A list of puns related to "Funny Soccer Team Names"
Southern Illinois Salukis always made me laugh.
It just doesn't seem right to me - you look at a team like Liverpool, and its stars - Senegalese, Scottish, Egyptian, Brazilian.... It doesn't make sense to me for them to be 'Liverpool F.C.' It is my strong belief that if a team is going to be '[City] FC', then its players should be exclusively from that City. This would correlate nicely with my other unpopular football opinion: 'you should only support your hometown/country'.
I'll get absolutely rinsed for this opinion, but if teams are going to be international hodge-podges, I would prefer the NFL style with more abstract team names (I'm not American, for the record, before 'fuck off, Yank etc'). It's not like most teams don't already have these sort of nicknames anyway: Spurs, Blades, Saints, etc etc
Obviously I know this is something that would never, ever happen, this is just my unpopular opinion on this subject
EDIT: Yes, I am aware that NFL teams have geographical elements to their names - obviously I wasn't referring to that, but the second part of the names. Though I would be much more open to e.g. The Manchester Lions than 'Manchester City F.C.' - that would also sit more right with me with Manchester having 2 teams.
Hey all, I am trying to start a soccer club and my fellow members would like to get feedback on potential team names. The link to the survey is here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CXN6G6P
Nothing too racist or inappropriate as this is a public league.

In Europe, soccer teams have names like Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Barcelona FC.
In other sports, including in Europe, teams tend to have mascot-style nicknames: see all US teams like the Denver Broncos (NFL) and the Chicago Bulls (NBA); and then Sydney Roosters (Australian rugby league), Catalan Dragons (French rugby league), Wigan Warriors (English rugby league).
Why donβt American teams use names like βDenver FCβ? And how did the American style spread to other countries in non-soccer sports?
