A list of puns related to "Guðni Th. Jóhannesson"
In a press conference with reporters, President Jóhannesson showed great interest with meeting with Drumpf saying, "Whenever a political super-power gets a new head of state, the political landscape is shaped. Whether that is good or bad is dependent on the leader. I wish to speak to Drumpf not only to ensure that this landscape is changed for good right now, but to ensure that future generations have a bright future."
He also showed great concerns about his proposed campaign plans to stop protecting NATO allies if they don't pay their fair share. The president was quoted saying, "While I agree that the other countries, including ourselves for that matter, need to pay their fair share, not only is it hard to suddenly segment off 2% of the GDP to defense, especially if you are in a situation like us where military is not the biggest thing on our plates right now, but it becomes even scarier when you take into account Russia's increased hostility. Thus this amplifies the need for me, personally on the behalf of the people, to speak to president Drumpf."
[M] I'm not sure if Russia in this role-playing is still hungry for territories like in real life, if this is not the case then please correct me.
Greetings, from the Land of Ice and Fire, European friends.
At midnight, the 31st of July/the 1st of August, Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson formally relinquished office as the President of Iceland after having decided not to run for office for a record sixth time, having ruled for 20 years, and having been considered as the longest reigning non-royal (elected) head of state of any country in the world generally viewed as having fair elections.
His reign was 2 years shorter than that of Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus and 2 years longer than that of Denis Sassou Nguesso of the Republic of the Congo.
Viewed from the perspective of the prevailing European and North American social model, the office of the President of Iceland is very different than that of most heads of state in the Western world.
Having its powers inherited from those once held by the Danish king, and most European monarchs having since WWII reformed and assumed a mostly ceremonial role, the President of Iceland is one of few, if not the only, European head of state simultaneously holding the power to veto laws, proclaim laws, proclaim legal immunity, absolve anyone of any crime, establish and dissolve governments, force new elections, and shut down parliament.
Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson perhaps most memorably came into the global spotlight in the wake of the 2008 Great Recession, of which Iceland, having been hit harder than perhaps any other country, was considered to be the first casualty with bleak visions of the future, after his internationally controversial decision to veto the dreaded IceSave agreements, the Icelandic governments agreements with the British and Dutch governments, which would have amounted to national bankruptcy.
Some time later, after Iceland had surprised all with a seemingly miraculous recovery from the 2008 Great Recession Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson was quoted at the World Economic Forum in Davos as saying:
[“Why are the banks considered to be the holy churches of the modern economy? Why are private banks not like airlines and telecommunication companies and allowed to go bankrupt if they have been run in an irresponsible way? The theory that you have to bail out banks is a theory that you allow bankers enjoy for their own profit, their success, and then let ordinary people bear their failure through taxes and austerity. People in enlightened democracies are not going to accept that in the long run. We were w
