Did Henry V of the Holy Roman Emperor die of cancer, and how do we know this?
I am interested in whether or not historians are confident that he died of cancer. What contemporary reports lead us to believe so? Would his illness at the time (if it was cancer) have been recognizable as a terminal condition, or would have physicians have had little idea of why he died? Thank you.

Saint-Ulrich, France. Situated at 528 m (1732 ft), this castle was used by Henry V, Holy Roman Emperor, as a strongpoint in his war against the Eguisheims. It later survived two sieges (1287, 1293) before it was dismantled in the Thirty Years War. I'll post a reconstruction and more in the comments.

What did Pope Gregory VII do to the envoys from Holy Roman Emperor, Henry IV?
In the Alexiad, Anna Komnene spends more than a page describing how Pope Gregory did something to the envoys that Henry IV had sent to him in the midst of the investiture controversy that was, βbeyond the insolent behavior one expects from barbariansβ and that if she described it βpaper would have been defiled.β
She talks at great lengths about how what was done was so despicable that even thinking about them causes her conniptions and so she dares not to write of what was done. She writes that βthis particular form of chastisement was novel, the invention of the Pope himself.β The relevant section is on page 62 of the Penguins Classics edition.
To what is she referring to? Thanks in advance for any responses
