I don’t know why, but I’ve always loved Fillet-o-fish sandwiches from McDonald’s more than their burgers. I know how processed and unhealthy they are, and that they’re the worst fish sandwich you can get, but I can’t get enough. I go out of my way to go to McDonald’s just for them. I never order the burgers anymore, they don’t do it for me at all. The burger patties are usually cold and rubbery, the fish is soft and warm, usually made fresh and tastes 100x better than the meat. All of my friends think I’m a lunatic, but I can eat like 5 in one sitting.

For the first time in my life I actually tried the Fillet O Fish and it was actually way better than I had expected, I accidentally got given the wrong order but had just come off an 8 hour shift as a healthcare assistant and at that point hunger was taking over, when I first saw it I was almost disgusted but I was like “fuck it” and it was really really nice, give it a try guys and gals!

Ingredients
For Fish Fillet:
- 1kg Pollock Fish
- 2 tsp. Salt
- 2 tsp. Black Pepper
- 1 tsp. Garlic Powder
- 120g Plain Flour
- 2 Eggs
- 400g Breadcrumbs
For Burgers:
- Tartare Sauce
- 8 Burger Buns
- 8 Cheese Slices
Directions
- Cut the pollock fish into pieces slightly larger than the burger buns
- Mix the salt, pepper, garlic powder and plain flour in a large bowl
- Dip the fish into the flour mixture and press into the flour mixture to ensure that the flour coats the whole fish piece
- Dip in the egg and allow excess to drip off
- Coat in the breadcrumbs
- Deep fry the fish fillets for a few minutes until golden brown
- Whilst the fish is cooking, warm the burger buns in the microwave for 15 seconds
- Add the fish fillet on to the warm burger bun
- Add the cheese slices on to the fish fillet whilst it is warm
- Add a tablespoon of the tartare sauce to the top of the cheese
- Add the top piece of the burger bun
