Supplements for autism, ADHD, anxiety, mood, gut health and brain fog

Please note I already take magnesium glycinate, zinc, vitamin b6, NOW’s Candida Support, Biocare’s Methyl Multinutrient, Oregano Complex + Mindlinx and GI Distress by Body Ecology.

My biggest issues are apathy, inattention, executive dysfunction, intrusive thoughts, dissociation and brain fog. β€˜Healing my gut’ worked wonders for the brain fog back in 2020 after I was found to have Candida via an Organic Acid Test. But I slipped up last year and alas, the lack of mental clarity has returned with vengeance.

Any additional recommendations/comments on my current stack would be most welcome. Thank you.

What effect does long term PPI have on gut health and bacteria?

I've been on Pantoprazole 20mg for my small hiatal hernia for around 7 months and have recently started noticing some strange symptoms. Most noticeably persistent hives and skin issues (back acne, petechiae, hives coming and going). This has also been accompanied by shortness of breath and general fatigue, along with some post-nasal drip.

I know this is kind of a melting pot of symptoms, but I'm totally healthy otherwise. 22M with no history of disease, no drugs/alcohol, exercise regularly, drink lots of water, no known allergies. I went to see a allergist for the hives and he said it could be an infection causing the hives and skin issues.

I guess I'm just wondering if sustained PPI use (even at a somewhat low dosage) can cause imbalances in gut bacteria that can lead to infections? Or if anyone else has had these symptoms.

Need a tasty bubbly beverage that is healthy and good for gut health? Brew your own booch!

We recently whipped up a big batch of homemade kombucha, and the flavours were outstanding so I wanted to share!

If you don't like the taste of kombucha but still want the health benefits you can try brewing it yourself. I am not a huge fan of the sour flavour so I can control that by not fermenting it as long. Our booch is light and flavourful :)

The orange lavender is my favourite, but the other flavours are, rose and orange, and a raspberry + lime + grape!!

Love using dried flowers alongside fresh fruit I find that they complement each other well, but also we cannot wait for the spring when the fresh rosebuds will be out in our garden!

[18M] Embarassing gut health problem. I need help.

I'm a male, 18 tears old, 1.86 cm, 72kg. Previosly I had problems with my belly. It would make weird gassy noises and i could not control it. It was usually worse in the morning and night and in the afternoon sometimes I didn't have many symptoms. I can't sleep in the same room as other people because it makes these noises some more noticeble than others. It was a problem in school especially in the morning because I couldn't get the feeling that I pooped all I had to poop and it would make more noises in class (more often near the waist zone when im sitting). I needed to go to the bathroom 2, 3 and sometimes 4 times in the morning and I didnt lose the urge to poop. And my poop was quite messed up. Sometimes it was loose stools, sometimes it was liquid and very rarely it was good. I didn't have nausea or abdominal pain, only when i tried to contain it (or maybe I just got acustumed to it and don't feel it anymore, I'm not sure). It all started 3 years ago, before that it was normal and I didn't have any problems (I don't know if it's importante but it started around the time i started doing really intense exercise, weight lifting and running for a little more than 1 hour a day, i didnt take any steroids or drank energy drinks and I stopped training a year ago). Recently I took a saccharomyces boulardii probiotic for two weeks and my poop is a lot better (I hadn't done anything to try to cure this before). Its like a normal person most of the time. And I poop 1 or 2 times a day. But i still have lots of gas in my belly. And the farts smell really bad some days and the poop is not perfect (only sometimes). I live in Portugal so I frequently eat pasta, rice, potatoes, vegetables, fish and meat (of all kinds, but chicken and tuna more frequently), bread (everyday i eat two small breads), and other foods of that kind. Most of what I eat is natural and not processed because I live in a small city and we often buy foods from farmers but we do have supermarket food in our home. I rarely drink drinks with sugar and once a month I drink alchool. Recently I noticed some things that trigger symptoms more than others. Its Nestle Cerelac (wheat), it happens when I eat a large quantity and when I go out to drink I normally have diarreah like symptoms (most of the time just in the morning) and more gas than usual. I also suspect of some other foods. If i drink lots of water I normally have less symptoms. I'm trying to get my belly to be peaceful and silent as it was befor

repaired my gut health thanks to fiber fueled

My wife figured that years of using antibiotics to fix my sibo had totally thrown my gut microbiome to chaos. This boom and program was challenging to switch to, and I most definitely wouldn't have made it this long without my wife. However, I went from being bloated and miserable all the time to being better and more comfortable than I've been in a decade. It's a plant based diet thats about reducing every FODMAP irritant and slowly reintroducing them. I saw positive results in two or three weeks. I committed to being plant based after two months. 9 months later I've lost and maintained my weight, i can eat garlic (with the aid of iberogast and peppermint pills) and drink alcohol. It's so refreshing to not feel limited or constantly in pain. Anyone feeling at a loss should try this Fiber Fueled book and diet. Its about eating a wide variety of vegetables to introduce a large range of good bacteria while keeping FODMAP irritants down and slowly reintroducing them at your own pace. It's amazing and life changing for sure. I'll sing It's praises from the rooftops.

Unpopular Belief but it’s helping me: Seb Derm and Gut Health

All dermatologists I’ve spoken to claim that Food isn’t related with Seb Derm.

But i want to personally share that after confirming I have Gut Health/ Gut Leak problems using a GI Map test, I’ve gone on a diet + gut supplements which somehow seems to keep things β€œat bay”. Again, I’m not saying I’m free from SD. I’m just saying the recurrence of flares are less horrible (used to have endless flares even with Ketoconazole tablets).

My Diets: No Gluten: since Nov 19 (7 Weeks) No Grains: since Dec 13 (3.5 Weeks) Gut Supplements: Dec 13 (3.5 Weeks) Also no added sugar for 7 weeks.

The Results so far:

  • significantly less hive flares
  • more manageable Seb Derm
  • blotchy red face on cheeks has become more subdued β€œpink” so it’s reduced inflammation

What I’ve been taking:

  • Probiotics-10 25B
  • PostBiotics: TriButyrin (designs for health)
  • PreBiotics: GI Permeability Support (designs for health)
  • Telfast 180mg daily
  • Cetirizine 10mg daily
  • Vitamin D (prescription, 25,000 IU once a week)

What I’ve been using:

  • cetaphil cleanser
  • Sensibio DS Purifying Cream moisturiser twice daily
  • Elidel on SD prone spots twice daily for 2 weeks

I am not out of the dark yet but for anyone who’s tired of using Azole tirelessly- u might want to look into your Gut Health.

Back on keto since the 1st. After some initial "bathroom issues" the first few days my gut is appearing to be in great overall shape. I am taking a probiotic enzyme supplement daily as well. Had a 10 ounce ny strip for dinner last night which typically makes my gut angry, but there was none if that last night. I can only assume that I over worked my gut while not on keto and/or the absence of glucose makes my gut work more efficiently. Less food and less sugar, so not sure which is affecting it more. All good though either way.

Gut health

Little update and a reminder to people who are interested.

I recently took antimicrobial herbs for sibo however I also have general disbioses. I've had these things prior to pssd. Nevertheless for a few days at the start of taking these herbs my pssd was cured atleast symptom wise. I then continued to take them but it actually made my pssd worse than baseline. Since stopping my function is still bad. I've have gone back to how my symptoms were at the start of pssd in which even with Viagra my erection is very weak and shrunken. I'm reminding myself to not be too concerned as it just shows I need to focus on microbiome.

The point in my post is Im now sure that my progress with pssd over the last year was to do with my microbiome healing or atleast my microbiome was allowing me to heal. There's plenty of studies you can find that show how ssri alter the gut microbes. With a quick Google you can also find the names of specific bacteria that meditate serotonin dopamine, norepinephrine, gaba etc.... This doesn't mean necessary that it's as simple as taking a probiotic because it's about the balance of bacteria in our stomachs, otherwise the changes won't stick. The best way is ongoing diet in my view

Ive noticed, quite understandably that people with pssd are interested in quick or quicker fixes like suppliments. Obviously sometimes if choosen wisely these can help but diet is in a way medication for pssd. It really does alter how our bodies function, heal and run.

If I could give any advice it would be first of cutting out sugar, sweeteners and processed foods. Eating many species of vegitables to enable a diverse gut microbiome. Reading about this and becoming interested in it has really helped me realise I do have some control over my recovery.

Incase anyone's interested I started pssd with extreme ED, it felt like my dick wasn't properly attached to my body and even with Viagra I couldn't hold an erection. No sensory pleasure. No morning wood or attraction to women. Untill my recent set back all these had improved by about 50% in one year.

Why are improvements in gut health so seemingly non-accumulative?

It seems like many people, such as myself, who have compromised digestive systems, often from stress and antibiotic usage, can sometimes make progress but if they slip up just once and drink alcohol or eat sugar they essentially go back to square one.

Why is this the case? Can you eventually rebalance the microbiome so you can essentially go back to normal no matter if you slip up and if so how long does it take?

Also, once you are compromised, many of the foods apparently good for your gut such as whole grains and fodmaps etc actually make your symptoms worse so it’s really really difficult to make consistent progress.

Made a huge breakthrough with my gut health

I don't want to bore everyone here with all of the sad backstory of how I got sick, because I'm sure everyone here has a story like that, but I've been sick for about 6 years. My gut health collapsed as a result of poor diet, medication, and antibiotics. I've seen a lot of the classic symptoms. Yeast overgrowth, SIBO, C. difficile. I've had every symptom. Low testosterone. Popping joints. Fatigue. Loss of muscle mass etc.

I've been relentlessly trying hard to find out if it's possible to treat this naturally. I've made some big improvements this year, with the latest one making the biggest difference. These are the rules of my diet.

-Eat only organic whole food. Organic food isn't healthier, but it's going to have SOMEWHAT less antibiotic use, or less harsh antibiotics. I've found it easier to digest and that my body produces better stool when I eat organic.

-Don't eat after 7pm. Gives your intestines time to relax etc.

-Have a basic intermittent fasting schedule. I don't follow this too rigidly but I basically eat between 9am and 6pm.

-FOOD ROTATION. This is the latest change I've made and it's made a huge difference. I think it prevents your body from building up an allergy to things. I eat chicken leg+breast for my meat (it's the part of the chicken with the most selenium and zinc), and then I rotate the carbohydrate and veggie, then add olive oil for fat and extra calories.

-Drink at least half a gallon of water daily but ideally more. Drink distilled water. Same logic applies since we're trying to avoid killing good bacteria.

-Do at least a small workout daily in the morning

So my diet looks like this

Vitamin C

-organic lemon (I squeeze at least a full organic lemon into a glass of distilled water every day. I use a straw as it's acidic and I don't want it to mess up my teeth)

Protein

-organic Chicken leg + breast

Carb rotation

-organic multigrain rice

-organic red potatoes

-organic gluten free oatmeal

-organic gluten free qunioa

Veggies rotation (All organic)

-Kale (I keep kale as a staple and don't rotate it since it's the best calcium source and I've had low vitamin D issues, I combine about half kale with every other vegetable

-Broccoli

-Carrots

-Bok Choy

-Mixed bell peppers (Red, yellow, orange)

I also take a vitamin D supplement. 2500 IU with my first meal. It's Gel as Chloricaliciferol.

Since I've been eating this routine, I've experienced very little brain fog, consistent stools, and I've been s

48 hour Fast for Gut Health

Last night after dinner I started a 2 day fast to help with some IBS and to give my digestive system a break. I picked up the IBS after a group bachelor party (before that my gut heath was great) and I think I picked up some gut bugs from one or more of the guys there aren't the best and I haven't been able to shake them using natural herbals like wormwood.

I know there are others who fast for gut health and not weight loss, so I wanted to share my plan of action as I've done this a few times even though I'm pretty consistent at 10% bodyfat (and with less fat stores there is less wiggle room).

Basically the idea of fasting for gut heath is to give the body a break from digestion, allowing the tissues of the gastrointestinal system to regenerate while the microbiome balances to better symbiotic function through nutrient depletion.

The last meal before the fast should have vegetables and fiber so that the microbiome can in the large intestine can help process it for a longer period of time, this having the added benefit of producing short-chain fatty acids which help to keep energy levels smooth. I'm doing a dinner to dinner fast, so my next meal will be Saturday dinner, more on the importance of a proper refeed meal below.

I find green tea fasting is easier than straight water fasting, so I'll be drinking 2-3 cups of green tea both days. Green tea improves fat oxidation, reduces appetite, and contains a lot of plant polyphenols which are powerful antioxidants that help heal the gut.

I'll also be drinking a herbal tea consisting of reishi, nettle, peppermint, and chamomile. The peppermint in particular is helpful for gut health and gently anti-microbial.

I may further boost the gut healing effect with a turmeric and piperine supplement (2 g turmeric, 25 mg piperine). Turmeric is really good for the digestive system and piperine is derived from black pepper which is also a very powerful gut healer.

I'll keep activity low so I don't deplete my glycogen stores too quickly, only going on a walk one day and doing some light yoga on the other. It's best to do gut health fasts like these when you can block out the schedule and not be beholden to any outside commitments.

For electrolytes I'll use a pinch of celtic sea salt when needed. The refeed meal will contain plenty of electrolytes naturally and a 48 hour fast is pretty short. The refeed meal is very importa

Any Dietary Ideas for IBS-Constipation? Trying to work on my gut health.

Hello, I have not been diagnosed with IBS at this time, so I’m trying to identify a solution to my on-going battle with constipation and bloating that occurs every day. I have no pain, just a a constant feeling of being stuffed with air while feeling the urge to go to the restroom but instead immediately getting denied the simple pleasures of having a bowl movement! So please, jot down some ideas and your own experiences. I’m working on doing a low fiber intake diet as well as experimenting with numerous fruits and vegetables that may even cause my constipation.

Got my first Gut Health Test Today, Should I be worried?

I’ve been dealing with constant fatigue, brain fog, depression, extreme joint pain, morning diarrhea, etc.

I was also diagnosed with Hypothyroidism in 2017 and have been taking medication for it on and off over the years, but it’s never really done anything for me and I'm wondering if this could be linked.

It seems like the stool test picked up a positive for Candida along with a few other markers. Is this SIBO? IBS? IBD? Leaky Gut?

I picked up a probiotic, some oil of oregano, caphyric acid, and Butryic Acid. But should I be supplementing with anything else?
