My wife and family are really upset. Got a little boozy last night at a holiday party. I actually behaved myself at the holiday party but drank a little too much egg nog. But wisely called an Uber before things got out of hand. We started an elf on the shelf tradition this year. The kids seem to really enjoy it but maybe take it a little too seriously. I had one turn and they were sad because they found it too easily. So I figured I would be more creative.
Fast forward to my drunk ass coming home last night. I decided take a turn moving the elf on the shelf. I put it on the toilet in the guest bathroom. I didn’t realize that my wife sometimes using that toilet at night. I guess it was dark when she sat down because the elf fell into the bowl while she was going. The elf was a little too big to flush and we had to call a plumber. Kids thought the elf was trying to kill himself and they are beside themselves thinking Santa won’t come now. My wife isn’t talking to me. The elf isn’t going to be dry enough to put up again for at least a couple days!
TL;DR: the elf in the shelf fell into the toilet and my wife covered it with Christmas cheer and now I have to sleep on the couch
For reasons that I don’t really want to get into right now, my SO and I decided to not subject our three year old to Elf on the Shelf. I personally didn’t think that anyone in our family would even think of getting her one, and boy was I wrong. My MIL got her one. Not just the standard one. Some special edition one that she had to travel to three different stores to get. I guess she also forked out almost $100 for it. My SO straight up told her that we are not doing Elf on the Shelf, return it, please get her something else, or just put that money in the savings account (that my MIL started for our daughter.) MIL gave us the worst guilt trip ever. What really got to me was “don’t do it for me, do it for her.” So now I’m a an impasse. Maybe my daughter will like it. Maybe we can just do it this year. maybe we can just take a picture with it. Ugh! I just feel totally in the wrong for even telling my MIL that we don’t want it.
Edit: My MIL got my SO to kinda sorta agree to it by telling him that he used to love it when he was a kid. My SO had no memory of this because, get this, it didn’t come out till 2005! My SO is in his 30’s lol!

I'm sick of seeing the photos, but at least it only affects me during waking hours, unlike my coworkers and friends.
I will choose an entrant at random on Friday and have an official Elf on the Shelf elf and book set sent to you. You can choose the elf's gender and skin tone, as long as the one you want is in stock.
