Hi all, I'm excited to announce that we'll be having Gavin Turek on the sub tomorrow to answer all your questions! Gavin Turek is a singer-songwriter from LA who's about to release her much-awaited debut album Madame Gold this Friday and we'll have her around to talk about the album on release day!

Gavin has previously released music like her EP Good Look For You and a collaborative album with TOKiMONSTA, and most recently released single ILLUSIONS in June supporting the new album.

For those new to the AMA process, this is not the thread to post your questions. A dedicated thread will go up an hour before the stated time of the AMA.

Haven't found posts about the man, so why not do one myself. Gavin Friday is better known for his work with Virgin Prunes and some of his film work (The Boxer, for example), but he also did a couple of solo albums that are really underappreciated.

His initial solo run consists of three solo albums:

• Each Man Kills the Thing He Loves (1988) which features among other things, a song based on Oscar Wilde's poems (a total banger), non-Scott Walker-ish take on Jacques Brel and overly decadent take on Bob Dylan's Death is not the End. The original songs are also good - Dazzle and Delight is low-key highlight of the album, while Man Of Misfortune is a good mid-tempo rocker.
• Adam'n'Eve (1992) is the continuation of the previous album's aesthetic albeit with more electronic flourishes. Falling Off The Edge Of The World is the highlight for me - really immersive song. It is also an album where Friday goes goofy with lots of songs like The Big No No and King of Trash. Overall, it is a good listen but some tonal shifts are an acquired taste.
• Shag Tobacco (1995) is his very best solo effort front to back. The album features Friday's best known solo song - Angel (featured Romeo + Juliet soundtrack). In addition to his regular collaborator Maurice Seezer, this album also features production from Tim Simenon and it shows - the sound is very different from the previous albums and the music is much more interesting. The best song on the album is Mr. Pussy, however the other songs are great too - Little Black Dress is the pop rock piece for the masses, Caruso is your hipster name-dropping extravaganza, Kitchen Sink Drama is obligatory trip-hop piss take, Dolls is the intense one, You, Me and the World War Three is dark and intense one, My Twentieth Century is the power ballad of the album. Really recommend this album.

After that Friday went on to do soundtrack and score. He released another solo album in 2011 title catholic, but it is not as interesting as his previous work. Although I would probably appreciate this contemplative work more upon getting older.
