A list of puns related to "Hideo Nakata"
Which one of them do you think is the better director?
The movie takes place on a film set and the cast and crew begin to feel uneasy about the place. It is an enjoyable little ghost story. It has a nice creepy atmosphere. The movie they are shooting also looks interesting. You can definitely see the signs of what is to come with the director's next film! (It is Ringu, for anyone who doesn't know :))
I would recommend it.
TSZDT 243 and TSPDT 5252 in 2021; Director: Hideo Nakata; Writer: Hideo Nakata, Takashige Ichise, KenβIchi Suzuki, Yoshihiro Nakamura, Koji Suzuki (Novel); Watched December 30th on the Arrow Video Special Edition Blu-ray (AV068)
101 minutes. The love of a parent takes many forms and there is no limit to what they would do to protect their offspring.
Imagine this well-trodden trope inserted into a horror movie that was immediately one of the creepiest and most oppressive atmospheres ever put to celluloid. Hitomi Kuroki plays a recently divorced mother - Yoshimi - who is looking for a new apartment and a new job to support her daughter, Ikuko. The apartment they find seems to have water damage but they give it a shot as the price is right. As they settle into their apartment the water damage gets worse, as does Yoshimiβs mental health.
The terror in this film comes from the slow leak consuming more of the apartment walls, daughter Ikuki discovering some secrets from the community that involve a missing girl, and the audience looking to understand the borders of reality and a mental breakdown.
Culturally, anyone watching movies around the mid-2000s would probably know this plot as there was a remake with Jennifer Connelly that was fairly popular in horror circles. The film has an overall optimistic message, which is crazy to think about since Director Nakata takes the audience through at least one level of hell to get there. For me, this film still works on a rewatch because of the atmosphere and because itβs heartbreaking to watch mother Hitomi wrestle with so many real-life pressures while getting no support from her ex-husband or the school.
An exercise for exploring the genre (and a road to triumph over fellow challengers), The Checklist Challenge features several categories with a spread of qualifying entries from the general to the very specific, and from the well-known to the obscure. One film could fulfill multiple items. Example: Dracula could fulfill requirements for decade, rating, actor, vampire, and possibly others as well. Some of the items on the checklist can be fulfilled by the suggested films for The Theme Weekends Challenge.
This is a supplement to your chosen ROHMC films; you are not required to use the checklist as a template!
***THIS IS A DISCUSSION POST***
Please feel free to use this space to ask questions, ruminate on appropriate films for each category, freestyle rap, or make general observations about the checklist. Feedback absolutely appreciated.
I will be adding expansions, explanations, clarifications, amplifications, and suggested films here as needed.

... keep reading on reddit β‘Below is an excerpt from my Master's Thesis and is by no means an authoritative text for anything comprehensive.
First, I will discuss common tropes of yΕ«rei and how they differ from their Western counterparts. There are often two depictions of ghosts in the West, the more childish description of a white figure in something akin to a sheet and a shape more like a potato than a human. The second is that of a human who is either unable to accept they have died or died in a way so tragic they remain earthbound.
There are different types of yΕ«rei that I will discuss later, but the most common depiction and the depiction we will be concerned with the most for this paper are women. YΕ«rei depicted as women often have long stringy hair.
The depiction of yΕ«rei with long disheveled hair might suggest freedom from societal norms and synonymously symbolize a state of independence where the patriarchy had no jurisdiction. Through this lens, one can begin to see how the imagination was free to play with what a scorned woman might do with newfound freedom.
They often wear a white kimono folded right-to-left rather than left-over-right, limp hands. In some instances, a triangular headdress indicates earlier Buddhist funerary practices. However, what gives a yΕ«rei its βcreepy factorβ are the tiny balls of energy known as hitodama (δΊΊι), which are associated with ghostly energy and the soul, and an incomplete form with no feet and cannot touch the ground.
Further, ghosts in the Western tradition have more flexible natures; Hogwarts' friendly ghosts seem in stark contrast to the angry spirits found in the film A Haunting in Connecticut. Yet, both dialectical interpretations of ghosts do not damage their archetype. While some Japanese ghost stories are similar, the yΕ«rei is less flexible when compared to its Western Counterpart.
Unlike their western counterparts, the yΕ«rei obeys specific rules; as Zack Davisson notes in his book YΕ«rei: The Japanese Ghost,
>YΕ«rei, on the other hand, follow certain rules, obey certain laws. They are bound by centuries of culture and tradition.
In the West, we do not often think of categories of ghosts, but that is a concept one needs to understand for this paper's purposes. Because Japan is an island, there are a host of maritime ghosts associated with shipwrecks known as funayΕ«rei (θΉεΉ½ι or θεΉ½ι). There are yΕ«rei associated places or circumstances known as jibakurei (ε°ηΈι). Also, some women were recently made mothers and d

Well, it's that time of year again! My wife and I are going to be spending our first Spooky Season in the house we bought last November, so we're excited to do some decorating. We also had our third child on Wednesday, so I've made the decision that I'm starting my checklist as of September 15th (effectively the 18th, as that's the first day I watched a horror film). It's not totally above board, I suppose, but it's definitely my best shot at completing anything close to the challenge/checklist. I'll be trying in October specifically for 31-in-31, but I figured I'd start knocking out checklist stuff along with Hooptober stuff now.
I know shorts count, according to the sidebar, but I'm going to tag them with a [s] so I know in my checklist, at least.
