A list of puns related to "High Violet"
How would you put songs from this album on the tier rating list (S, A, B, C, D, F). For those unfamiliar with the tier rating system, it is basically the standard grading system A-F, but adds in S at the start for βsuperior, superbβ. Hereβs an example of how you can apply the rating system here:
S - the absolute best (shouldnβt be more than one song) A - really great songs, some of your favorites overall B - above average, songs you really like and listen to often C - average song when compared to others in this album, you do enjoy listening to them but are not stand out songs D - donβt care for much, skip over often F - might as well wish this song was never written
Please donβt just put all songs in S category. Even if you love the whole album, youβve got to admit that some songs are better than others.
Hereβs how I rate them:
S: Lemonworld
A: Bloodbuzz Ohio, Vanderlyle CBG
B: Terrible Love, Conversation 16
C: Anyoneβs Ghost, Little Faith, Afraid of Everyone, Runaway
D: England, Sorrow (Iβm sorry for this one, but I just donβt see what everyone else sees in this one)
I loved seeing everyoneβs picks in the last post, even if I didnβt get to reply to each one individually!!
I've never been one to pay real attention to lyrics in music but in High Violet's case it was kinda unavoidable since I listen to the album so often. I only realised it once I started reading the lyrics and wow; they are "miserable" to put it mildly.
My favorite lyrics have got to be from 'England' because it sounds like me:
"Put an ocean and a river between everybody else Between everything, yourself and home"
What are your favourite lyrics from the album?

It's supposed to help with reducing wrinkles, eliminating acne, hair growth, and reducing blemishes and is based off of Nikola Tesla's Tesla Coil. It sounds amazing, even Edgar Cayce recommended it.

Has anyone tried this?
Long story short, I had a relationship where a key thing we bonded over was The National, specifically High Violet. That relationship ended in June last year and I haven't heard a single song from the record since then. Yet on a whim the other day, I bought the anniversary version as I feel it may be time to give it a shot. That relationship is long gone and I feel ready to listen again, and even if I don't have a good time, at least the vinyl look pretty...
When I say high I mean i got plenty! Just name ur price or each and go from there!
has anyone gotten it? its been 3 months and nothing

INDECISIVE is easily one of the best songs that dropped this year. EASILY!
cw// depression; suicide
Hey Iβm brand new to this community and honestly pretty fresh to The National in general. I just started listening to High Violet about two weeks ago. And about a day after I heard it for the first time my relationship that had been on the rocks for a while ended. I wasnβt paying the closest attention to the lyrics the first time but every time I listen to it now every song hits harder and harder. Iβve been dealing with untreated anxiety and depression for a long long time and dealt with suicidal ideation before but itβs never ever been as bad as it is now. They were genuinely all I had that made me feel right and now that theyβre just gone I have no idea what to do with myself.
Runaway hits particularly hard out of all the tracks. Especially since every time I talk to my ex about the situation they make it out like Iβm trying to make them feel guilty about it. Which Iβm not, I just genuinely havenβt talked to my issues to anyone else for the past two years and I donβt know how to not turn to them with my issues. After getting out of work today I put the song on in my car and as soon as I heard the first line βThereβs no saving anythingβ I started sobbing. By the time I got to the first βwhat makes you think Iβm enjoying being led to the flood?β I was loud, inconsolably wailing along to it. I didnβt ask for this situation and I didnβt ask for these feelings, I didnβt ask to constantly be the closest to killing myself that Iβve ever been, but itβs the hand Iβve been dealt and I donβt blame them for anything at all but I have no idea how to deal with everything Iβm feeling and up until very recently theyβre all I had to stabilize myself. Iβve had a hard time conditioning myself to not turn to them immediately when I feel shitty and as a result they just donβt want anything to do with me anymore and logically I know itβs not my fault. It canβt be my fault. But itβs entirely my fault.
Also Iβve lived in Ohio my whole life and I fucking hate it so Bloodbuzz hits close to home as well
I dunno what the point of this post is or if anyone cares but I just wanna thank this band for making an entire album that perfectly encapsulates the bleakness that Iβve been going through lately. I hope this community is nice lol
