Kaiserreich 0.17 - 'Springtime for Kaiser'

Kaiserreich Beta 0.17 - โ€˜Springtime for Kaiserโ€™

Hey everyone! Our next update here, it's not a big one but is rather a huge compilation of bug fixes and some smaller changes. We hope you enjoy it all the same! Now stop memeing, the pretty words are here.

  • The KR4 team

Changes

Notable Additions

  • The unit limit formula has been fully reworked - it now uses the countryโ€™s total population as a base, and then further modifies that value based on the countryโ€™s industrialisation relative to its population. The upper caps have been completely removed.

  • Removed the militia unit - militias are now represented by infantry division templates with low combat width.

  • Restored the resource gain from infrastructure, but at a rate of 5% instead of the vanilla 10%.

  • Syndicalist-aligned Social Democrats have been removed. All such paths have been reviewed and moved to full RadSoc or full SocDem.

  • Expanded the interactions of the Austrian Military Occupation path with Germany, Poland and the Belgrade Pact - The Brotherhood of Slavs as a faction no longer exists, and its previous members now join the Belgrade Pact instead, calling them into the war against Austria. If Austria loses this war, it then seeks formal integration into the German Empire.

  • The Union of Britainโ€™s Republican Army and their high command are no longer a ragtag group of screamy militias.

  • Overhauled the Indian portraits and rosters.

  • Added support for additional font colours and characters for decisions and tooltips.

  • Ongoing rebalancing and speed-up work in the Spanish Civil War, which is now set up to end in 1939 or before in most runs. The Spanish Civil War will now always occur, unless bypassed in Game Rules.

Thoughts on Geoffrey of Monmouth as a source

Good afternoon all. I have been re-reading the Historia Regum Britanniae (1966 Penguin Classics edition) and was wondering if the folks on this sub have any thoughts on the text.

Geoffrey was obviously writing well after the pagan era in Britain but his book, and for his own contemporary political reasons. However, he explicitly discusses paganism among the pre-Roman (and post-Roman) Celtic peoples in ways which it is tempting to think may be remnants of older folklore traditions.

The most interesting part I found on this read is in "Before the Romans came" and is a section on the life of king Bladud (son of Rud Hud Hudibras). Geoffrey recounts two incidents of pagan relevance: a talking eagle who spoke prophetically during the construction of the "fortress of Paladur" (modern Shaftesbury in Dorset). Bladud is also said to have founded the city of Bath, (aka the Roman Aquae Sulis) in the name of Minerva (Sulis to the Britons). The ash of incense burners apparently turned to stone at the baths, which seems a strangely incidental kind of magic to record and makes me think it might reflect a pre-Goffarian legendary tradition. The editor of this edition, Lewis Thorpe, also suggests that there is a link to a separate legendary tradition of Bladud being healed of leprosy by the baths.

Does anyone on this sub have any suggestion of other surviving Celtic traditions of talking eagles or legends connected with King Bladud? Much of Geoffrey's writing in this chapter is about succession and politics so to have two pagan "miracles" mentioned within one character's lifetime seems interesting from a Celtic recon perspective.

More generally I would be interested to hear members' thoughts on Geoffrey's relevance (or lack thereof) to Celtic reconstruction given that much of the source material for the practice is medieval in origin.

I hope this post is relevant to this sub, please let me know if not. I am mainly a contributor on the eclectic pagan and Hellenism subs. As you can tell from my username I am a fan of Geoffrey's work in its own right!

ELI Hal Jordan: What is DC Infinite Frontier?

https://preview.redd.it/w4oyrlsrysx61.jpg?width=3975&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=782bd7c3505d45f849bd45008dd629dc7e9e69af

Q: Alright, let's get straight to the point. What is Infinite Frontier?

A: Infinite Frontier is the name of the DC event that will kick off the next era of DC Universe titles that beginning in March 2021. It's not a continuity reboot like The New 52 nor will every title be renumbered a la DC Rebirth, but the idea is similar in that it's a fresh start for the DC Universe, with many titles getting brand new creative teams, making this a very ideal jump-in point. The creatives in this line comprise of a mix of A-listers, rising indie talents, and creators who've worked on DC properties in other media.

Chronologically, Infinite Frontier will take place some time after the events of Dark Nights: Death Metal, which resulted in the creation of a multiverse of multiverses where anything can be canon. DC Future State, the two-month long event that takes place in January and February 2021, will offer a sneak peak into a number of possible futures, with many of the same creative teams moving onto their respective Infinite Frontier titles.

The era will kick off on March 2 with DC Infinite Frontier #0, an oversized one-shot led by Joshua Williamson (The Flash, Batman/Superman) with a framing story centered on Wonder Woman (in the wake of Death Metal) and the Spectre. The one-shot will feature snippets of upcoming storylines:

  • Prologue, by Joshua Williamson, James Tynion IV, Scott Snyder, John Timms, and Alex Sinclair
  • Justice League, by Brian Michael Bendis, David Marquez, and Tamra Bonvillain
  • Batman, by James Tynion IV, Jorge Jimรฉnez, and Tomeu Morey
  • Wonder Woman, by Becky Cloonan & Michael W. Conrad, Alitha Martinez & Mark Morales, Emilio Lopez
  • Wonder Girl, by Joรซlle Jones and Jordie Bellaire
  • Green Lantern: Alan Scott, by James Tynion IV and Stephen Byrne
  • Teen Titans Academy, by Tim Sheridan, Rafa Sandoval & Jordi Tarragona, and Alejandro Sanchez
  • Superman, by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, Jamal Igle, and Hi-Fi
  • Green Arrow & Black Canary, by Joshua Williamson, Alex Maleev, and Jordie Bellaire

Sword/Shield Minimum Battles

Rules:

  • The goal is to minimize the number of battles. A wild battle you run away from immediately does not have to count.
  • No talking to the hiker in the wild area that gives out experience candy (you could talk to him over and over again to gain unlimited exp with no battles)
  • No camping (same reason as the last rule)
  • No interacting with other games
  • No item menu in battle

I've done a bunch of minimum battles challenges. Sword/Shield was the first one I did, but I did it with items in battle, which makes things a lot easier. I wanted to try again without.

Since the first three gyms are Grass, Water, and Fire, your starter is going to have a bad matchup. You technically get a Toxel on route 5, but it's slow, frail, and it comes at level 1, so it's not that helpful, and so your starter is going to have to handle the bad matchup alone.

In my minimum battles challenge, I choose Grookey to postpone the bad matchup as long as possible (also since I allowed items in battle I could catch the pokemon from Kabu's gym challenge to help). However, without items in battle, I don't see a way for Thwackey and Toxel to defeat Bede 2 at the level you'd be at.

I looked to the other starters. Raboot at first glance didn't seem to have anything for Bede 2, but I could see Drizzile doing it. I didn't know how Drizzile could get past Milo, but I was going figure it out hopefully. However, last second I hate a change of heart and looked at Raboot again, and I decided to go for that instead.

I'll list all the battles below and comment on the ones I have comments for.

Start-Milo

1 - Hop 1 (Postwick)
2 - ??? (Slumbering Weald)
3 - Youngster Jake (Route 2)
4 - Youngster Benjamin (Route 2)

5 - Hop 2 (Route 2) - This is the first battle I had to think about, but it's not that hard. I bought an Oran Berry from Wedgehurst for this. Scorbunny is actually better than Grookey here because it's not weak to Peck and has a special move it can switch to after being Growled at. Shouldn't be too big a problem.

I then spent far too long in the wild area collecting watts, berries, and other items. I bought the TR for Blaze Kick which should be good enough for a while.

6 - Team Yell Grunt 1 (Motostoke)
7 - Team Yell Grunt 2 (Motostoke)
8 - Team Yell Grunt 3+4 (Motostoke)
9 - Hop 3 (Motostoke)
10 - Schoolboy Peter (Route 3)

11 - Worker Sandra (Galar Mine 1) - This battle is my first loss. I got cocky. After Peter I

However, there are a few fails where they die:

  • As stated before, Wilson dies in the D.E.B fail and Ellie dies in Multiple fails.
  • Everyone in Lawyered up is Killed in the CCC Nuke fail in JPE, as the entire city is destroyed.
  • Hank and Hayden are killed in ANOTHER Nuke fail in T4L.
  • Everyone else is killed in the Moon fail in T4L.

(Warning: Morbid dad joke) True Story -- My family were planning my mum's funeral. We always try to keep things light and try to stay positive, just as Mum would have it...

The funeral director was asking us what we think Mum should wear in her casket.

Mum always loved to wear sarongs (fabric wraps that go around the torso and drape downward a bit like a long skirt would), so my uncle suggested that she wear a sarong in there.

The funeral director looked a bit confused, as did some of our family members, to which my uncle added:

"What's sarong with that?"

I started laughing like an idiot. He was proud of it too. The funeral director was rather shocked. We assured her, and our more proper relatives, that Mum would've absolutely loved the joke (which is very true).

His delivery was perfect. I'll never forget the risk he took. We sometimes recall the moment as a way help cushion the blows of the grieving process.

--Edit-- I appreciate the condolences. I'm doing well and the worst is behind me and my family. But thanks :)

--Edit-- Massive thanks for all the awards and kind words. And the puns! Love 'em.
