The funeral director was asking us what we think Mum should wear in her casket.
Mum always loved to wear sarongs (fabric wraps that go around the torso and drape downward a bit like a long skirt would), so my uncle suggested that she wear a sarong in there.
The funeral director looked a bit confused, as did some of our family members, to which my uncle added:
"What's sarong with that?"
I started laughing like an idiot. He was proud of it too. The funeral director was rather shocked. We assured her, and our more proper relatives, that Mum would've absolutely loved the joke (which is very true).
His delivery was perfect. I'll never forget the risk he took. We sometimes recall the moment as a way help cushion the blows of the grieving process.
--Edit-- I appreciate the condolences. I'm doing well and the worst is behind me and my family. But thanks :)
--Edit-- Massive thanks for all the awards and kind words. And the puns! Love 'em.
Forewarning: I wrote a lot and was pretty detailed with my MD, I bolded things to make skimming a little easier.
Section One:
Assets:
Unless we are counting a large lego collection as assets, my assets are all in investments or savings listed below. Currently happy working on paying off my debt before making big decisions on physical assets since I am quite young.
Savings:
HYSA: $2,101.30
Buffer Savings for Checking: $545.24
Checking account balance: $150.20
Debts:
Student Loans: I graduated in May 2020 with $22,000 in debt. A large portion of my college education I was able to get partial scholarships and my parents contributed a small amount as well as I went through my education. This breaks down to
$11,000 @ 4.5% (federal, so 0% til September)
$6,000 @ 5% (paid down currently to $3,893.36)
$5,000 on an ISA (income share agreement) @ 2.13% for 112 months, I canβt stress enough how stupid I feel for taking an ISA, but it helped me through changing majors into a career I love today. I will end up paying about $8,000 or so for this $5,000 loan and I will always be salty about it now that I am more financially wise.
Car Loan: $12,896. I have a 4 year lease on a 2021 mid size SUV. It is super crucial for me to be able to get to work even when the weather is bad. I commute into the middle of nowhere to my office and roads are not well taken care of during the winter. I chose a lease because I hope in 4 years to not have a need for a car like this as Iβd love to move to a city where I wouldnβt need a car or could become a 1 car household.
Retirement Balance: I became eligible for my work related retirement accounts in October 2020 due to having interned at my company previously and having a little bit of seniority from that. So Iβm pretty new to investing, but trying to contribute as much as I can while also paying off my student loans.
HSA Invested: $2,646.17
HSA holding (for doctors appointments coming up): $437.26
401K: $965.70
Roth IRA: $918.54
Credit card debt: 0$, I use my credit card to pay routine expenses and to get cash back on big purchases. I was in CC debt up until August of last year of <$3,000 due to moving out of college when the pandemic first began and moving expenses for when my job began. Luckily, I moved to my SOβs hometown so from March to May we lived with his parents and brothers while we finished school online so I could have accrued a lot

That afternoon, the downtown traffic splashed through rain puddles on the street, spritzing me as I rushed toward the psychic studio on Main Street and Bloom. The psychicβs shop blazed on the corner in neon glory, illuminating the street with incompatible shades of red.
Bells chimed as I entered. Inside, red-sequin disco lights, the size of pumpkins, swung from the chipped ceiling, emitting a pinkish glow into the closet-sized space. To the right, a burgundy velvet curtain separated the waiting area from the psychicβs chambers, clashing with the faded red shag carpet that looked like it had been stripped from the floors of a condemned motel circa 1970.
Oh god, I thought. Am I really doing this?
A small voice interrupted my reverie.
βMay I help you, sir,β he said, his voice thick with an accent I couldnβt trace.
I smiled, buttoning my umbrella shut. I dried my hands on my coat and nodded.
βYeah,β I said, βI want to make an appointment withββ I pulled out my phone, then scrolled down to the contact that Josh had sent me when he insisted that I come here.
βAh, here it isβEsmerelda,β I said, feeling awkward.
I scanned the room for familiar faces, hoping not to find any, but I was the only customer. I had never been to a psychic. I felt ridiculous. But Josh said I had to see this psychic because she wasnβt βjust any psychic.β
The man nodded. βGood, good,β he said. A broad, eager smile spread across his face, revealing a missing front tooth.
Plus, I admit, after hearing Joshβs story, I was curious about this place. And then, of course, today was the anniversary ofβ
βEsmerelda is veeeery good,β the man said, interrupting my thought.
He stood about as tall as my chest, barely tall enough to see over the cash register. His head bobbed around as he spoke.
I nodded, but I had to laugh at his enthusiasm. βYeah, thatβs what my buddy said.β
The man glanced at the clock. βEsmerelda can see you in 20 minutes.β
I shrugged. βSure, why not?β
βGood, good,β he smiled.
After I paid, he gestured toward the empty burgundy chairs in the waiting area. βPlease, have a seat.β
As I searched the crowdless room, I couldnβt help but wonder, If this lady is such a master, why doesnβt she have more customers? Youβd think sheβd have a longer waitlist.

After what seemed like an eternity, the burgundy curtain parted, and a short, portly woman in her mid-to-late 50s appeared. She wore a long burgundy gown, and her long gray hair was swept into a messy chig

True story; it even happened last night. My 5-year-old son walks up behind me and out of the blue says, "hey."
I turn to him and say, "yeah, kiddo? What's up?"
He responds, "it's dead grass."
I'm really confused and trying to figure out what's wrong and what he wants from me. "What? There's dead grass? What's wrong with that?"
.
.
.
He says, totally straight-faced, "hay is dead grass," and runs off.
You officially hit rock bottom
I got offered a job at irvine and I'm looking to moving there, I don't nessecarily have to live IN irvine, somewhere close like Santa Ana or Fullerton is fine even. Mostly like looking for a studio/1 bedroom.
I'm in my mid twenties so somewhere more lively would be a plus.
Budget is 2k
I'm currently eyeing at Broadstone Arden, Union Bay and GreenHouse apartments, had mixed reviews in all 3 but amenities look good. Any suggestions or ideas?
Thanks!
No it doesn't.
Now itβs syncing.
I will find you. You have my Word.
She said how do you know he was headed to work?
...sails are going through the roof.
Made me smile
Mods said I'm a cereal reposter...
And then you will all be sorry.
He replied, "Well, stop going to those places then!"
βthank you for your cervix.β
