What I think would happen if the attempted assassinations were successful

Thank you to u/epicnoober1233 for the idea. Consider this like a β€œpart two” to my post from yesterday. Again, I’m just speculating so consider this all loosely, and these events are mutually exclusive, not one timeline.

Andrew Jackson- At least one of Richard Lawrence’s guns doesn’t jam and Jackson is gunned down on Capitol Hill in 1835. Not only would this be the first time in US history a president was murdered, but it’d also be the first time a sitting president has died. The constitutional crisis of who succeeds a dead president hits the country 6 years earlier. Now here’s the thing: the practice of the Vice President becoming president is mostly due to the fact that John Tyler, more or less, made a power grab and demanded to be considered the president, not acting president, and he succeeded. I’m not necessarily sure VP Van Buren would’ve done the same thing, though, meaning the way the line of succession works could be completely and unrecognizably different. Either way, I think Van Buren takes over the job, with either the title β€œpresident” or β€œVice President”. He serves out the rest of Jackson’s second term and is succeeded by William Henry Harrison. Van Buren’s legacy would be much more positive to those who know anything about him, as he isn’t saddled with the panic of 1837.

Abraham Lincoln- I wasn’t going to include presidents that were assassinated (and I won’t for the other 3) but Abraham Lincoln’s first assassination attempt -On August 20th, 1864- has one fundamental difference from the successful one: Hannibal Hamlin was the VP at the time. So if Lincoln were infact murdered during his first assassination attempt, Hamlin would take over, and in all likeliness would’ve been given the Republican nomination in Lincoln’s place. I’m gonna assume President Hamlin signs off on Sherman’s March as well, and that coupled with sympathy votes from Lincoln’s death could secure him victory in the 1864 election over McLellan. With Hamlin overseeing the end of the civil war and the ratifying of the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments β€œin Lincoln’s memory”, I could see him winning in 1868 if he chooses to run. If he does then the south would be in much better shape post-war and freed slaves would be better off with no sabotage from Johnson. Hamlin’s legacy would be that of possibly a top 10 president, but Lincoln would not. He’d be remembered as a Kennedy type, remembered mostly as a β€œwhat he could’ve been”.

Teddy Roosevelt: His thicc glasses case and speech

American Presidential First Names (Repost)

(This was originally a post on my old account which I deleted because I grew to dislike my old username.)

Be civil. I understand that politics are emotional and passionate, but this is not about personal opinions on these men, this is just about their first names. As it is, naming your child after a US President is an existing trend and does give them a powerful namesake. Presidents also often popularize the usage of their names. Calvin reached its most popularity peak in 1924 and Grover reached its popularity peak in 1885.

First Names:

(6) James (Madison, Monroe, Polk, Buchanan, Garfield, and Carter) - Hebrew for "Supplanter"

(4) John (Adams, Q. Adams, Tyler, and Kennedy) - Hebrew for "God is gracious"

(4) William (Harrison, McKinley, Taft, and Clinton) - English for "Resolute Protection"

(3) George (Washington, H. W. Bush, and W. Bush) - Greek for "Farmer"

(2) Andrew (Jackson and Johnson) - Greek for "Strong"

(2) Franklin (Pierce and Roosevelt) - English for "Free landholder"

What if every major losing candidate for US presidency won? (also posted in r/alternatehistory)

So, I did lie in the title. I have not chosen impeached presidents, nor have I chosen any Confederate soldiers, or pro-slavery politicians from the Civil War Era. I also removed Nixon as a possible as he resigned.

Here are all of the Presidents of the United States, if the losing candidate won:

George Washington, Independent, of Virginia. Elected 1788-89. VP John Adams. *

George Clinton, Democratic-Republican, of New York. Elected 1792.VP George Washington.

Thomas Jefferson, Democratic-Republican, of Virginia. Elected 1796. VP Aaron Burr.

John Adams, Federalist, of Massachusetts. Elected 1800. VP Charles Cotesworth Pinckney.

Charles Cotesworth Pinckney, Federalist, of South Carolina. Elected 1804. VP Rufus King. (Serves 2 terms)

DeWitt Clinton, Democratic-Republican, of New York. Elected 1812. VP Jared Ingersoll.

Rufus King, Federalist, of New York. Elected 1816. VP John Eager Howard.

James Monroe, Democratic-Republican, of Virginia. Elected 1820. VP Daniel D. Thompkins.*

Andrew Jackson, Democratic-Republican, of Tennessee. Elected 1824. VP John Caldwell Calhoun.

John Quincy Adams, National Republican, of Massachusetts. Elected 1828. VP Richard Rush.

Henry Clay Sr., National Republican, of Kentucky. Elected in 1832. VP John Sergeant.

William Henry Harrison, Whig, of Ohio. Elected in 1836. VP Francis Granger.

Martin Van Buren, Democrat, of New York. Elected in 1840. VP Richard Mentor Johnson.

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Just because it's a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke

Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.

THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB

Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"

I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual

So check out r/jokes for all types of jokes

r/unclejokes for dirty jokes

r/3amjokes for real weird and alot of OC

r/cleandadjokes If your really sick of seeing not dad jokes in r/dadjokes

Punchline !

Edit: this is not a post about NSFW , This is about jokes, knock knock jokes, blonde jokes, political jokes etc being posted in a dad joke sub

Edit 2: don't touch the thermostat

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

I said "hey look, an escaPEA"

No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!

This is the first time that I’ve ever released any sort of ranking of the presidents and am open to any criticism and debates at all whether that be on here or on private message. I will be releasing a subsequent tier list of the presidents within the next couple of days as well so stay tuned for that. Both current president Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump will not be included in this ranking or in my tier list due to recency bias. Again, please let me know your thoughts on this ranking whether it be positive or negative. This list will change in time and part of that is because of the new information that I will acquire of the presidents so I encourage all feedback so just know that this is not the finished product

What if every losing nominee in every US presidential election won?

Thompkins.*
