A list of puns related to "Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling"
I'm noticing that a high percentage of the new Netflix GLOW series fans, DO NOT realize this was an actual show in the mid and late 80's. It seems to me that if you are enjoying this series you may enjoy learning about, talking to and following one or more of the original ladies of GLOW! I'd love to find out, so please comment and let's start a conversation. Thanks.
Are you watching? What did you think?
Personally, as a fan of the first half of Weeds and an OINTB fan, I felt like this was Kohan's weakest endeavor. If it didn't have the wrestling hook, I probably wouldn't have watched it as quickly. I didn't hate it by any means but I was hoping for a bit more focus on wrestling itself and also less Ruth and Debbie, and more about some of the other women, like Sheila, Carmen, and TammΓ©.
Also, I loved Brodus Clay's role. Carlito too, but mostly Brodus.
Wow! This was a solid documentary. I'm no wrestling historian, but I was absolutely floored that I knew nothing about this promotion beforehand, aside from hearing the hype about the new Netflix documentary coming out in June.
For those who don't know, there was a televised all-female promotion that existed from around 1986 to 1990. The show was kind of campy in that it featured this colorful cast of characters like most wrestling shows did at the time. Names like Little Egypt, Matilda the Hun, Big Bad Mama, Babe the Farmer's Daughter, and Mountain Fiji were all stars of GLOW.
The documentary delves into some of the behind the scenes drama that came with running and wrestling in a promotion like that, especially in the 80s. Like any good documentary, what I personally found interesting was how much footage they had to support what the ladies were referencing. It really made me connect with what they were saying. For the time, it certainly felt like this was a revolutionary concept.
I would highly recommend you all check out the doc on Netflix in anticipation of the series that comes out in June. The series will be produced by the same folks who made Orange is the New Black, so definitely something to look forward to.
