A list of puns related to "Good Kpop"
In my opinion, 2021 just wasn't a great year musically. Barely any songs were as impactful and it feels with 4th gen coming in full prominence the focus has largely shifted to performance and riding the current trends. I listen to snippets of most songs that get released of mid to top tier artists, but somehow this year just wasnt it for me.
To be honest the only songs that left any impact on me this year were - Shinee - Don't call me
Loona - Paint the town
Nct U - Universe
Nct dream - hello future
Woodz - feel like
Enhyphen - drunken dazed
Weekly - after school
Aespa - next level
Rose - on the ground (quite generic song but I really like her voice here)
Songs like ITZY's MITM, Aespa's Next Level and Savage, NCT's Hot Sauce and more have gained a lot of popularity that people seem to think that all subsequent music released has to be weird or have something strange about it in order for it to be good. It's gotten to the point where fans seem to think that songs like Red Velvet's Queendom, Enhypen's Tamed-Dashed, and IVE's Eleven are boring because they're not weird. Songs don't have to be weird or unique in order to be good.
Not to mention, whenever one of the weird, now-super-popular songs from a big group is released, the general reaction is that it's so weird and that it sucks. People only like the song after they've listened to it 50 times and have convinced themselves that they like it. Meanwhile Queendom, Tamed-Dashed, Eleven, and more weren't badly received at all when they were released, and people end up saying it's boring and that they didn't take risks. Groups shouldn't have to take risks or make their song strange in order for it to he good.
This is just a very short rant about samples. And about kpop fans being very loud and aggressive over things that make them look silly.
In my limited knowledge I heard a sidebyside comparison of these two songs(that was being brought up to mudsling of course) and thought they both sounded familiar and did like two seconds of research.
Stray Kidsβ song 0325 and Ateezβs song Good Lil Boy have the same sample. Itβs the amen break and it is quite literally one of the most frequently sampled drum breaks in music history.
Stray Kids did not come up with this drum break. Ateez did not come up with this drum break. Ateez did not steal this drum break from Stray Kids. Stray Kids did not steal this drum break from The Winstons. Pls.
The two songs sound nothing alike aside from β¦ the SAMPLE. Because itβs a sample.
Thatβs all. Like every idol group out there uses samples and sometimes we end up with groups whoβve used the same ones. Stray Kids Road Not Taken and Loonaβs Uncover share a sample. Ateezβs DLBW and Pentagonβs Genius share a sample. Relax. In fact almost everyone can search (group name) sample and find their favorite group has a sample in common with another group or with a western artist. Itβs fascinating even.
No annoying fanwarry he did it she did it stuff in the replies. I just wanted to be exasperated for a moment. People are silly.
I used to be a hardcore kpop fan but now i mostly just listen to it when I run because most songs fit the my pace/tempo.
When aespa debuted I wasnt a fan, but after I listened to their songs while running, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked them LOL. Like I will never get the lyrics, but I know key parts to look forward to, which helps me pass the time running.
Stuff in my playlist so far (not conclusive)
That being said, on the lookout for new music bc my playlist is only 2 hrs long, and I run 5x week so some songs are feeling a bit old already :/
TIA!!!
I wanna teach myself how to dance and I think it'd be cool to learn one of the dance routines from a Kpop song! Do y'all have any suggestions for good dance routines that wouldn't be too difficult? One from a girl group would be best.
I'm relatively new to Kpop and looking to get in the the genre. What are good people/groups to start with?
The majority of GG songs are written by 40+ year old men roleplaying as girls as young as 14. Any group that promotes βgirl powerβ βindividualityβ or the whole image of βIβm so cool and independent and a strong woman!!!β but doesnβt contribute to songwriting, concept creation, or the groupβs message are in lamest terms posers. Mamamoo/EXID/G-idle are the only groups that can be excused because of their memberβs involvement in their group.
However, I donβt think itβs necessary for an idol to be able to do all those things to be an idol; some people are talented singers but canβt write music. The problem lies in the fans giving their favs unauthentic labels and giving them credit when they havenβt earned it. Many idols, male or female, are quite literal puppets because thatβs whatβs easiest for the industry to control. I donβt think itβs a problem if youβre aware of the limits of your favs but itβs actually embarrassing seeing people fight for these girlsβ as strong female role models, when their image is entirely fabricated.
Edit: Lots of focus pointed towards whether I care to label these women as feminists or not. Being labeled a feminist in Korea is incredibly demonized and Iβm sure many GGβs actively avoid being too loud about being strong women because of the connotations in their society. My point was about FANS who label them as feminists because of their music, lyrics, message, etc, when all theyβre doing is promoting an image of girl-power and feminism created by (most likely sexist, controlling) men. Allowing men to create the image that young girls use as their role models seems pretty patriarchal to meπ€·πΎββοΈ. In retrospect, I shouldβve made the title pertinent to fans using their music as feminist representation, but I canβt change it now so apologies.
Edit: Iβm not sure where I said βgirl-crush is fake feminismβ like many are implying. I never mentioned concepts, in fact StayC is a group with many empowering/comforting lyrics and are definitely not girl-crush. But even StayCβs empowering and confident lyrics are written by grown men.
I know people love to laugh at cringy English lyrics in kpop (myself included!) but do you know any songs that use English in a clever, natural way,
An example is the pre-chorus in Pretty Savage flows really well and RosΓ© effortless swearing is really satisfying!
Also RMs English part in Cypher Pt. 2 uses rhyme and rhythm really well
Edit: to clarify, I'm not necessarily referring to English versions of Korean songs but songs that incorporate English in a natural way
hi there! for reference, i'm a complete beginner. i've managed to learn the chorus of stayc's stereotype and have followed along with crayon pop's bar bar bar, but i really want to get better! i'd like to learn a boy group dance, but if it's for a girl group, i definitely prefer cutesy songs! my favorite groups are cravity, onf, the boyz, verivery, golden child, and ab6ix, but i'm open to pretty much anything! it'd be extra extra helpful if it came with a full song tutorial, but if not, i can figure it out! thank you all so much!
These are my current vibes on Spotify
Need some more too add, looking for a new song :)
a prime example of a consistently good styling is chungha, she looks awesome in every stage. her stylist definitely is one of the best in kpop.
a negative example is ncts styling, especially in their early days, tho they still have some questionable styling every now and then it has gotten better.
But considering how much money those big companies have, the styling is very underwhelming most of the time.
(please remember that this isn't a shoot against the idol but about the clothes they get during live stages)
I just had this thought a while ago and I wanted to see if anyone thinks the same or disagrees
I'm talking about basically all reactions but more specifically the "expert" ones. I feel like all they do is point things out and add no further commentary. Like, if it's a vocal expert, "oh wow, that's a high note right there," and it's like, nothing else. Or a music expert will be like, "you can hear the percussion here and the horns coming in for the chorus." And, idk, what's the point of them narrating the content from their "expert" POV? I guess if you wanna learn the details, it might be helpful to watch.
I hardly ever watch reactions anymore so maybe the problem is just that I'm not the target audience anymore? Or are most reaction videos just description videos?
I've been a heavy multi stan kpop fan since 2016. And I've really embraced the genre as norm. However I've kinda been listening to the same music over and over again. Don't get me wrong I love BTS, EXO, Mamamoo, NCT, Sunmi and several other kpop artists now for years. But I guess the reason I've not been paying as much attention is because of I've been really busy with school. I'm open to trying out new artists, although, I'm not really a fan of the heavy EDM sound that most groups like aespa and Ateez are known for. I mostly prefer RnB, pop and easy listening if I'm referring to kpop.
It'll be so cool to hear some great new suggestions:)
I
I watched BTS Dope and I noticed it was pretty much in 'one shot', though there were some edits. I know EXO Growl has one too. Are there any other kpop MV's that make use of one shot or long tracking shots that look good?
Okay so obviously portmanteaus have existed way before kpop but it's sooo heavily used in kpop and they're always so clever! And it's like WOW YOUR BRAIN
Idk I hope this isn't a low-effort post I just really wanna appreciate people's naming skills ok!!!
u/irishnorirish calling iKON BOBBY's baby (or baby announcement) BOBABY... it's my favorite thing. I fear I won't be able to think of anything else
u/raynbooze christening the (nonexistent) BTS j-hope and SVT HOSHI subunit as 2HOE π
I'm also very impressed by how well BTSVTXT works for moarmycarats (or idk what their multi name is)!
Man idk fans are so clever I know this is such a small thing but it brightens up my day whenever I come across a new nickname
I know this question is kind of tired, but I was looking for specifically groups or albums, and not just singles as I'm way more of a discography binger and album person.
I'm also very new to kpop I have only heard the album by BTS with Fake Love on it (sorry I forgot the name) and did really enjoy it, and also The Album by Blackpink which was banger. I really like Blackpink mostly the hype stuff (maybe because it itches that rap/hip-hopish production I grew up with scratch)
Ik they're ginormous groups but I was wondering off the small amount I've listened to if someone may know some great groups to get listening to that fun hype vibe.
I'm very open to anything so whether it's an underground group or something huge I'm down to try it out.
Thanks everyone stay safe
Edit: I went to sleep and saw so many responses thank you so much! I didn't expect so many I appreciate it so much
thanks i like black pink and bts also if that might help u i also like quite fast paced songs not slow ones thanks π
The title.
I'm a little sick and tired of 'This is not a good representation of KPOP to non-fans'. Like, THEN WHAT IS?
Is it D4?
Is it Dynamite?
Is it Bad Boy?
None of these, I REPEAT, NONE OF THESE are good representations of Kpop.
Why? because these only represent the Group not the ENTRIETY of KPOP. like explain how that works?
There is no Representation of KPOP, only representations of the group. Please rephrase. Thank you.
I'm not even trying to be unbiased here, please watch this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qJE3PvPhtTo
I donβt know why i feel the need to say this, maybe because:
I feel like people donβt acknowledge him when he is really good at everything he does;
the term βall-rounderβ is overused, because most so-called βall-rounderβ idols are just having decent skills;
i really wanna see more multi-talented idols (not in the way they can do this or that, they have to ACE) so recommend me some, especially male idols.
Well, as the title goes, I really think DK is a rare gem in Kpop, especially in the recent years. From EXO onwards, I havenβt seen many outstanding male idols when it comes to skills.
Well regarding DK:
And seeing his musical snippets... how he perfectly embodies a young King Arthur and brings life to the character in such an unique way, standing out from other Arthurs... WOW.. tears in my eyes for real.. he's a singer he's an actor he's a star!
Dancing: SEVENTEEN has no weak dancerπ well being able to champion SEVENTEENβs difficult choreography is a task on its own, but even among the group he is certainly good. He was originally a Acrobatic Dance student in high school! He is such a good performer too....
Variety show: needless to say if you have watched SVTβs shows. Like he is actually attentive, smart and knows how to make a joke, even at the expense of his own image, even at some point people forgets that he is not only the clown of the group, he is also the main vocal lol he is among the funniest idols i have seen too!!
Very pretty w good physique. Might be the visual in other groups even.
Not to mention he's sooooo nice. Always makes an effort to communicate well with fans in a kind-hearted manner. Itβs always fun to see an idol with authenticity lol generally someone who is good with fanservices (idk if that is a category). Joking aside he can even rap <3
TLDR; it's easy to pale in comparison with DOKYEOM
I was looking for a Stray Kids GO to join, but most of the GOMs only accept friends and family payments. why is that?
I understand if they're selling photocards with stamped shipping why they would want buyers to pay through friends and family due to no tracking number, but why for tracked items like albums?
Pretty much this. Being an idol isn't about being a good singer (an idol could be, and often is, a below average singer), a few noticeable exceptions just confirm this general tendency. Most idols have a worse technique that the average music student in music schools to be honest. But that doesn't mean they are bad idols, because this isn't a requested characteristic with the exception of one or two idols per group (which anyways, even if they are the best in the group, aren't necessarily good).
I thought this was a shared opinion but I realized that a lot of people think that a lot of idols genuinely are good singers and the bad ones are something to heavily penalized so I think this is unpopular.
I also think that for this exact reason it doesn't make sense to want an "ace group" (you know, the trend of looking for the filler members and wanting them out of the group) because kpop never was about this, almost nobody is actually interested in a group like this and it wouldn't last.
EDIT: since many people are talking about "the important thing should be the music" (which is something I personally agree with, even if not necessarily valid for everyone): being a good vocalist doesn't equal having a good discography, and being a "not good" vocalist doesn't equal having a bad one. Loona is one of my favorite groups and (without taking into account every other aspects) their discography is one of my favorite ones, and their XX album is highly praised. But just a couple of them are considered good vocalists (and still on the average side) considering singers' standards and not idols' standards. So what is the point in saying this? You 100% can have a good discography without being a good vocalist, there is no Wendy or Taeyeon in Loona and the whole group certainly isn't like Mamamoo for example. Then you can add various things for various groups like charisma, good choreography, good dance level, good interactions and fanservice (yes, kpop is heavily based on this, even if we think we are "too old" to believe in these things), the fact that the backtrack on chorus is basically a standard, and you can still have a good idol group. Let's add that a lot of people can't actually tell apart the ability (of course we can all identify idols on the two opposite extremes, but not so much in the middle) and you have my opinion.
the thing is =
girl groups >>> boy groups
i never liked it cuz i thought there was only bts
I recently just noticed that kpop actually increase my personality in a good way. The only downside is spending money. I used to be very insecure couple of years back before I was a kpop stan. With Jin being my ult bias he literally gave me full on self-confidence and I started joking alot because of him. I also turned more brave (as now I want to literally ride a motorcycle when I was more scared of riding a car) by Jungkookβs thrillness of adventure. My family and friends say that I changed alot for the better within 3-4 years.
Bi
Ok. It's long.
Another SEA post but I've been thinking about writing it for a while. It's just more to give people a better view of how far Kpop actually went back in SEA region since there seem to be a lot of misconceptions going around. I'm not calling myself a Kpop guru, it's just I have seen it all pre DBSK split up and everything.
First and foremost though, my knowledge is mainly with Thailand. SEA as a region even though are close culturally, there is a big language barrier that if one thing is viral or big in one country, it wouldn't mean it would be big in another. Each country has her own communities to discuss things. You can see it the same way as how the 90's Anime was big in France but not as much in Germany.
The year was 2008. I was chilling out at suburb shopping mall looking for my lunch option and I heard a lot of screaming and chatty girls waiting for what look like a mini concert (there was a small stage etc). So I asked one of the girls who was coming and her replied Super Junior. It was part of their brand ambassador campaign for Yamaha. I just nodded and moved along. Just another day at a suburb mall (think of it as Kansas instead of NYC). This was pre Sorry Sorry, before they were big in Korea, they were huge with Thai teenagers. Every single Kpop groups wanted to make a break in SEA like Super Junior. Ever since Rain became so famous in the region (Full House), every Kpop groups set their eyes on SEA (along side Japan). The money that supported SM, YG, JYP to build their now big empires is partly from endorsement and sales in the SEA. S. Korea as a country only have 60 millions people. Their buying power are limited. How to get more, ofc, to expand abroad and doesn't matter how tiny the currency value is. We were targeted you could say it like that. We are easily pleased and very opened to outside entertainment.
During Gen 2- early Gen 3, you would see Kpop groups almost weekly on our famous local TV morning news (equivalent to say Good Morning America). They would be on a variety show, a singing survival show, etc. This was BTS on a free concert that showed weekly on our free TV (meaning you didn't get pay to be here, you had to ask the promotor for a slot). We were the money that all Kpop groups

So, this year has been so full of releases that I'm starting to get overwhelmed. There's been a lot of the same from groups visually, a lot of similar sounds as per the trends of the year and mostly just TOO MANY RELEASES (but that's another rant). My point though, is that out of everything that's released this year, some of the comebacks that stick out to me the most are Hyuna and HyuDawn.
They really stand out (personally, I think in a good way), with their circus meets streetwear meets edwardian meets fairyland aesthetic. It's not something I've ever seen to this extent in KPop before, and I think whoever came up with that style for them really needs a raise because it's not only unique but MEMORABLE. I could tell you three different looks they each wore in Ping Pong before I could tell you what the best outfits of almost any other group were from this year.
It's also a perfect compliment to the musical direction PNATION is taking them in. I know that there are people who think it's too much, especially combined together, but the over the top acid trip that their music and styling creates is one of the biggest pulls to the music in my opinion. HyunA and Dawn both have very unique voices and styles generally and I think the music uses that so well. Plus the emptier choruses work for them because they're both great dancers and are actually given choreography that matches their abilities. I love the music they've release this year.
I just really admire their dedication to such a bizarre image and I think out of every act in KPop they're probably the only ones who could pull off their sound and style so well. Ping Pong was especially good. Let me know what you think!
Being So Bad It's Good. At itβs most basic definition it means something thatβs so bad it becomes so funny that wraps around to being good. Think the Room or Plan 9 from Outer Space.
To me being So Bad It's Good means that it's completely sincere (so no intentional comedies, I find that trying to be So Bad It's Good makes your work bad in a not funny way), a fanbase that is mocking but affectionate (a SBIG work shouldn't make anyone mad at it imo) and the failure is so big and messy that it's kind of admirable in an βAt Least You Triedβ way. It's also has to be genuinely hilarious but that's a given.
I have some kpop examples. Dongkizβs Crazy Night is very perplexing to me, I think it's the worst song I genuinely like and the mv is what? Cravityβs My Turnβs vroom vroom vroom vroom skrrt chorus is the only reason I vaguely started stanning Cravity even though I don't like the generic dark bg trappings of the rest of the song. And this is not a song but everyone needs to watch the trailer to the lost(ish) [H.O.T movie] (https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pAXbkyBwmEk&feature=emb_title) at least once.
So any of your suggestions?
I really like music that makes me scared or uncomfortable. And I feel like no one shares that sentiment.
Some examples in kpop:
Lately I've been getting into mashups more and more. I just think they're really neat and creative and often make me see a song I like in a totally different way. Here's a great one that I really enjoy.
With that in mind, are there any good ones featuring kpop songs? Either where one kpop song is mashed up with another, or even with a western song of some sort?
please help me, i need kpop songs that calm me down and can sleep while listening. i like male voices and boy groups better, but not a problem if it's female/girl group
My picks are the iconic Mister by Kara and I donβt know what to do by Blackpink.
I was reading Werseve Magazine interviews and what struck me was how good they are with words. I know I shouldn't be surprised because most of them write and compose songs, but it always amazes me.
And, their dreams. 8 years, it's been 8 years, and I couldn't be more proud of how ambitious they still are and how they want themselves to grow more. How they still want to learn. It will always amuse me and make me happy that they know what they want and will work hard to achieve it.
So I was trying to find some Canadian based kpop album stores to order some kpop albums, then I found this website:
https://kpopmusicstorekorea.com.
They recently opened an online store during the pandemic and its free shipping for orders over $45! They also let you choose which version you want! Not a lot of online kpop stores allow you to do that, most importantly for Canadian kpop fans since they ship in Canada, no customs fees (however if you are unsure if they ship to your region please read their website details)! They also do pre-orders from some albums, some featured artists are: BTS, Stray Kids, NCT, Red Velvet, TXT, Mamamooβ¦ etc. However I must say, they donβt have every single album for every artist but they do have a variety to choose from ;)
They are based in Montreal, Quebec. At first I was quite skeptical about their store as there were no reviews online except onsite reviews, I didnβt know if the store was legit or not. I saw one video on YouTube I will link them here:
https://youtu.be/vXeKLeRXc_k
Seeing this video I decided to order from them.
I ordered two albums, BTS: LY - Tear Version O and BTS: Dark & Wild. They told me both albums were not in stock and would ship a week later, however they shipped the albums as soon as they had stock! Only took 4 days for the albums to come; Time line:
Sept 7: placed order Sept 9: Order Shipped Sept 10: Delivered
Also, depending on the album they will have a status of when the albums are to be restocked or if they are readily available or orders based on demand. Be sure to read it, its under the βadd to cart optionβ when youβre viewing the albums.
It came well packaged, triple bubble wrap one on top, bottom and around the albums itself, they also put in the effort to place purple and black tissue paper around the bubble wrapped albums!
Their website is very organized too, all the information and pictures you need are posted. Be sure to create an account to keep track of your orders!
Definitely will order from them again, if you are looking for a Canadian based online kpop store, please check them out!
Here's mine: MIC drop BTS [Steve Aoki remix]
Iβm taking a break from kpop and it feels so refreshing! Iβve been focusing on watching basketball related things, enjoying other types of music, watching different types of shows on Netflix ( Outer Banks and Racket Boys for life) and just chilling. It feels so good to just get away from kpop for awhile because before I was so consumed in kpop, felt like I was falling through a hole and now I feel like Iβm above that hole.
Anyways earlier I decided to check out releases that I missed or that just came out and all I got to say is that every song Iistened to was a bop! The trailer Reason by MCND was so great. Second by Hyo ft BIBI and Summer or Summer by Hyolyn, Dasom give me all the feels, I love both songs. Holiday Party and Check It Out by Weeeky are so awesome, love how they always put out fun songs! Popping by ONF was pretty cool, ngl I was singing along to the chorus and Paint Me Naked by Ten was an artistic masterpiece. I had to relisten to Ra Pam Pam by Golden Child because it was so so good. I also checked out I Donβt Love You by Gray which was really good too, very deep song.
But my favourite release got to be Thrill Ride by The Boyz. Ngl at first I wasnβt sure I was going to like it after seeing the MV teaser but after watching the whole music video today and then watching the special clip performance on 1theK Originals channel, I am completely in love with Thrill Ride. The song is so addicting, the beat goes hard and dance is so dope! I checked out the album twice on Spotify and relistened to Thrill Ride about 4 times. Thrill Ride is golden and the album is amazing, definitely one of my favourite albums to come out this year. I loved how the album went from so hyped to slowing down the hype like from hyped songs to slower songs, every song was a vibe, donβt have a favourite bside yet. Gonna have this album on repeat for awhile!
Iβm also excited for NCT related stuff. I especially canβt wait for Maniac by NCT U (Doyoung and Haechan) and Make A Wish Orchestra version. Iβm excited for NCT 127βs comeback in September, feels like forever since they came back, excited to hear some new music. And whatever else NCT has planned. I also want to hear new music from other groups too like BLACKPINK, BTS, iKON, Ateez, and other groups, whenever that is. I canβt wait for Red Velvet, Stray Kids and TXT comebacks, I bet all are going to be amazing. I will definitely be on the lookout for everything I mentioned.
But yeah Iβm definitely not trying to fall back
