Probably doesnt sound like an upopular opinion but the media and society doesnt seem to think so. We have a real genuine problem of prison rape (both male and female) but for some reason its glorified in the media.
The whole thing about "dont drop the soap" or "a man like you wouldnt survive in prison" is jus small ways people glorify and accept rape in prisons. Guards and cops even use it as a way to interrogate suspect in media because its so damn prevalent. Like I really hope real cops (though i seriously doubt it) arent actually threatening prison rape to suspects to get them to fess up.
Added on to that Guards themselves (Especially in female only prisons) ARE SOMETIMES THE ONES DOING THE RAPING. That is a seriously fucked up situation and it's disgusting how people get away with this shit.
Everyone makes jokes about it. Everyone makes fun of it. Hell people even justify it because these people "committed horrible crimes". Like yea, the guy/gal who murdered 6 people probably doesnt deserve any sympathy, but even with that being said, rape should never be used as a punishment.
It minimizes sexual assault and people think its okay because its in prison. Its never good. Stop making jokes about prison rape and start going out of the way to acc stop it. You want people to pay for their crimes, go for it! But rape shouldn't be one of the punishments. Even if it's not "officially endorsed" it's obviously happening enough for it to be thought of as one of the reasons you don't wanna go to prison.
