Basically the title lol I'm looking to branch out more
I like a bunch of stuff riffing off Nick Drake, including music at the maximal and minimal end of the pop/folk scale (in other words, I like The Beach Boys, baroque pop,Gilberto & Getz, acoustic, what is commonly called โfolk rockโ, both early and late Elliott Smith, etc.).
Iโm looking for stuff with the same vibe, I guess, whether thatโs American fingerstyle, good melodies or harmonising.
Also like: Alas I Cannot Swim, Don McLeanโs first five albums, some Fleet Foxes, S&G, Vashti. Jeff Buckley seems more easy listening to me.
Need to listen more to: Bridget St John, Joni Mitchell, John Renbourn
Tried and dislike (or neutral on): Iron & Wine, Cat Stevens, Alex G, Sparklehorse, Dylan, later Marling, Fairport/Denny, Jansch and Graham (I donโt like their voices), Bon Iver (mostly), most of Perhacs.
I search the net for Drake recs and just get a lot of anodyne tuneless sap at the โslow, sad, vaguely indie guy plays guitarโ level of recommendation. The other artists I listen to are Taylor Swift and Kacey Musgraves, if that helps any.
The passengers on his plane weren't as lucky
I'm not sure if this has been posted already, but I've been really getting into Frank Ocean's music recently and noticed that he uses the lyrics from the chorus of A Fond Farewell in his song Seigfried. I've been a big fan of Elliott's music for a while now so it was really cool hearing his lyrics reused in that way! If you haven't already, I highly recommend listening to Frank's album Blond.
My friends and I were considering this last night.
My choices are 'Two of Us' by the Beatles instead of 'Here There and Everywhere',
'Satellite of Love' by Lou Reed
and 'Sign O' the Times' by Prince.
Edit: also, it'd blow my mind to hear an interpolation of Wilco's 'I Am Trying to Break Your Heart'
I would like to know your opinion on this, I personally think so

Stats:
Why Find These Numbers?
A few year's back I became curious as to how many fighters would actually qualify for Reebok's top performance tier for payout money. They tout it around as if it is something easy to achieve, but in reality only 90 fighters would qualify for such a tier, with only 48 of them being active in the first place.
For those not in the know, fighters whom have more 20+ Zuffa bouts under their belt received 20k in incentivized Reebok money per fight (now 25k Crypto.com Money). So, basically only about 7% of the current roster qualifies, and only 4% of all the UFC Fighters in general would qualify.
It is NOT a proper incentive when it is damn near impossible to ever even qualify for. However, I feel that the select few fighters whom do end up sticking around the UFC long enough to reach such a tier, should be getting a whole lot more!
It really is quite amazing to be able to have more than 20+ UFC bouts! One would have to fight at least 3 times a year for 7 years to qualify - to go that long without getting cut is a miracle onto itself!
A Retirement Plan?
As such I was thinking that perhaps the UFC could institute a "retirement plan" for fighters whom survive for this long. Meaning, that if a UFC Fighter lasts to 20+ fights, and wants to retire (after hitting a certain age bracket, let's say 38) then they have a job w/ benefits waiting for them. Kind of like the job that Forrest Griffin has.
Or, if the fighters do not want to take the "ambassador" job, then they can still sit on their asses and collect 1k a month, plus medica benefits, and access to the Performance Institute. Granted that they do not ever compete in MMA again. If they decide they don't want to retire, and the UFC is unwilling to provide them w/ fights, then they can forfeit their benefits and go fight elsewhere.
WWE actually does a decent job of this, with their "road agent" programs. This is where retired wrestlers stick with the company and scout/train new talent, or help produce the live events.
Either way, there should be something greater awaiting these fighters whom have put in the work (and years) to make it this far...something besides CTE. Guys like Melvin Guillard would really benefit greatly from such a program existing.

The Eagles defied the odds and clinched a playoff spot in week 17 when they completed their sweep of the Washington โWho cares what they are calledโ. The Eagles took care of business down the stretch knocking off a number of lowly teams to get to 9 wins and be able to rest key starters in week 18. They set up a meeting with their old friend Tom Brady and his Buccaneers down in Tampa for Wildcard Weekend. The Bucs easily took care of the Panthers in week 18 to secure the number two seed. While the game will be down in the Sunshine State, the weather looks to be anything, but sunny. The weather forecast is calling for rain and wind gusts between 20-30 mph which could favor the Eagles and their top ranked rush offense. But running against the Bucs big DL will be no easy task. Vita Vea has a huge size advantage over Kelce who he will most likely be lining up over in a 0 technique and while Ndamukong Suh is not the All-Pro he once was he is still a big body that can clog up the run game. If the Bucs sell out to stop the run it could be on Hurts to try to win it with his arm which could be difficult, especially with the weather. The Bucs have two guys they can match up on Goedert in Antoine Winfield Jr. and Lavonte David and they will get some pass rush help back with the return of JPP. Hurts will need to rely on his young WRs more to get open and quick. On the other side, Brady beat the Eagles with quick short throws earlier this season in a game where he was without Gronk, but while Gronk is back Brady has lost one of his favorite WRs Chris Godwin to an ACL tear and lost Antonio Brown to being crazy and probably running on the side of the road shirtless somewhere. With limited weapons the Eagles need to shutdown Evans with Slay and bracket Gronk. Playing tight with the predicted weather should help the Eagles slow down the Bucs passing attack, but they will still need to worry about the run game and Leonard Fournette who had two TDs against them in week 6. Should be an interesting matchup in the rain and the Eagles will make it really interesting if they can win the battle in the trenches. Go Birds! |

COACHING SEARCH
The Lions do not need a new head coach or anything like that, but they do have a vacancy at offensive coordinator after parting ways with Anthony Lynn. The big question here will be whether or not Dan Campbell wishes to retain play-calling himself or not. When head coaches do the play-calling themselves, the coordinator position really becomes the spot for their right-hand man/advisor, the most consistent voice in their head set helping them figure out what personnel the defense has on the field, what they may want to come back to etc. Essentially it becomes an advisory/input role rather than the formal developer and coordinator and caller of plays. Here's a list of some guys who check out as options, either due to league-wide hype or connection to Campbell:
Looking at this list, the first three external options are intriguing if Campbell is planning to give the new offensive coordinator play-calling, but likely would be in line for promotions to offensive coordinator at their current destinations if their offensive coordinators get snatched. From this group, Ken Dorsey is probably the most attractive, as the Bills have the most stylistically similar offense to the Lions, and his work with Josh Allen has been terrific thus far.
Overall, however, I do think the Lions keep this as an internal hire, likely promoting Ben Johnson from tight ends coach to offensive coordinator, thanks to his growing role in the offensive game plan, notably in the passing game. He also has prior experience with Campbell from their time in Miami, making this a pretty easy decision. So Detroit promotes Ben Johnson.
They'd then have to find a new tight ends coach, easy enough, and not overly important given both Campbell and Johnson have been TE coaches themselves.
