A list of puns related to "Gsm R"
Frequent (like, every single conversation) dropped calls.
No service about a third of the time while standing outside in downtown Dallas and surrounding metro areas.
UNREAL Mobile app crashes *every single time* when tapping on a text message thread, the contacts list, or voicemail. Contacted customer service on Twitter, they said they straight up can't resolve the issue. (Why do I need a shitty app to use my phone? No idea. Not mentioned on their site when you place an order. Blatant false advertising.)
Can't send MMS.
I lasted 4 days with Unreal. Will be trying Republic Wireless or Ting instead. Saving $5-10/mo (vs alternatives) isn't worth my phone not working.
We can basically sum up every problem on /r/Christianity by slapping the word "Evangelicals" over the top of it. The Cathodox users have never been offensive to the GSM community in these parts. I know this because they're cool, and basically a minority where I live, and therefore can do no wrong. But those Evangelicals-- UGH! They ruin everything! If it weren't for them there would be no sexism or homophobia in the church.
Sorry, but that thread trying to explain why the conservative users feel /r/Christianity has a liberal slant was frustratingly selective on the topic. He seriously went out of his way to blame it solely on low-church Protestantism, as if everyone else just loves the gays. Whatever. They're the easy targets-- I get it.
/u/amcink and I were talking today and thought, "why not open up GSM to the reddit crowd?" So, we did!
All you need to do:
Grab a Ting GSM SIM if you don't already have one.
Sign up for exclusive beta access HERE.
Tomorrow around 10:00AM EST, I'll be adding this list of emails to the next group that will be sent GSM activation instructions. If you sign up after 10:00AM EST tomorrow (Feb 18th), you'll get an invitation a day or two later. Keep in mind that if you've already signed up for a beta invite, you may end up getting a second GSM activation email at some point.
If you encounter any issues, please share them in our GSM network beta feedback forum.
Currently, the one activation issue that has been brought to our attention relates to current customers who are porting a number from CDMA to GSM. You may see some incorrect wording around carrier porting, but rest assured your number is safe and sound and the porting process will work correctly (even if the copy seems vague).
Edit: You're welcome everybody! Thanks for being an awesome crowd :D
Edit 2: Emails have been sent! If you added your email to the list after 10AM EST on the 18th, you'll receive activation instructions in a day or two.
Edit 3: Ting GSM is going into open beta today, so no longer do you need an individual invite! Everyone can now activate on our GSM network offering.
So I've read up on GSM etc... but what about GSM-R? It seems like a very similar protocol setup, I'd imagine listening in would be the same mechanisms?
This thread in particular. The youtube video the post links to is also GSM-phobic, and reeks of ableism.
But it's not the post I'm supposed to focus on, right? It's the poop that lies under!
>Oh god, where is the "I'M GAY" edit? [+192] >>Already posted here like 10 times. [+184] >>>Where though? I can't find it!!! >>>>(link to another video mocking GSM folk.) [+285]
Because it just isn't enough to mock minorities in one video, you need two videos to do that properly! ^/s
>They're just making up words now, aren't they? Be who you want, love and fuck who you want (both consenting adults of course), but don't just string nonsensical omnipolygenderqueertransclusterfuck words together and expect people to take you seriously. [+139]
Yeah, words that are made up. As opposed to words naturally occurring in the wild.
Someone provides a refreshing change of topic by not being a shitty human being:
>Well, the main reason these terms exist is so that people can connect with others who've had similar experiences. It's more about building a community/support network than being taken seriously by people who don't identify with them. Kinda of like the same reason a band would call their music, say, "avant-garde chthonic funeral doom metal". It's not about being taken seriously, it's more like a way to allow fans to find bands that play similar music.
But we're reddit, right? We don't let little things like basic human decency come in our way! >The problem is that as everyone keeps branching off and creating new (and more eccentric sounding terms) to describe whatever it is they feel, it begins to detract from the movement as a whole. It's one thing to be a bisexual transwoman, but people begin to have trouble taking taking it seriously when someone comes out labeling themselves as a genderfluid foxkin. [+51]
Just....so much fucking cisplaining. It doesn't stop here though! >Except you get people who get incredibly pissy if you dont get their "gender" right. Im not talking about transgender people, Im talking about the agender pangender femmegender [insert fake bs]-gender kid
... keep reading on reddit β‘Seriously, I'm getting super-bummed-out by all the sadness, especially from the US. Married GSM people of /r/ainbow, how was your wedding? Do anything special? Where'd you go on honeymoon? Anything happy or light-hearted is appreciated!
EDIT: IT WORKS NOW THAT I SWITCHED TO ATT! T-Mobile could not give me IP and Proxy info and said they "did away with that" so I ditched them, and followed the information in the link in the first reply here, and I am sending pics with my SIM900!
I am cross posting this from /r/Arduino in hopes that more eyes on may yield a solution.
Ok, I am at my wits end with this...and I am finally venturing to ask the outside world for help, despite my best efforts to find a solution myself.
I have a SIM900 Shield from SeeedStudio (v1.4) that I have upgraded the firmware in to be MMS capable. Current firmware:
rev: 1137B03SIM900M64_ST_MMS
Provider is T-Mobile Pay as you go sim card - contract states it is MMS capable.
I am using a separate power supply for the SIM900 - 5V 5A supply, with beefy wires, common ground between all parts
Arduino MEGA2560 (currently as my serial buffer - using RealTerm to communicate through the MEGA - mega code is simple serial port mirror)
I have no arduino code to show you, since I am hand-jamming AT Commands
I follow the AT Command MMS example - which are:
AT+CMMSINIT # Initialize the MMS method
AT+CMMSCURL="xx.xx.com" # the MMS center URL
AT+CMMSCID=1 # Set bearer
AT+CMMSPROTO="x.x.x.x",xxxx # MMS Proxy information
AT+SAPBR=3,1,"Contype","GPRS" # How you are sending
AT+SAPBR=3,1,"APN","xxxx" # Set the APN
AT+SAPBR=1,1 # Activate the bearer context
AT+CMMSEDIT=1 # Enter edit mode
AT+CMMSDOWN="PIC",54321,30000 # Download a pic that is 54321 bytes
AT+CMMSRECP="123456789" # Set the recipient
AT+CMMSVIEW # View your message
AT+CMMSSEND # Send the message
And I get all proper responses from my commands - OK's and whatnot. I can load an image successfully. It all seems to go along smoothly...until I reach the send command, it hangs for a minute - and ERROR. I get OK responses when asking if I am connected to GPRS and I know my MMS is initializing as well, otherwise the very first command would have error-ed out.
I am convinced my T-Mobile APN/MMSC Server/PROXY settings are wrong for what I am trying to do. Or, do I need to have internet (DATA) access enabled on the SIM card as well if the MMS/SIM900 combo uses HTTP to send MMS (despite T-Mobile telling me with my current service, MMS will work)? I have tried the following in all sorts of combinations:
APN: fast.t-mobile.com
APN (alternate): epc.tmobile.com
IP:PROXY: 216.155.165.50:8080
MMSC Se
... keep reading on reddit β‘So a couple of weeks ago, after seeing this defcon talk, I bought one of this cheap TV dongle that allows you to receive a really wide bandwidth of radio waves. It's really cool for the price, you can get live ATC, EMT and police radio, live airliner position and a lot of things.
Today somebody posted a link to a tutorial on /r/RTLSDR , showing how to hack your own (normally encrypted) cell phone communication.
I thought your guys might like that.
edit : grammar
Hey guys, I wish to learn more about communications. I don't want to get involved in the math but more high level aspects of communication theory. What is a good book or reference to start?
I am specifically interested in schemes used in wireless handsets (gsm, edge, bluetooth).
Thanks in advance.
Good afternoon Reddit, I'm sure everyone has noticed lots of great Black Friday deals going on today. I'm not totally certain if this price is only valid today, but I found this Straight Talk Galaxy S6 on Walmart.com (link here) which for $249 I think is a steal. Only problem is, I'm on MetroPCS right now and have no plans on switching networks anytime soon ($25 unlimited family plan!). Has anyone had luck buying an unlock code from one of those sketchy seeming sites (example) and being able to switch SIM cards? Sorry if this post is kinda wordy, or I didn't explain myself well, or if this is in the wrong subreddit. Thanks for any advice!! I'm in the US if that matters.
Hello Folks,
I have a galaxy nexus(GSM) running on Atnt. My battery has slowly degraded over the last year and doesnt hold charge as much.
Have you guys tried replacing the battery on your phone ? How has it worked for you ?
PS: I like the size of my phone, so I prefer to replace it with a similar sized battery.
