A list of puns related to "Funny Gatsby"
I was thinking about if and it just occurred to me. Here we have to wealthy men whose goal is to court a women that used to love them(Adam Sandler/Gatsby). Both men are terribly distraught that their former lover is now married to a cheating douchebag. Eventually they rekindle their romance and the husband finds out. Well the husband and wife get back together. The story is even told through the eyes of a friend.(Seth Rogen/Nick) I know, the endings are different, but it still seems similar.
So does anyone else see this or am I just grasping at straws? (Or more likely someone else has already thought of this.)
Just finished today's podcast and am referring to the end where they are thinking about taking a trip to Disney as a group on mobility scooters.
I'm actually a person who uses a mobility scooter because of my disability. With peace and love, please don't try to pretend that you are a group of disabled people and buy these scooters. I love ya'll but this joke really started to not be funny towards the end. Some parks already are making it harder for people who use mobility devices to get in with a disability pass by requiring different types of proof that isn't always feasible to get in time for your trip or sometimes just don't believe you are disabled and think you are just trying to cut in line because so many able-bodied people have taken advantage of this by renting wheelchairs and faking a disability just to get in faster or at a discount. Just like people who use fake service dogs harms the legitimacy those who really use them.
If you were to actually go in to a park or anywhere else using a mobility device, you'd see how inadequate some places are at being accesible. I use a scooter because I have to, not for laughs. It's not always fun. I've gone to parks before that have "accessible" entries to rides like the Six Flags in LA and I had a horrible experience. They had paths marked as disability entrances with stairs, staff who did not know how to let in someone from that entry as well as people straight up denying I could go in to some rides which made me waste so much time I could've used in other rides.
Long story short, for sure the Gadsby and mobility Mary bits are really funny, but please don't take it to that level of buying scooters and pretending to be a group of disabled people. It's not cool.
EDIT **************
Just wanted to be extra clear that I KNOW Ethan didn't do anything with malice. I get the humor, I'm not writing this because I got mad or offended. I was laughing along too til the end when he started specifically to say he was going to try to contact Disney asking about taking a group of disabled people on scooters to see where it went, and at one point comments that it'd be funny if they show up and they're "normal." That's what prompted me to write this post just as a friendly opinion from a disabled fan of how that joke was starting to come off and as plea to not lie about needing the scooters if they contact Disney for the reasons I already stated.
I think it'd be a great idea that if they still want to b

... keep reading on reddit β‘I know itβs a pipe dream, but Shane Gillis proved that if the online backlash to an SNL announcement is bad enough it can lead to the decision being reversed. Literally the only reaction Iβve seen to the Muskrat announcement has been negative, maybe his fanboys on 4chan are excited but everyone else, especially comedy people and fans of SNL, is understandably upset. The universal reaction Iβve been seeing, even among people who donβt hate him as a person, is that heβs clearly not suited to the gig because heβs simply not funny or capable enough to do a live comedy show.
Even when heβs doing a keynote in front of his own rabid fans who eat up every word he says he has all the charisma and confidence of a middle schooler doing a book report on The Great Gatsby after only watching the movie version and hoping the teacher doesnβt figure it out (despite being fully aware that heβs accidentally referred to the main characters as DiCaprio and Spider-Man multiple times). His sense of humor also resembles a middle schoolerβs, with his favorite jokes being weed and the funny numbers. Actually Iβm not entirely convinced he even has a sense of humor at all, it seems more like heβs done market research on what his fans find funny and still manages to butcher the delivery.
The bottom line is that even if the SNL cast loved him and did everything in their power to make him succeed this would still be an enormous train wreck because heβs simply not capable of performing or being funny. Maybe this will just be one of those episodes where the cast and writers publicly embarrass the host but he doesnβt seem like the type who would allow that to happen (though I can also see him being one of those people who genuinely believes everyone is laughing with him rather than at him).
They say any publicity is good publicity but thatβs not really holding true anymore in the social media era, it may be unlikely but I wouldnβt be surprised if thereβs enough negative backlash that SNL drops him as host. Then again a lot of people will tune in out of curiosity or to hate watch so who knows. It all depends on whether one night of possibly good ratings is worth potential long-term damage to reputation of the network and show.
The funeral director was asking us what we think Mum should wear in her casket.
Mum always loved to wear sarongs (fabric wraps that go around the torso and drape downward a bit like a long skirt would), so my uncle suggested that she wear a sarong in there.
The funeral director looked a bit confused, as did some of our family members, to which my uncle added:
"What's sarong with that?"
I started laughing like an idiot. He was proud of it too. The funeral director was rather shocked. We assured her, and our more proper relatives, that Mum would've absolutely loved the joke (which is very true).
His delivery was perfect. I'll never forget the risk he took. We sometimes recall the moment as a way help cushion the blows of the grieving process.
--Edit-- I appreciate the condolences. I'm doing well and the worst is behind me and my family. But thanks :)
--Edit-- Massive thanks for all the awards and kind words. And the puns! Love 'em.

Edit: thank you for awards, I have never gotten one before. I apologize that this is a repost, I did see it on TikTok and thought that it was cute and wanted to share. In the future I will check the sub for similar content before I post anything.

True story; it even happened last night. My 5-year-old son walks up behind me and out of the blue says, "hey."
I turn to him and say, "yeah, kiddo? What's up?"
He responds, "it's dead grass."
I'm really confused and trying to figure out what's wrong and what he wants from me. "What? There's dead grass? What's wrong with that?"

He says, totally straight-faced, "hay is dead grass," and runs off.

Over the last few weeks of the last few weeks quarantine Iβve began reading a lot more than I used to (so far just the some of the works of heavy hitters like Vonnegut and King). It took me a while to find a third book, and even though there are many books that may have been more vital to the literary canon (Hunger Games, IT, books by Shakespeare etc), I had already seen those movies/shows so I figured I would pick something a new to me. So over the past 10 days or so I breezed through Michael Crichtonβs Hard Sci-Fi Pandemic MasterpiecePrey and I am soooo bummed that it took me this long to give it a read.
I fell in love with everything about this book. The prose is mature, but not stuffy. Itβs sentimental, but not melodramatic. Itβs funny, but itβs not cartoonish. I can go on an on. The themes and motifs really resonated with me, especially in 2020/2021, given the overall state of, not just the United States, but the world. The setting(s) were evocatively characterized. No matter how harrowing, or how alien the locales seemed to be, Crichton described them in such a way that quite figuratively transported me there. The main character was richly written, and though this work was a piece of fiction, he really felt like a real person. His motivations, his demons, his highs and his lows. I could have easily believed that Crichton was writing about a real person. And the plot! I admit that it took me a while to fully comprehend what was going on, but thatβs a testament to Crichtonβs ability to weave a complicated web that, by the end of the book, reveals itself to be a beautiful tapestry. I would be lying if I were to say I wasnβt emotionally affected by the end of it.
I know itβs not as sexy as some other books out there at the moment, and maybe itβs not as βclassicβ as something like The Great Gatsby, but I can genuinely say that Prey isnβt just one of the best books Iβve read in the past 10 years, itβs one of the best STORIES Iβve read (or watched) in the past 10 years. If you think itβs gonna be boring, or scary, or βlameβ let me assure you that itβs anything but. Itβs endlessly quotable and searingly memorable, and quite possibly the best book youβve never read (unless you have).
You officially hit rock bottom
