Maybe it's a sign.
