I am a 21 year old female. I am originally from England but moved to Goulburn Australia just over 2 years ago after my mum met my stepdad who was working in England at the time a few years ago and when he had to return to Australia she decided to go with him. I am really close with my mum and didn't want to be on the other side of the world as her so I agreed to go as well. I didn't have many friends in England so a fresh start in a new country seemed like a good idea.
I reslly liked my stepdad at first he seems kind and caring towards my mum but the longer we lived with him the more his true colours showed. He is addicted to drugs like most people seem to be In Goulburn and when he wants to get high but can't for whatever reason like he can't afford it he loses it and starts throwing things around the house not caring if it could hit me or my mum. I have begged and pleaded with her many times to ditch him and move back home to England or somewhere else in Australia but she said with only her low paying job we can't afford it (I used to have a job but was made redundant a few months ago)
2 weeks ago was the first time my stepdad was violent towards my mum in a gorrifying incident that left her in a black eye. I do not want to talk about the incident itself or the aftermath and why the police weren't called. That is a different matter that I do not wish to discuss
I am here to ask anyone who has loved in Goulburn Australia, especially the Crestwood area why everyone seems okay with such obvious abuse. As a few days later after this incident occurred all 3 of us (i hated having to even be around him but had little choice) were shopping in town and many people who were going past us stopped when they saw my mums black eye. I could not believe the comments they majority of people gave. Which were a lot of them. Some examples are 'oh I see someone had to be put in their place' 'did your man have to discipline you?' 'If you didn't want to get hurt you shouldn't have misbehaved' so many comments like thst from women as well I could not believe what I was hearing. They all seemed to figure out my atepdad did it to her but instead of what I think would be the natural reaction to show concern for her. Ask if she's okay and mabye even call the police but know they blame her saying thst she deserved it and making it out to be a normal thing that is acceptable to happen
In England anyone who did this would be regarded as scum and im sure in most places in Australi
