Consider a private boarding school for children aged from 11 to 18 in the United States. Consider a student was discovered by the school to be using a controlled substance. Under what conditions (e.g. school location) is the school allowed to enforce a Substances Policy where the school is to involve healthcare services for long-term medical treatment without involving law enforcement?
The school does not actually exist (yet). I am, for leisure purposes, writing a paper on a charitable private boarding school for children in poverty to sufficiently equip them for undergraduate studies and life skills to enter the middle class.
I believe that the justice system works most of the time. However, I believe that for substance addicts, the justice system does more harm than good. In my paper, if possible, I hope to write about a Substances Policy where the school pursues long-term medical treatment for students who are discovered by the school to be using controlled substances instead of involving the justice system.

I go to a boarding high-school in the US. I have also gone to a public high-school (although it was mostly online) so AMA.
This really was my last resort. I didnβt want to make it seem like my son is an issue in my life. I was fairly young when he was born, and didn't have a clue what I was doing. I moved away when he was 9, so I was previously seeing him only in the summer for a couple of years. He just turned 15. His behavioral issues started happening when he was 12. He came a little over a year ago. It was rough at first, but then it seemed like his behavior was getting better, turns out he just got better at hiding things. I found out he was selling pills last week. Worst part is that it was my 3-year-old daughter who led me to find them. I was beyond livid. That was pretty much the last straw.
My wife decided to take a trip with the kids while I figure stuff out here. When his mom used to complain, I thought that everything couldnβt have been that bad. I was wrong. She wanted to send him years ago, but I told her to just give him a chance. My cousin went to the school I plan on sending him to. 11 years later his relationship with my aunt & uncle is so strained. I don't want that to happen, but everything I tried seems to have failed. I just want to help him and not be his enemy.
Grew up in the US, but my father was British and felt we should attend the same boarding school he went to, so I was sent overseas when I was seven. Was raised pretty split between the US and UK. So, ask me anything!

BIO 100 was recently redesigned to honor our institutional mandate to allow all our young people 1) to see themselves reflected in the curriculum and 2) to develop knowledge and skills to critically interrogate our individual and collective place in the natural world. I was woken up late at night by a man and woman. I started screaming yelling for my mum and dad and just they kept saying they had permission to do this I was dragged from my bed kicking and screaming I couldn't hold my grip and fell to the floor they stumbled and I got loose and crawled under the bed and began to cry I saw my stuffy he had fallen to the floor I held onto him wishing this was the worst nightmare of my life that I'd wake any minute and get a hug from my parents.
I was pulled from under the bed, handcuffed, forcibly changed from my pajamas to everyday clothes. By this point my nose was bleeding and still crying as I was led out of our front I saw my parents in the Living Room sputtering. I just yell my question: why are you doing this to me? they did not reply to my question.
I tried getting help at the airport but the man was Sheriff department employee so they let us on.
after a year of hell my parents put me back into normal school but said they'd send me away if my grades started slipping.
I've exhausted all time from waking in middle of night from nightmares so of course my grades started slipping.
Teacher tried questioning me and I ran away been staying at friends house.
I've been trying to get advice
- Some people say CPS isn't trustworthy and would return to my parents
- Some people say this legal
I just want to know is there anyway I can get returned to Scotland I have uncle there but no way of contacting him.

I read this in the US probably between the ages of 7-9, so likely between 1992-1994ish.
No idea about the reading level as by that point I was into all manner of beyond high school reading, but I suspect it was for kids or YA based on the print layout (not squished together) and the cover (softcover with attractive colours, like bright blue? I think that 90s style of photo cutouts maybe?)
Ironically while I've always been absolutely convinced it involved magic, looking back I can't remember that specifically. Just silly little details:
- instead of sports or PE, kids having to do games
- lines for punishment
- strikingly, girls in this co-ed school doing knitting as a fad, teaching each other new stitches & muttering "knit one, purl one" to themselves constantly (my mom had just taught me to knit but I knew full well knitting was not a fad at my school)
- a Miss Cadwallader, the first encounter with that name I ever had, and attempting to figure out how it was pronounced. This may be in the title??
I suspect this was a reprint, as you might guess. My copy of the book was destroyed before I could finish it & I've always wanted to find it again.
If anyone has any guesses based upon this extremely vague memory, I will be very grateful!
I was wondering if I should change my boarding school, to instead of a regular school to some kind of magic school or like a school with fight training or something, maybe like a really old school thats haunted or just give it lore and extra stuff
The book was heavily assigned as a high school English book in the mid 1970s.
