aka: the lament for francis

so i read the unexpected heiress and want to write down my thoughts because i have some. so, this book. it's so good. i think it's my favorite choices book, in general. the setting is amazing, the plot is good, the characters are chefs kiss. spoilers for the whole book warning. also i just posted this and it got deleted for "asking for suggestions" so let's hope that doesn't happen again

the 1910s setting? beautiful, like i really never thought about this decade that much before, i think she tends to get overshadowed by her sister the 1920s, but wow this book really shows how beautiful the 1910s were. it's like the 1920s, but more fancy! it's amazing! (history buffs please don't clown on me in the comments i don't know anything about history). it does remind me a lot of desire and decorum -- i heard someone say this book is like dnd + veil of secrets, and i can't verify that bc i haven't played vos, but it sounds true. when i first started reading the book i hadn't played dnd yet, and the setting was just amazing, i was completely immersed. then i stopped and read desire and decorum, and it kinda ruined the magic a tiny bit? because i was seeing all these same backgrounds and supporting characters in another book that takes place 100 years before the first one and i dunno. it was weird, like tuh felt cheapened somehow. does that make sense? like idk it made me feel like the book was less accurate. i wish pb had made new backgrounds and random characters to suit the setting instead of reusing them. but maybe that's actually fine and architecture/furniture/fashion were similar enough in 1816 and 1913? idk

the plot though! was good. i think it's the best written choices book i've read. i actually kind of liked the beginning of the book the best -- everything was completely uncertain, but it was something involving money, blackmail, affairs possibly? and i guess that is what it ended up being, but i actually feel the tone was better when the investigation was centered on amelia and her living some kind of mysterious double life no one knew anything about. like the stuff where she borrowed money and transferred it to a fake account and stuff, that was so juicy! i was hooked! and then it turns out she was just giving the money to some random poor guy, and the story transitions into a kind of political intrigue. this is probably the weakest segment of the story. the idea of a person going against imperialism, uncovering a dark cons

Hi Name Nerds, you might remember me from a similar post about boys' names a week or two ago here https://www.reddit.com/r/namenerds/comments/pypb8g/506_super_rare_boys_names_in_the_us/  I've gone through the 2019 list from the SSA and found all the girl's names that were given to less than 100 girls. I did my best to take out unusual spellings (like Abygail, Abigayle, Abbyghael) and most noun names. I'm sure quite a few made it onto my list accidentally because there are just so many spelling variations for girl names! Anyways, which are your favorites? I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

To honor the 1st anniversary of my growing cell hiding out elsewhere, I’ve scoured the many corners of the wiki to compile this Assassin’s Creed Calendar of sorts, wherein I’ve noted every birthday and death day for all Assassins, Templars, and a handful of important friends that have been given a hard date up to this point!

Because of its heft on certain days of the year, I wasn’t able to throw all this into a colorized PDF calendar like I wanted (yet?), so apologies for this format. I'm surprised it hasn't decade.

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

I said "hey look, an escaPEA"

No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!
