[OC] I rebuilt the Seattle Supersonics - The Expansion Extravaganza

There have been rumors of a possible expansion, so let’s imagine it does happen, but the NBA decides to only add one new team to the league (sorry Vegas), bringing back the beloved Seattle Supersonics. The Sonics are back babbyyyyyyyy!

Now the Sonics need to build their team from ground up, starting with the expansion draft, and following it with signing players in the off-season.

Here are some simplified terms of the expansion draft:

  1. All 30 NBA teams will have the right to protect 8 players on their roster. Anyone on the current roster is protectable, including restricted free agents. If a restricted free agent is left unprotected by his former team, he is available for selection by the Supersonics, who would then hold his Bird Rights for the up-coming off-season. Teams will typically have 4-7 players unprotected. Unrestricted free agents can neither be protected from nor selected in the expansion draft -- they are essentially ignored.
Players who are likely to be left unprotected by their former teams include aging, overpaid veterans, unproven bench players, players who do not fit in financially with their team, or who disrupt team chemistry.
  2. The Sonics may only select 1 player per team.
  3. The Sonics must work within 2/3 of the normal rules of the NBA salary cap, so there will be salary-related restrictions which apply to the team's selections. The team’s salary cap for the 2022-2023 season will only be 2/3 of the league cap (112.414 million), meaning 74.93 million. The minimum team salary is also 2/3 of the leagues' minimum team salary (101.173 million), meaning 67.449 million.
The expansion draft occurs after the conclusion of the 2022 NBA Finals, but prior to the 2022 NBA Draft. The Sonics do not participate in the lottery, but automatically get the 5th and the 35th pick of the draft.
  4. There are no restrictions on player positions during the draft.
  5. The Sonics must select at least 14 players.
  6. Here is a list of the players that each NBA team are, in my opinion, likely to protect, and a list of those who may be left unprotected (not all players are listed, but most of them, and all that have any chance of being drafted by an expansion team):

Atlanta Hawks:

Protected:

  1. Trae Young
  2. John Collins
  3. Clint Capela
  4. Kevin Huerter
  5. De’Andre Hunter
  6. Onyeka Okongwu
  7. Bogdan Bogdanovic
  8. Cam Reddish

Unprotected (Salary this year, Years left on the contract)

  1. Jalen Johnson (2.6 million, 3 years)

Sci-fi: What did you read in 2021 + your rating?

Hi,

I'm running a bit dry now, actively searching for new series & novels to read in 2022, hence this post to see what you guys have been reading and how you liked it!

So, Scifi readers, what have you read last year, and how would you rate the books?

Here is my 2021 list:

10/10 Perfect scores, must read:

The Bobiverse Series by Dennis E Taylor (4 books)

Bob, a nerdy engineer, dies in modern days, has his head frozen, and wakes up as just a consciousness, reanimated a few hundred years in the future to pilot a Von Neumann probe.
4 books full of adventure, conflicts, R&D & tech that'll make you dream.
Propulsion tech: Reaction mass (at first), more advanced later in the books (spoiler if more details)

Start here: I am legion (I am Bob)
Topics: Trans-humanism, first-contacts (multiple), space exploration, engineering/problem solving, epic adventure

Hail May by Andy Weir (single book)

I feel like this might be the best book I've ever read. The story, the style, the characters, the creativity... It's just flawless from start to finish.
The energy of our local stars, including our sun, is fading fast. Something mysterious is absorbing a lot of that energy before it can get to earth, leading to a grim future. Only one star doesn't seem affected in the neighbourhood, and that's where a crew is headed to understand why and hopefully find a fix.
Multiple twists, first-contact, engineering issues to solve, and one of the most creative plot I've seen in any scifi book.
Propulsion tech: IR engine (realistic - spoiler if more details)

Topics: Scientific discovery, first-contact, engineering/problem solving, saving earth

The Expanse Series by James S.A. Corey (9 books, last one released in 2021)

I've only read the last book, Leviathan Falls, in 2021, having read the others years ago as they came out, but I have to recommend the whole series obviously. Every book is amazing and this last one was just the cherry on top.
Set in the near future, a non-stop political struggle between the UN (earth/moon), Mars & the Belt. First contact and then the gates change everything. I don't want to give any spoilers so I'll stop the description there. You're most likely already familiar with it anyway.
Realistic physics & realistic politics are the 2 main reasons to read it, besides the incredible story.
Propulsion tech: Fusion, reaction mass, alien gates

Start here: *Levia

Big Finish Releases 2022 (and Beyond!)

#The First Doctor Adventures

The First Doctor 2022 Title TBA ?? ??

Whilst we don't know the details, we know Lauren Cornelius has been recording more First Doctor Adventures. Assumably the AAISAT crew have been as well, and potentially Carole Ann Ford. And one assumes Peter Purves. Sadly, I doubt William Russell has, Jean Marsh even less so. Maureen O'Brien has possibly done recording, but it's difficult to say as she's someone who can't really travel far, and obviously pandemics makes things worse.

#The Second Doctor Adventures

TITLE WRITERS INDIVIDUAL STORIES (If Applicable)
1. Beyond the War Games Nicholas Briggs; Mark Wright; ?? ??
14. The Companion Chronicles: The Second Doctor Vol. 3 George Mann; ?? ??

After being delayed many times, with still no confirmed release date, the fact that remote recording has occurred seems that whatever issues that plagued the release have potentially been solved, and we may get news soon. Otherwise we do know there's a George Mann penned Dalek story, read by Frazer Hines, that at this point logically couldn't be anything but a Companion Chronicle.

There are 10 Major Anime Yu-Gi-Oh Tournaments (that's relevant any). Let's rank them in my humble opinion.

Disclaimer: This is just my opinion and I do like all of these to some degree. I'd love to here yours.

S Tier

  1. World Duel Carnival: This really is a great arc. Yuma not relying on Numbers to win against opponents without them showed how much he had to grow, great antagonists with the Arclight brothers being intrdouced, giving more depths to Shark, even giving brief moments to old & new characters (Gauche, Dextra, Anna, Sparrow) ending season two with III vs Yuma on a high note, the absurdity of roller coasters, going from the tense Vextrix vs Dextra, alright V vs Kite given their connection, Shark vs IV's rivalary, and a lighthearted Yuma vs Gauche, the semi finals with Kite finally losing, and Yuma finally overcoming Tron.

In some ways it actually feels more like a royal free for all thought the city than Battle City..well save for one more. Also, card games on roller coasters. One thing I love is when different characters on different factions come together to face off against another threat and we got that twice: Yuma & Kaito vs 3 and 4, and Yuma teaming up with Anna and Nistro/Gauche against the triple hunters (Plus Braving & Soul Drive really nailed the feel of the season.)

There's like next to no flaws with this arc. Maybe change some duels around here and there since they mostly got Yuma's friends out of the way (i.e. Flip duels Nistro and Dextra with Yuma to make up for what happens), Kathy could've went out against a viable threat (if Nistro beat Sparrow, maybe have Dextra vs Kathy), V could've gotten a bit more to do, but other than that, this is how you do a tournament.

  1. Battle City: This arc really showed off how to do multiple factions right. Team Yugi, Kaiba, the Rare Hunters, Bakura. The Rare Hunters were more dangerous then Pegasus' eliminators, Joey and Yugi's arcs seperate, then covnger at the end with their duel still holds up: especially with the plan to kidnap Mobuka and Tea, forcing every nominally character on the side of "good" to do something, Joey actually would've defeated Marik (granted Mai did well too), Kaiba vs Ishizu deserves a bit more respect than people give it credit for, Yugi vs Kaiba was a great back and forth despite how freaking long it is, and it was so satisfying to have Yami Marik killed off after everything.

Really the only weakness are a few things: Odion and Mai could've had a bit more screentime and buildup beforehand (thanks again anime), Ra's powers were bullshit, and while I do

Dad jokes are supposed to be jokes you can tell a kid and they will understand it and find it funny.

This sub is mostly just NSFW puns now.

If it needs a NSFW tag it's not a dad joke. There should just be a NSFW puns subreddit for that.

Edit* I'm not replying any longer and turning off notifications but to all those that say "no one cares", there sure are a lot of you arguing about it. Maybe I'm wrong but you people don't need to be rude about it. If you really don't care, don't comment.

Possibly the greatest Snap Reaction dad joke I've ever told (it even got me a POWERFUL groan and vehement FU from my wife)

Me grabbing a soda from my (what I thought was) half full 12pk...

Notices there's only 2;

Me: "Awe man... This is a damn bird box!" Her: "What the hell does that mean?!" Me: (Pulls both cans out & shows them to her) "It's only got Toucans."

I'm not ashamed to admit the look on her face was glorious.

Who is Important to Your Team?

Which players on your team's roster should they lock in for the year, or longer?

Which players do you wish your team should move on from.

I'm going to go through each team with my opinions. Feel free to tell me why I'm wrong, or share your own opinions, etc...

Atlanta Hawks

Lock in: Trae Young, DeAndre Hunter, John Collins, Kevin Huerter, Cam Reddish, Clint Capela, Danilo Gallinari, Bogdon Bogdanovic, Sharife Cooper, Onyeka Okongwu, Jalen Johnson

Move on: Solomon Hill

Uncertain: Delon Wright, Lou Williams, Skyler Mays, Gorgui Dieng, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot

Atlanta is young and good at the same time, there aren't really any actual pieces they should move on from, and tbh there are only a few pieces that wouldn't matter either way. I will point out Solomon Hill as being someone who would only take away minutes from someone more worthy of the playing time. Unless they are absolutely demolished by injuries he probably shouldn't see the floor.

Boston Celtics

Lock in: Jayson Tatum, Robert Williams, Grant Williams, Marcus Smart, Dennis Schroder, Payton Pritchard, Al Horford

Move on: Jaylen Brown, Josh Richardson

Uncertain: Romeo Langford, Brodric Thomas, Aaron Nesmith, Sam Hauser, Jabari Parker, Juancho Hernangomez, Bruno Fernando, Enes Kanter,

Time to get crazy! I hate this roster construction and am of the opinion that Brown and Tatum aren't the ideal fit. I have Boston choosing Tatum over Brown in the long run (I personally like Brown more, but most would want Tatum). Some of the younger pieces with talent and potential stay like Timelord, Grant, and Pritchard, as well as some pieces that are extremely good in what they do in Horford, Smart, and Schroder. Finding better fits around them and focusing on playmaking being the priority would make this tea much better. They move on from Brown in this case to try a different fit from a high caliber player, and Richardson fits the Smart role, and I don't think he would be utilized very well on this roster with Smart already doing what he would be doing, but worse at this point.

Brooklyn Nets

Lock in: Kevin Durant, James Harden, Joe Harris, Bruce Brown, Patty Mills, LaMarcus Aldridge, Blake Griffin, Paul Millsap, Cameron Thomas, Jevon Carter

Move on:

Uncertain: Kyrie Irving, DeAndre Bembrey, David Duke Jr., Kessler Edwards, James Johnson, Nicholas Claxton, Day'Ron Sharpe

Nothing wild here for the most part. The Nets have a solid team, the only issue is a
