A list of puns related to "Hazard Perception Test"
How does this part of the test work? Thereβs two hazard, so you identify 2 of the different hazards in the video and score 10 points altogether ?
Hi everyone
I hope you are well. I am gearing up to get my licence in NSW and have my hazard perception test booked in for next week.
For some reason I feel really nervous about this. To prepare I have been doing the 35 practice scenarios here https://www.hazardperceptiontests.com.au/ but I feel like I'm not prepared enough...
If anyone has done their test recently, do you have any tips?
Are the questions in the hazard perception test the same as the scenarios here? I noticed that they're the same ones on the iphone app as well
I've heard that on the slow down response questions, you should respond as soon as the clip starts. It doesn't register as correct on the app/practice tests, but I have heard that this works for the actual test. Is that true?
Thanks!
EDIT: Hi everyone - just wanted to say I passed the HPT! Thanks for all of the advice and support - looking forward to taking my driving test now - yikes!!
Just some advice for anyone else looking to take the test:
The test questions were the same as the practice questions.
Though the test questions are the same as the practice questions, the timing and feedback seems to be slightly different. I did the practice questions to warm up and did them as I had been practicing and got feedback along the lines of "Not bad!". My first practice question was the one with the lady with the pram, and I stopped as I had been. A big sad face popped up and said something along the lines of, "You stopped in time but you could have stopped sooner.". It kind of put me off a bit thinking that I was going to stop at the wrong times in the other clips. The actual test did not provide any feedback until the end of the test, as described in my next point.
I don't think you have to get every answer right, but it doesn't give you a % that you got at the end. I got a message saying something along the lines of, "You passed but the test has indicated that you have room for improvement. The testing officer will indicate where you can improve." but no one said anything to me after the test, just good job and I was on my way.
This didn't happen to me, but I think just as I came in, the person across from me failed either the HPT or the DKT. I think it may have been the HPT because the price was the same as the the HPT. Just wanted to let anyone know that if you do fail, it seems like they will try to get you in to do another test immediately if they
I understand that the multiple choice questions on the theory test are specifically for motorcycles. But what about the hazard perception videos? Apparently they are exactly the same as the ones used for learning to drive a car. Is this true?
Is it if I click every 3 seconds throughout the video?
If i see the hazard, because this is the dumbest most arbitrary shit I've ever done, I click multiple times so I don't click too early. Does clicking like 3 times in quick succession count as a pattern?
I heard there was 7 answers per question on the GOV website and that's concerning because multiple questions I've been studying have been 4 answers to choose from.
My highest score is 49/50 + 60/70 on the mock tests.
Hiya so I've got my theory test tomorrow and was just doing the last bit of revision and mock tests today and just wanted to check something. So I read somewhere that they reuse the actual theory section questions from the ones on the DVSA learning stuff online but I just was wondering if this was the case for the hazard perception section as well? I'm just a bit worried that I'm getting them correct just on the fact that I've seen them before and if they are different tomorrow then I'm not going to do as well as in my mock tests.
Also if anyone else has any words of wisdom for me and general theory test advice that would be great :))))
I've got my motorcycle theory test next weekend, which is great. I've been driving a few years and before a car I had a moped for 3 years, so I'm fairly well versed in road etiquette on 2 wheels and 4.
I'm pretty confident I'll pass the theory no problem, but have been doing some practise tests anyway, just to make sure and recap on some biker-specific bits.
The hazard perception bit is killing me!! I'm passing them, but just scraping by on the scores, and when I review the videos, it's because I've gone earlier than what they've designated as the scoring area! It's so frustrating because my experience on the road is that you need to be planning ahead for everyone else and expect the worst case scenario - this is even more true on 2 wheels as we're so vulnerable. It's just driving me mad that because I've clicked a second before (which is when I have noticed a potential hazard ahead) I've got zero points, instead of 5. And not to mention the practise I did today where I scored zero because I "clicked too many times" but the video had a dog running loose in a non-fenced area, kids running down the road as well as a car about to pull out of a side road! facepalm
Anyone else notice this?? It's like they've not even considered what it's like to be on 2 wheels when making this test.
Rant over haha
Update: I tried the technique of click... Click... Click and just got 67 out of 70 on the mock test!! Thank you all for the advice! Now just to do that in the real thing!
Hi everyone, I have my HGV theory, hazard perception, and case studies tests in a few weeks and am wondering what the best study materials are to buy to help me with the tests. I'm also wondering if anyone has managed to find a downloadable version of the study materials. I managed to find a convenient downloadable study software for my car and motorbike theory tests, but I can't find anything for HGV. Thanks!!!!
Am I right in thinking that the real test will only be using CGI videos, and not the live action ones? I seem to be loads better at the CGI ones - maybe through years of practice playing video games...
Also, are the CGI videos on the app the exact same ones used in the real test, or are they just made for revison purposes?
Apparently it was updated earlier last year and got harder. I just sat mine a few days ago and passed. Here are some tips for the upcoming test-doers.
Welcome to add more!!
Hazard Perception... tough concept to crack right? Here's exactly when you should click, how often & how to get 5 marks on a clip!
Yo... so what is a hazard? β οΈ
A hazard can be anything that may cause a driver to change the speed, direction or even stop the vehicle.
You will encounter hundreds of hazards in your everyday driving such as roundabouts, junctions, traffic lights. These are known as static hazards.
However, static hazards are not what you will be scored on in your Hazard Perception Test, but rather your ability to spot developing hazards.
Ok then... so what is this developing hazard thing? β οΈ
A developing hazard can be anything from a pedestrian stepping out into the road, a child running between parked cars, or a car exiting a driveway.
As part of developing your Hazard Perception Test skills, itβs essential that you learn to look out for the early warning signs of a developing hazard.
To do this, you'll need to put in lots of revision and practice time!
But you must also be able to understand how different situations can potentially develop into a more serious hazard.
What are some examples ofΒ developing hazards? β οΈ
A good example of a developing hazard could involveΒ seeing a ball roll out across the road ahead of you thatΒ could potentially be closely followed by a young child.
Or, as in the image below, There's a cyclist coming out of a junction that will most likely join the road you're on.
The sooner you learn to spot a developing hazard, the quicker you can react and avoid unnecessary action that could potentially cause a serious collision.

Right ok. So how should I click? π±οΈ
You should click for anything that has the potential to develop into a hazard, and then click again a second time, if it DOES develop.
You may want to click a third time if the hazard continues to develop and there is time to do so.
If the βthingβ you saw (and which you acknowledged with a click) DOES NOT continue to develop, then simply donβt click a second time.
By following these rules, you maximise your chance of scoring 4 or 5 points (thatβs what the first click is for), at the same time as minimising the chances of scoring 0 points and/or being accused of having cheated (thatβs what clicks 2 and 3 are for and why we recommend a maximum of 3 clicks for a developing hazard and
... keep reading on reddit β‘Also I booked my theory test for the 3rd December. Is that a good idea or should I push it back a tad bit just in case it gets cancelled again?
I've just come home from taking the theory test. I got 50/50 in the theory and 65/75 in the hazard perception test. I was a bit nervous at the start but took a few breaths to calm down and then everything began to come back. The two things that really helped me during the test itself were
If you have a theory coming up, good luck. Do a little every day and you'll do great!
Hey guys.
Any tips on the Hazard Perception Test? I've been passing all online simulations and practice tests, including the apps. When I sit for the test, i fail! tomorrow will be my 4th attempt. I've had a lot of experience on the road, I'm 30! but yeah - did the test today thinking i had passed, but no.
Strange thing is, when you finish the test it will tell you what you need to work on. But the ones i needed to work on i didn't click the button because there was no safe gap, i never overtook a cyclist because it wasn't safe - and always clicked slow down when the break lights come on... intersections i hardly ever click because you either don't have right of way or it isn't safe... what am i doing wrong guys? anyone else been in this situation? I would love some feedback on your experience and any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated. :D Thank You!
:
If I score a 0 on one of the questions do I fail or do I pass still if I get more than 44 points? What if I miss one of the hazards in the clip with 2?
Does the hazard perception test contain the same videos as the ones youβll practice in driving test app?
Not feeling confident since I have memorised all the ones in the app and itβs no longer a test for me just repetition.
Hi!
I've now failed my HPT 3 times. I don't know of many others who have failed this. I am aware of all the road rules and have gotten 100% in all practices. Have I perhaps been over cautious?
Would love to hear from you guys any advice on where I might be going wrong :(
I just failed my theory due to the hazard perception, the video before hand stated it would give me 5 points for noticing it as soon as it appeared and 1 for when it was last second, however in the video it awarded me no points for noticing it early; for example seeing the blue flashing lights approaching the tunnel before I see the ambulance, when should I actually click as it broke my heart today as I passed on everything but that just because I saw the problem before it was dead on in front of me.
Edit: Second time around and I passed my theory! Thank you to everyone who gave advice <3
Hello all,
VicRoads introduced a new HPT test to get a licence. You can find the details on this link below:
I found a HPT simulator on WA's Department of Transport website and I thought it might be useful for the people who will be taking the test in the future, link below:
https://www.transport.wa.gov.au/licensing/hazard-perception-test-simulator.asp
I booked my HPT test for this Friday, 13/3/2020. Has anyone taken the new HPT test? If so, any tips and suggestions for the people who will be taking the test?
This subreddit gets a lot of questions around new DL tests. Don't panic, but there is a new hazard perception test coming along for new drivers. It is designed like a computer game, and you have to pass it to get the license.
Hey Perth! Just wondering if any of you fine folks could tell me anything about the hazard perception test required to get a license? I could fine sweet FA info about it, except that it is a computerised test to gauge a learners reaction times to hazards. Perhaps it is vague on purpose? Iβm not sure what to expect and anxiety is fucking with me about it. Anyone take it recently? Cheers <<33 ~Jen
Edit: spelling
Just did my theory (passed the multiple choice with 48/50) but I have to vent a little about the hazard perception test. I've been driving since 1991 and am also an IAM-trained driver, so consider myself to be a fairly decent driver. I do a hell of a lot of cycling too, I reckon I have pretty good road sense. Clean licence, never had any points.
But the hazard perception test is largely guesswork. I'm confident I saw every single developing hazard on there, but the fear of clicking too many times, or in a pattern, or not enough, just made me sweat more than I should have. Kids walking along the pavement - that's a hazard. Cars approaching from the other direction - hazard. Cars crossing my path - hazard. Blind crest - hazard. You get my point. But the test just seems to focus on "if you don't do anything you'll crash here", which is a bit silly. And the CGI "driver" made several errors, like overtaking a cyclist way too closely on a blind corner with parked vehicles on the opposite side of the road, or changing into a prohibited lane on the motorway. Are those hazards? I don't think the test marks them as such.
In the end I got 56/75 (you need 44) so all's well, but I'm left feeling that a better solution would be some kind of touch screen interface where you can actually identify the hazards, rather than just clicking a mouse button.
Anyhow, onto the phone now to sort out my course so I can get my full licence.
"No luck catching them swans then?"
hey guys, do you know how many questions we can get wrong for the HPT in NSW??
I'm doing the test tomorrow. My mate reckons it's not like the practise tests? Any advice
I failed my hazard perception. If i were to retake, would it be the exact same set of clips?
I have just done and failed my hazard perception test however I did spot 11 of the 14 hazards but didnβt get enough points to pass the test. Does anyone have any advice for the next time I take the test
Just here to help ππ»
Just wondering if anyone know how many questions are on the HPT? On the DoT website the simulation test has 3, which seems to be a very short test! So I am assuming there are more than 3 questions.
TIA
