We have gender-neutral pronouns in my first language (Turkish) so I decided to see what would happen if you don't specify gender while using google translate and found this out. It might just be sorted out according to the frequency of the usage but still kind of annoying.

Personally I am left leaning but honestly FUCK people trying to make languages gender neutral

All these made up terms trying to be inclusive are all just performative bullshit. You see, all languages just magically formed out of the blue one day without them reflecting those times at all. Those made up words you're talking about are not all the same as made up words hundred of years ago. You guys are trying to completely change a language to seem woke. Again I am very left leaning btw.

/uj Like I get what they are going with some words being performative (see adding on an x to an already gender neutral word like folx) but like... If it makes grammatical sense and is consistent with the language, why not? Literally all words are made up. Saying fuck any efforts to make language gender neutral is just weird to me.

Gender neutral language in my mother tongue (greek)

I am really struggling to find a way I'm comfortable being addressed in my mother tongue, as there aren't really any gender neutral pronouns/articles and even that aside, all adjectives are gendered. A lot of people use @ or * instead in writing, and I'm mostly fine with it, but it doesn't work very well in spoken language. Are there any alternatives? I know spanish and french (and other romance languages) speakers have similar problems, so even if you're not greek, I would appreciate your input and recommendations.

Do you think neopronouns are useful in languages with no gender neutral pronouns?

Does this include emoji pronouns and/or word pronouns (bun/bunself, cat/catself etc)? Yes, this includes any made up pronoun that does not already exist in any language.

I’m on the fence about them. While I don’t mind if someone uses them, I personally can’t understand them and how they work in any language. As in, my brain isn’t able to process it as an actual pronoun.

Preferred Gender Neutral titles & language

Hello there all my genderqueer folk and non-binary pals!

I've been doing some thinking regarding which titles, terms and language I'd prefer to use for when I do come out as non-binary/queer to my friends and family.

I used this wiki as it contains quite a few alternatives. Some of these were easy (such as sibling) while others were difficult (aunt... uncle... eh what??).

Typical male / female terms Non-binary terms
M / F X or NB
Male / Female Enby
Man / Woman Enby or Adult
Mr / Mrs Mx
He/him / She/her They/them
Brother / Sister Sibling
Uncle / Aunt (Auntie/Aunty) Untie/Unty
Nephew / Niece Nieph
Boyfriend / Girlfriend Partner
FiancΓ© / FiancΓ©e Betrothed
Husband / Wife Spouse

As for deciding whether to go with X or NB, I'm not too sure. Here in Australia I'm allowed to change my gender & choose what I'd like on my legal documents (as long as it's not offensive) but am unsure of which would be more recognisable. It's still relatively new so I'm sure there will be confusion regardless of what I choose as it's not M / F.

What you think of the terms Untie and Nieph? I quite like them. I was aware of the terms pibling and nibling but I simply wasn't fond of them.

As for parental terms, that's not something I'll be doing in life so I'm of no help there! I'm sure the wiki I linked earlier will give you some ideas.

Thanks for reading, I'd love to hear what titles/terms you go by.

I think it’s super stupid that people would rather add more pronouns in the English language rather than eliminating gender in pronouns and making it gender neutral as a whole for those who Want to get better representation for the LGBTQ.

I grew up speaking a language that is gender neutral when it comes to pronouns. It worked out fine for that language as a whole, but sometimes you just have to ask a clarifying question of that person’s gender.

I find it super Irrational for people who wants to break out of the gender binary pronoun norms by adding more pronouns to be acceptable. We cannot forget the fact that a language, while a social construct as a whole, has certain rules in order to make communication simpler. Adding more pronouns will make the language more difficult to understand and giving it hella complications.

Instead, I propose for the movement to instead abolish one of the gender pronouns and stick to one, Because it maintains more of the simplicity of the language, rather than making it more complicated. I suggest keeping β€œshe” because people in this Particular movement tend to support women empowerment and making everything he seems too against such beliefs.

I generally support the movement regarding this, but I just think it’s super fucking irrational to Complicate a language instead of making it simpler.

(European) languages are already gender neutral, some people are just too stupid to understand it or just don't want to

Terms like Latinx make my blood boil. Cant you like, open a spanish grammar texbook and read the part where it says that masculine is also a NEUTER? Either you can't understand this concept, you are too lazy to even research it or you want to do something "Useful" by creating problems where there are none. The worst part is that anglophones try to change languages they dont even speak in an advanced level. Change english if you want, it's your language, but dont complain on french, spanish, russian and others just because the fact that gender in those languages is completely random (on objects) and that masculine is already a neuter (or there is an actual neuter) is a difficult concept to grasp.
