A list of puns related to "Government Incentives For Plug In Electric Vehicles"
We all know that climate change is a serious threat, and reducing our fossil fuel usage is a critical step in combating the threat. One way to make a significant impact in our fossil fuel usage is to transition as many people as possible to mass transit and/or electric vehicles. The problem with mass transit is that not everyone is willing to give up their cars, and in many places mass transit just isn't a viable option. The second problem is that people just don't trust electric vehicles yet, and the charging infrastructure and technology just isn't anywhere close to being as convenient as a gas station.
I think that it would be easier to convince people to transition to plug-in hybrids (PHEV) to reduce their fuel use. For the first 50 miles or so, a PHEV like the Chevy Volt uses the same amount of gas as a battery-electric vehicle (BEV) like a Tesla or Leaf - none. After that 50 miles, it drives like a Prius, with all the benefits that comes with it. Since the average American commute is only 16 miles, a PHEV like the Volt would be almost as beneficial to the environment as a Bolt, but it would be an easier sell because there's no range-anxiety; someone can just pick up and drive wherever they want without any more planning than they'd need with a traditional internal-combustion engine (ICE) vehicle. A 95% reduction in fossil fuel use would be better than the 0% you get from someone hanging onto their ICE vehicle just to keep the flexibility they're used to.
And note, I know people that don't have reliable access to charging won't get as much benefit, and I'm not in any way advocating that we don't pursue other solutions at the same time. I'm just saying that pushing PHEV's could get us a lot farther and faster than trying to push the adoption of full BEV vehicles.
TL; DR: PHEV's offer nearly the same benefit as a BEV while preserving the flexibility and infrastructure access of an ICE, and thus would be a much easier sell to the public that might not be ready for an all-electric future.
My name is Coltin Rowbotham and I am currently conducting research over how incentives for owning electric cars can impact the carbon emissions in the US. I am in 11th grade and enrolled in the AP Capstone Program through College Board. I am not affiliated with any companies or agencies. All findings are kept private and no personal information is collected. All findings will be on the AP Capstone website through collegeboard.org around mid-July as well as the link to survey results posted on this thread. This survey should only take 1-2 minutes to complete and if you like it please share with anyone you think would be interested. https://forms.gle/PtUR5bRhHCrmefyf8
I'm looking for an answer to an EV question I can't seem to find online. Any help would be appreciated! Have started a businesses recently, so looking for the best option if I purchase an EV this year.
As of right now, there's three incentives a B.C. resident can receive towards the purchase of an EV: federal (5K), provincial (5K) and Scrap-It (up to 6K).
There's also a tax credit available for businesses to write off 100% of the car.
Does anyone know if a business can take advantage of all of the above, or is the former for individuals purchasing cars only, while the latter is the only incentive for businesses?
