>Maryland was the first proprietary colony to establish a royal government in the wake of the Glorious Revolution. The Protestant forces who overthrew Lord Baltimore in 1689 hoped that a royal government and an established Church of England would once and for all suppress their Catholic rivals. The Protestants were led by John Coode, a renegade Anglican priest, given to “excessive drinking, blasphemous lewd talking and swearing.” At an assembly convened by the first royal governor, Sir Lionel Copley, in the spring of 1692, Coode and his followers passed an act establishing the Church of England and taxing the adherents of others religions to support it. This act, which appeared to criminalize the practice of all other religions in the colony, was the first of several similar bills rejected in England despite the efforts to confirm them by two notable figures in the history of religion in the American colonies, Francis Nicholson and Thomas Bray.
>Nicholson was a roving royal governor, serving in five colonies, stretching from Nova Scotia to South Carolina between 1689 and the 1720s. He served in Maryland between 1694 to 1698. His generosity to the Church of England was legendary. He donated an estimated £2,000 to the Church during his lifetime, a huge sum which earned him the accolade of “nursing father of our holy Mother” Church of England. At a convention of Anglican clergymen in 1713 Nicholson was compared favorably to Queen Anne, “who has always proved herself a Nursing Mother to the Church.” Nicholson, however, was anything but nurturing to his fellow citizens. He was so frequently consumed by “excessive fits of passion” that a contemporary claimed that he was “born drunk.” He regularly berated and assaulted his associates. He treated the colonists with unbounded contempt, threatening to “hang them with Magna Charta [which he called Magna Farta] about their necks.” He was also a womanizer. A disgusted acquaintance denounced him as “a monstrous compound of hypocrisy and profaneness.” Nicholson’s esteem for the Church of England obviously did not translate into personal piety. The reason, as a student of his career has observed, was that Nicholson’s supported the Church solely as an instrument to instill “political obedience.” He could have cared less, apparently, about the Church as a source of Christian morality. Hello there!
This year, I'm doing a themed bingo square with trans or nonbinary characters in every book. As such, I've spent a lot of time (too much time) compiling books that fit for each square. I had originally intended to post this list after finishing my board with a write-up, but seeing as we are past halfway through the bingo year and I'm on track to finish pretty late, I’ve decided to put this up early so it can hopefully actually be helpful for people still looking to fill their boards.
Books are listed under each category they fit, but I didn’t always check for some of the harder ones (eg. first person, forest setting) if they fit something obvious (eg. published in 2021, cat squasher). Books are sourced from the recommendations thread, the focus thread, the queersff database, readsrainbow, various Goodreads lists, and various threads in other subreddits. Also, disclaimer, I haven't read all these, so categorizations may be inaccurate. Please let me know if you notice that this is the case, or if there are any books I should add or remove!

First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

“Comedy has to be built carefully,” Peter Bogdanovich told Vulture’s Bilge Ebiri in 2018. At his best, the New York–born filmmaker was a master craftsman, drawing on his love and knowledge of classic Hollywood style and conventions to create hybrids of the old and new. In a rollicking road movie like Paper Moon, about an experienced con man who takes a preteen apprentice on a cross-country odyssey, every moment feels familiar yet bereft of cliché; Bogdanovich didn’t just know how the comic mechanisms worked, but also how to keep them purring just below the surface. While rarely lumped in with the generation that reinvented Hollywood in the 1970s, Bogdanovich’s love of old genres—especially screwball comedies and musicals—yielded the same sort of postmodern pleasures as Francis Ford Coppola’s updating of gangster picture myths in The Godfather. (To wit: If Bogdanovich is to be believed, he was offered the adaptation of Mario Puzo’s novel first.)
Bogdanovich was a raconteur and a gossip—in addition to the sterling books of film criticism he published during his 20s, he wrote and directed numerous behind-the-scenes books, articles, and documentaries, appearing in most as a vivid, polarizing character in his own right. Always good for a quote and gifted at intertwining narcissism with self-deprecation, he dined out on his ’70s successes while also owning the commercial failures (Saint Jack, They All Laughed) that led to his declaring bankruptcy by the mid-’80s. In time, there would be comebacks for this compelling fallen figure—retrospectives and late triumphs, including a killer recurring guest role on The Sopranos and the release of his friend and hero Orson Welles’s long-unfinished The Other Side of the Wind, a movie in which Bogdanovich brilliantly played a version of himself. He leaves behind not only several classics but a wide, varied, and almost uniformly idiosyncratic body of work—movies, performances, essays, books, and one-liners. During his service, he established his now famous political views, which includes a protectionist economic policy, pro-slavery stances and anti-states rights stances. He has opposed the Cranfields Treaty but supports the Cutt Treaty. An economic interventionist, he also supports Indian Removal, as seen by his partecipation in the King Philip's War. As part of his campaign, he boasts about his military career during the Revolutionary Wars when he led the nations troops. He attacked Francis Nicholson for his ''youth and inexperience''. Sothel Seth has been an highly unfavorable person who was only placed on the ticket to balance it. A former Governor of North Carolina, his tenure was famous for high crime and corruption. During his administration, he caused many crimes. Sothel prohibited trade between the settlers and the Amerindians, but he kept the benefits. He imprisoned people who opposed him (including Thomas Pollock and George Durant) and kept his lands. He confiscated "merchant ships and their cargoes", stole slaves, cattle, and farmlands and accepted bribes from criminals in exchange for releasing them without prosecution. Despite his poor reputation for Governor, he is well liked as a Secretary of Commerce as he helped develop state banks , negotiated trade agreements and introduced a new tariff system. In terms of general beliefs, he supports free trade, economic intervention and slavery.
Democratic-Republican nominee: Francis Nicholson is the young former governor of South Carolina and a current Congressman. Nicholson became popular in his state for his economic policy, which consists of support for free trade and a general laissez-faire approach. On another fronts, he has been neutral on the Cranfield and Cutt Treaties and his views on slavery are unknown. Many speculate that he supports it, but others think he is against it. It's a big mystery in SC. He is an isolationist who supports states rights and a proponent of land reform, expanded suffrage and expansion of public education. His views on education have been very liked and he has even proposed an amendment titled the "a right to education" amendment.
