Previously, I've done around 1g a few times.
Last night I did my first journey with around 3g of HI PES. My scale is not very accurate down to the single gram so it may have been more or a little less than 3g. (I need to buy a more accurate scale).
I started around 10:45pm. I was trying to finish up the hockey game between Vegas and Colorado. I got bored and decided to partake.
Initially, the come on was pretty mellow. I didn't feel much, maybe a sense of calm and sleepiness. I laid down and drifted to sleep.
Around 2:30am, I became very restless. Every movement I made or texture I touched with my hand or leg translated into patterns in my mind. I was swept up by colors I don't even think exist. My eyes were closed and I could fixate on these patterns. I felt very euphoric.
Eventually, I was funneled through an upside down pyramid.
The patterns were focused to an end point, but still very symmetrical. I reached the end and I was in a bright void. All sound stopped. It was the quietest environment I had ever experienced. The only thing I could relate it to is the silence of a vacuum. I couldn't even hear myself breathing or my heart beating.
Then a hand appeared. Pearl white, almost like gypsum. It looked like maybe a window had opened? Circular, not rectangular. In the hand of this form, was a sphere which I believe was to represent a planet. I asked the form, if it was god, with no response. Silence remained. My feelings and emotional response at this time was a sense of responsibility for myself and for the loved ones in my life. I don't know if that meant taking better care of myself and the environment, pursuing a career in space sciences, or being a better friend and steward of my relationships.
And then there was nothing. I was in my room, and I could still fixate on visual patterns, but they were different this time...more organic in form and color. I remained restless until about 4am, when I fell asleep again. I tossed and turned until sleep came. Not out of discomforts or displeasure. I think my body was just hyper?
Overall I am very pleased with the experience and look forward to exploring more. Nothing about this experience felt negative, or dreadful. Maybe neutral at worst, euphoric at best.
I did experience an evacuation of my bowels like nothing I've ever had before. I imagine this is what taking a laxative is like? (I never have). Is this common or worth concern?

Some friends and I are going backpacking around southern Colorado in a few months. We plan to hike around the area of the Spanish Peaks as well as further north in the mountains between Crestone and Westcliffe.
One goal I have is to hopefully find a single interesting gemstone or mineral specimen. My expectations are rather low, I don't expect to find anything particularly beautiful or larger than a dime or so, but I'd like to find something. I come from an area where besides some geodes, the coolest rocks I've come across are snow white gypsum deposits and a few small pieces of very colorful flint. I love those but I have seen them so often I'd love to try to find something different.
Are there any rules of thumb for identifying where gemstones generally might be found, like are there specific rock types I should pay attention to on a map or are there visible features in the land that could tip me off? What kinds of gems and minerals could I even hope to find? I see on mindat the whole Sangre de Cristo range has a wide range of interesting minerals and gems, mostly around Taos. Is that specific to the rift valley in the area or do those minerals occur through the mountain range?
All of the formal writing on this area I've found focuses on mining for gold and such and hasn't been too helpful seeming (unless I'm a dummy and just don't know how to apply that information to what I'm trying to do.)
I read rumors that you can find stuff as interesting (to me) as jasper, beryl, azurite, garnet, quartz, fluorite, and even some tellurium based compounds. I'd love to find a small sample of anything like that but where would I even begin to look when I'm out on a hike?
I hope I'm not being too general with these questions, and if this is an unanswerable question I'd love to learn more about this area geologically in general.

Please consider changing rule #6. I love this sub, but the recent influx of NSFW tagged posts that get all the upvotes, just seem wrong when there are good solid DAD jokes being overlooked because of them.
