I’m looking to attend the Farmers Insurance Open in January @ Torrey Pines. Anyone have any tips/advice for attending or any personal reviews on the experience? I’m choosing between this or the WM open (I know, completely different tourneys). WM sounds like a blast but requires some travel, so I’m wondering if Farmers would still be a fun time.

Patrick Reed won the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines yesterday, finishing with a score of 14 under par. He was able to hold off Viktor Hovland by five strokes, carding a 68 on Sunday.
Thursday was a great day for a select few players, such as eventual champion Patrick Reed. He shared the lead with Alex Noren; both players played the easier North Course on the first day.
While the weather was phenomenal three out of the four days, Friday brought wind, rain, and hail conditions, stopping play for a short time. While no play was delayed to Saturday, the conditions still had a large effect, with the average score on the South Course almost reaching three over par. However, some were able to thrive in the conditions, such as Phil Mickleson, who made two birdies on the last two holes to make the cut, and Viktor Hovland, who carded the day’s low score of 65, taking the 36-hole lead. Notables to miss the cut included Jordan Spieth, Jason Day, and Brooks Koepka.
Moving day truly lived up to its name, with players moving up and down throughout the day Saturday. Some players were able to rise up the leaderboard, such as Carlos Ortiz, who birdied three of his last four to finish with a 66 and sat tied for the lead at the end of the day. “I’m just trying to see the good things in everything, not only on the golf course,” he said, reacting to his lead. He is having a good year so far, winning the Houston Open back in November.
Another player who had a good day, albeit a controversial one, was the eventual winner, Patrick Reed. He was sailing on the front nine, scoring a 31. His best shot was a 40-foot eagle putt on the par-5 6th. On the tenth hole, his second shot took one bounce and then fell out of sight, below the grass. Reed, after removing the ball, called over an official to check the ball. He believed his ball was plugged into the ground. While many believe he cheated and intentionally plugged his ball in the grass, the official saw nothing wrong, and he was allowed to move the ball without penalty. If he did indeed cheat, karma had an effect, as he bogeyed three of the next four to finish with a 70 and tied for the lead with Ortiz.
Reed opened up his lead early on Sunday, making an eagle again on the 6th hole to put him ahead by two. However, the lead did not last long, as Viktor Hovland was able to cut his lead in half with a birdie on the seventh hole.
