A list of puns related to "Funny Gluten Free"
Got into a heated discussion with some non-celiacs on a crafting thread who suggested βgluten freeβ on a possible inclusion on a list of things to hate which included racism, homophobia, and sexism and some trivial/funny ones like decaf and vegan cake. I called them out saying thatβs not really fair considering celiac is a disease and gluten free is not a choice but a necessity. I was told to βlighten upβ and βget over itβ because the group is known for being snarky. But it is also very anti anything that seems like persecution of a minority or disability.
Is snarking at gf funny because of fad diets or is it ableism? Please give me your genuine thoughts as Iβd like to know if Iβm being too sensitive.
For clarity, Iβm a vegan, too, but thatβs a choice and can certainly deal with jokes about vegan food etc
[The show begins with Jerryβs musings on the gluten free lifestyle as a standup bit. He wonders where all the gluten goes when itβs taken out of foods, and how we are descended from people who crossed deserts for weeks without food, only to decline any bread that was offered to them at the end of the journey.]
George is also skeptical but tries an item from the GF menu anyway as he says he has felt pretty lethargic lately. He insists his lethargy increased after the meal, and suspects the wait staff deliberately added gluten to his order.
George and Jerryβs skepticism gets them in trouble with Cedric & Bob who lead an angry mob of people with celiac disease.
Jerry tolerates his girlfriendβs gluten free cooking but dumps her after she decides to trash most of the items in his pantry for having gluten in them. She asks why does he want to keep βthose terrible foodstuffs.β
[High hat riff begins]
His reply: βBecause itβs myyyy gluten!β
[Freeze frame, audience laughter, applause, and bass riff.]
I usually get domino's GF pizza because I've got issues with wheat. But I read somewhere that people really shouldn't do this as it's very annoying for the chefs. Is this the case? Should I stop ordering from dominos?
This just happened yesterday.
To make things even more comical, after this verbal exchange, I was served a pasta dish... which was sprinkled with coagulated cow secretions in the form of parmesan cheese. This was also after I had specifically listed I donβt eat things like meat and dairy.
As an introverted, chill vegan I didnβt want to βbe that guyβ at the dinner by complaining, so I was just ready to pass my meal off to someone else in a discrete manner without making a scene. But then my non-vegan pal spoke up for me, which was a kind gesture lol.
I still find myself somewhat anxious in situations where Iβm being presented food I refuse to consume due to ethical beliefs - especially when at fancy wedding dinners! How do you deal with these scenarios?
Anyways, this series of awkward events really reminded me that veganism still isnβt a clear concept in everybodyβs mind.
Does anyone have a funny gluten free story?
I went to the movies the other day and wanted to get some popcorn. I walked up and asked the man working behind the counter if the popcorn was gluten free. He looked puzzled and said "I don't know, do you want to taste it and see?" No thanks...
Super nice to be in the grips of a very bad reaction and then watch a lazy, unoriginal comedian make jokes about how gluten free people are so annoying. Can we retire this stupid joke at least until celiac disease has more awareness so maybe people know how messed up it is for people like him to say that they like to put regular cookies in a gf cookie sleeve and give it to someone who eats gluten free?
Seriously. I'm tired of the lazy comedy in the first place, especially when people close to me parrot those jokes, but suggesting that intentionally causing someone to get sick is funny? Screw. You.
And get this, right before he started with this regurgitated routine, he talked about how people with peanut allergies are annoying. Seriously, who jokes about someone having a reaction and needing their epi pen?! He seriously made fun of someone needing an epi pen!
And why did he feel the need to just slam people with peanut allergies and gluten issues? Because if someone found his joke about peanut butter on toast not to be funny, clearly they are whiners with food allergies and we should all make fun of them.
And yeah, I get it that it's just a joke but it's a joke I'm tired of hearing. Whatever. The show was Last Comic Standing and there are loads of people funnier than him so he'll probably be gone in no time. Lazy, unfunny trash...
My roomie has spent the night in emerg and Iβm hoping to pick her up some treats that arenβt pre-made grocery store garbage. Any recommendations?
So, I have a 'silent' reaction and I don't know its happened until I've eaten something containing a lot of histamine (then I'm in pain).
I'm pretty sure it was a labelled gluten free oatmeal mix that did it (nothing else was new).
Is this a common thing, to be glutened by a GF product?
Anybody have any tips for cheaper (fast) ways to eat gf at home? (Doctorβs requirement, not by choice). Iβm a good cook and try my best to cook almost everything at home including bread when I can find the time. But with little ones at home itβs getting harder to find the time to do everything from scratch. Does anyone have any time saving tips or premade things they like from stores that they like that donβt break the bank? When I see some of the prices on gf things itβs insane. Iβve been eating this way for about 5 years so I am aware of the basic staple ingredients that are gf. But it would be nice to have a little more flavor into things on the nights where I can only get in like 30-45 min to cook. Homemade gf granola, bread, soup, etc. can be very time consuming, and I havenβt had the time. Buying some premade gf things would save so much time to be able to care for the kids and work but we just canβt afford most of them. Thank you for any suggestions!
I don't have Celiac just get digestive trouble with gluten. I'll eat soy sauce without issue though. Are there any good choices at a Dim Sum restaurant that are ~mostly~ gluten free?
Hey guys. I have almost zero idea about anything Gluten Free, but I want to get some sort of funny or clever gluten-free gift for my boyfriend's brother, who recently found out he has a gluten allergy. I've googled a bunch of sites but don't really know where to look for anything like this. I figured you guys would know better than I would!

What are some gluten free flour recommendations?
Iβve only tried one so far (canβt for the life of me remember the brand) and it wasnβt great, really gritty and gave everything a very distinct whole wheat flavor. Iβm in the US and mostly use flour for baked goods like desserts. Anything thatβs as close to the texture and taste of regular flour would be awesome π
