I(49M) have a daughter(15F) and a son(14M). Both live with me permanently as their mother lives in another state. My daughter has been struggling keeping her grades up and hanging out with the wrong crowd. I have hired a few tutors to help with some subjects and she is seeing a therapist. She will lash out sometimes at home and I will have to punish her.
She asked if she could celebrate her 16th birthday party at the house and I told her that I was fine with having a party as long as she stayed out of trouble and did well on her math test. The party is scheduled for the weekend of January 14th and we have about 10 of her friends coming over. I get a call from the school on Wednesday that she had snuck in a water bottle filled with alcohol and one of her friends had to be sent to the nurse. I went to pick her up and she tells me that her one friend pressured her into bringing the bottle to school. She will serve in-school suspension for 5 days.
When we got home, I took away all her electronics and she can only use her phone for emergencies. I also told her that the birthday party will be cancelled. She got very upset and started screaming at me that I was the worst father in the world. She stormed up to her room and slammed the door.
AITA for canceling my daughter's 16th birthday party?
I (soon 16f) don't get to celebrate my birthday every-year because my parents can't afford it. I got myself a summer job months ago and saved money for my "sweet 16" birthday since my parents won't be doing anything for me this year either.
My birthday is next week. Yesterday I discovered that mom searched my room and took the 120$ I saved and hid under my bed like she always does. I called her and she said she was keeping it safe and we'll talk after she get home since she and dad and my autistic 14yo sister were out.
I waited til they got back and my sister started yelling cheerfully telling me to look at the new sneakers my parents got her. I asked mom for my money but she said she spent it on new sneakers for my sister. I was like what??? My dad said my sister saw, liked, and wanted the sneakers but they didn't have money to buy it and stop her from having a meltdown in the middle of the store and refusing to leave the store without them. I angerily told them that money was saved for my upcoming birthday party. He promised he'll pay me back next month then I can have my birthday party and invite friends over. I told him my birthday isn't next month my friends will laugh if I tell them I postponed it he replied that I should reconsider who I'm friends with then. He has a short temper and I obviously pushed him to his limit when I said no and kept asking them to return the sneakers. He loudly said "NO!!!" And I lost it and said that they are both thieves and I hate them both for stealing my money and ruining yet another birthday for me. He yelled at me and said "NO YOU..ARE..GETTING..ON..MY LAST..NERVE..AND I AIN'T GOING TO TAKE YOUR SH!T NO MORE!!! NO BIRTHDAY PARTY FOR YOU(pointing at me with his finger) NOT NEXT WEEK NOT NEXT MONTH CAUSE OF WHAT YOU JUST SAID AND YOU'RE GODDAMN GROUNDED NOW GET TF OUT MY FACE AND STAY GONE TIL I TELL YOU OTHERWISE". Mom just looked at me sternly approving of his "message". I ran upstairs and Dad shouted after me that I was way out of line and need to be taught some manners for calling them thieves to their face.
I'm grounded now for calling them that. I didn't get my money back but did get called an overprivileged spoiled brat for having little to no consideration for my sister's struggle and acting so selfishly and throwing a 3yo tantrum over a party that they are no longer allowing me to have because I called them thieves.

I love this sub and have had so many great interactions here. It's the best feeling to come home from work and find a beautiful card and some nice words in the mail box. So I wanted to ask if anyone would consider sending something for my birthday?

To be honest, I'm really, really scared... I feel like they won't love me anymore. I feel like I'm only loved since I'm the only "boy" in the family. But I know if I don't do it now I will regret it in the future. I will see who my real family is. And.. if i get disowned... this may be the last time I post. I'll find someone who can help me.. someone that doesn't see me as a freak.
It's going to be hard. Everyone kinda hates me here in Nevada. But, I'll be fine.... right? I don't know, but even if it means my own body will get hurt, I'll be happy. It's supposed to be happy, isn't that what everyone says?
I... guess I'll just have to find out. It's 10:30 PM when this is posted. I have 24 hours to tell them.
