I posted a while ago but got no replies so here I am again.
Ok so this was a while ago, I think March to April last year, and I was wondering if we could still do anything about it. Our apartment building has these storage lockers that they rent out to tenants, and some of them fall right under the apartment pool. The manager and other people who work in the building know that the pool often leaks into the storage units and they put up signs telling people that they shouldnβt splash in the pool. Although it was just a small sign they put on the door for maybe two weeks. So one day we need to get something from our storage unit, we go down and start to empty it out and everything was wet. The further we went in the more wet it got. And after about 5 minutes of taking stuff out of the locker we noticed that a lot of the stuff was moldy, like really moldy to the point where it smelled. Idk exactly how mild works but clearly this wasnβt something that just happened in one day. We start to empty the locker and it just gets worse and worse. In total I think it was a couple thousand dollars worth of clothes and other stuff that was beyond repair. Along with a bunch of personally valuable item like irreplaceable pictures, my momβs wedding dress, my baby clothes and other stuff of the sort. We went straight to our renters insurance agent and they said it would be covered if it was the apartmentβs fault. The manager of the building put it off as rain damage, and therefore it was no longer covered by our insurance plan. Now Iβm not a genius but that was in no way rain water. To clarify, the lockers are built under the building in whatβs basically a concrete box. It would take a comically long amount of time for rain water to get into that spot. However there are a lot of pipes that run through that area and the building managers knew that they could be leaky at times; hence the sign they put up for a bit. Is there anything we can do to get at least a portion of the money and items we lost? Edit: I forgot to mention that I live in Minnesota so that should help clear things up at least a bit
