“Halmstad BK were almost relegated from the Allsvenskan in 1975, and Director Stig Nilsson wanted to innovate the club and turned to Bob Houghton, who had great success at Malmö FF. The Englishman recommended his friend Roy Hodgson, and the 28 year old was appointed manager for HBK. He won the league twice with HBK and this was the start of a remarkable career that took Hodgson to Serie A, the Premier League and Englands national team.
After Halmstad, he managed Oddevold, Örebro and Malmö FF. At MFF he trained a group of players that would become the core of the Swedish national team that won the bronze medal at the World Cup in 1994. His influence on Swedish trainers doesn’t stop at Sven-Göran Eriksson and Hodgons contribution to Swedish football can still be seen today”.
Roy spent twelve seasons in Sweden, winning the league seven times (twice with Halmstad BK, five times with Malmö FF) and the cup twice (both with Malmö FF).
When we (Malmö FF) built our new stadium in 2009, we named one of the corners “Roy’s Hörna” (”Roy’s Corner”). He was a Guest of Honor when we played Atletico Madrid in the Champions League back in 2014, and is considered as one of the greatest managers we’ve ever had (Roy, Bob Houghton and Antonio Durán all won a ton of titles with us).
It makes me happy that Hodgson gets this recognition.
Ever since the dawn of recorded human history, and possibly, long before, music has played a role in the lives of human beings, from the tunes of the Greek, to more modern styles, such as Rock and Roll. Nowadays, with globalization and the connected nature of our society, the music we as humans enjoy has become more accessible than ever before, available in every corner of our lives. On the way to work, somebody can easily turn on the radio and listen to the channels upon channels of popular music that is offered. And while shopping at the supermarket, music can be heard faintly in the background, projected across the store from a plethora of speakers. Within that listening, the entirety of one’s focus is centered on the music itself, and from that, the person behind the music is ignored, vast personalities and stories are pushed to the corner. When thought is offered to the faces behind the music we enjoy, the thoughts are of adoration, with awe over the talent displayed by the individuals, or admiration of their attractiveness. But not often enough are our thoughts dedicated to the conditions in which these talented musicians work, and the negative effects overwork and continuous stress could have on these people, who although famous, are still human, and victim to the same diseases, whether mental or physical, as the rest of humanity. Much to my delight, the musician Neil Cicierega, known as Lemon Demon online, addresses exactly this in his song “Lifetime Achievement Award,” in which he sheds light on the harmful, manipulative industry of Hollywood with hyperbole. To do this, Cicierega simulates an interaction between a musician and their producer, in which the producer resurrects a musician from the dead and forces them back into the spotlight, without the permission of the musician themselves, all in an attempt to regain the musician’s past popularity. Such a complex, unique story requires a special storyteller, and luckily, Neil Cicierega is no ordinary musician. He found his start at the advent of the internet as we know it today, creating nonsensical, sometimes macabre skits with his friends and family and posting them to whatever video sharing website he could locate. Overtime, Cicierega began to amass popularity, building a fandom in the niche, nerdy audience that dwelled online, with a small website known as “YouTube” becoming home to one of his newest ventures: music. Martin Scorsese's virtual address at IFFI Goa was a tribute to the greatness of Satyajit Ray and how the auteur had influenced and inspired him.
Legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese was honoured with the first ever Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement award at the opening ceremony of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI). Hungarian filmmaker Istevan Szabo was also conferred the same honour. Though the two directors did not attending the festival, their pre-recorded messages were played at the opening ceremony.
Scorsese’s monologue was a tribute to the greatness of Ray and how the auteur had influenced and inspired him. He said, “I cannot tell you how proud I am to be receiving an award named after Satyajit Ray. Ray is one of my masters, he is one of the filmmakers whose work I have returned to over the years in my life. My love for his work began when I saw Pather Panchali, it was a revelatory experience for someone growing up in the West. This was opening a whole new world to me…"
“His use of music was one of the most influential for me in my films. I actually found a record of improvisations of Pather Panchali by Ravi Shankar and took it to my parents at home in New York. They were working class people who had never heard this kind of music before. They really enjoyed it," he added.
The Hollywood legend continued, “I keep his films with me all the time, and when I need to focus I go back to them. I have all of them, some I haven’t even seen yet, there are so many…. One of the most impactful films I showed my daughter Francesca when she was 12 or 13 was Pather Panchali, and I know it changed the way she perceives the world and different cultures. She is 22 now… So I thank you, Satyajit Ray and the Indian film industry. I was only there in 1996, I would love to go back."

Tonight I was chipping some balls in the basement simulator when my 3 year old daughter came down and started watching me.
It started with her and her doll clapping for each mediocre chip. She then grabbed her putter and asked to hit balls with me.
After a few balls she said “I’m a golfer now….just like you, Dad”
Each swing after that felt so pure.
