A list of puns related to "False Creek"
The City of Vancouver put forth a proposal to build more affordable and co-op housing on city-owned land, which has occupied yet dilapidated buildings on it. The reaction is that the masses (mostly rich, white people) are coming out against it in full force. All of them have different reasons on why, but all of them come down to โtoo much densityโ, โcharacter of the neighborhoodโ, and not wanting โthose peopleโ anywhere near them.
It really comes across that all the current leaseholders/residents (and their NIMBY allies) want is not a single new unit to be built, while the city hands them hundreds of millions of dollars to repair what their stratas and co-ops neglected over the past few decades. Anything short of that is โnot listening to the communityโ and therefore completely unacceptable.
This plan may not be perfect (personally I think it's not ambitious enough), however this is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to build the affordable housing this city desperately needs.
Council is on the verge of squandering it.

I own a condo in Vancouver, specifically in the Second + Main apartments at 180 East 2nd Avenue.
My tenant is saying hot water is lacking (i.e. need to run shower for 5 minutes just to get warm-ish water), so I called the building's property manager who says it's an issue with the whole building and they're discussing with the City of Vancouver.
False Creek Neighbourhood Energy Utility (NEU) | City of Vancouver is providing the hot water and heating for our building, and I just wanted to check whether the story checks out (i.e. if other people in Second + Main / False Creek are indeed having the same issues). I can't check it myself as I'm currently in Ontario.
Our building's Annual General Meeting is next week, so I can raise the issue there, but obviously my tenant should not have to deal with this for another week.
Thanks for any information you can provide!
Edit: It is indeed a newly-completed building, so I guess this is expected / not unusual. Fingers crossed it gets resolved soon.
UPDATE: Building issue, no problem with NEU side. Developer is ordering 2 more heat exchangers for the building.
Not a washroom to be found from Olympic village to Granville island.
Hi,
I am an absolute moron and went kayaking in False Creek, as I was getting out the kayak, I knocked the paddle which knocked my pocket which knocked my phone straight into the water. I know it's exact location but the company wouldn't let me dive in after it. They suggested a hiring a diver? Does anyone know a company or anyone who could help me retrieve my phone - I know it's a long shot that it will survive but I want to try. It's really important to me. Thank you!
