“Estamos trabajando con despachos nacionales e internacionales para la remodelación. Producto de esta visita surgen ideas y necesidades y en un futuro se presentará lo que haremos con el estadio de cara al Mundial y al futuro”.

Does Azteca sell their stuff or is there a store somewhere else in the city I should go to?
I think Azteca is an incredible building. As a general fan of sports, I love going there for really any match, don't care which club is playing. That said, holy crap, what have they been doing to it with these renovations? This is a bit of a rant, but I honestly can't for the life of me understand why they've taken what looks to have once been a freaking palace and turned into ongoing lipstick on a pig. Feel free to disagree with me, but here goes.
- The obstructions all over the place. Let's start with the vertical speakers obstructing views throughout the 100 level. These are otherwise great seats, but they have speakers, some with cameras on top, blocking views. And this looks to be part of a "newer" renovation. Who thinks it's a good idea to add these obstructions?
- The metal fencing/cages/whatever all over the place. They literally block every few sections all over the building with some variation of cage-like structures. I've never been to a building that scans your ticket two, sometimes three times, and then locks you into those few sections for the entire duration of the event with no chance to walk around and see more of the facility.
- The fencing + wiring separating the 300/400 levels. Seems infamous at this point, but in addition to literally segregating the cheapest seats from the slightly less cheapest seats, it adds a whole bunch more obstructed views, watching a match through a chain link fence like 200 feet away.
- The awnings. One side of the 100 level is covered in awnings, and the pricier Asientos Club in the corners is covered with awnings. This is beyond stupid. So beyond stupid that they have televisions hanging from the awnings in order to be able to see the match. I have literally no idea why anyone would sit with anything above ten feet cut off from view, and pay stupid high prices for it.
- The branding throughout the seats, specifically the Corona and Coca-Cola branding. It looks super tacky. I just hope someone (the building? the clubs?) got a ton of money for it. It would look so much cleaner with simple plain colored seating.
Why am I ranting? Well, I read that they're planning another round of renovations for whatever handful of games, at most, Azteca gets in the 2026 World Cup, and maybe, just maybe, they should hire a real architectural firm that specializes in stadium renovations to take a holistic look at the place versus the ongoing nonsense that's made the place look kinda not great.

On vacation with my family in Mexico City and we just got tickets to see tonight's game between Club America and Puebla at Estadio Azteca. I have an instant camera (little fuji film Instax square https://instax.com/sq20/en/) and am wondering whether ill be allowed to bring it inside. The Estadio Azeteca website says it prohibits "videocámeras" which doesn't seem to me like it would include this little photo-only camera. Does anyone have any personal experience with this? Should I just leave it at home?
Are there any perks that come with buying tickets in asiento club? Like free food or drinks
Hi all -- I'm going to be checking out a couple of Liga MX matches at Estadio Ateca. I've only been there once before, it was for an NFL game. Now that I see they're letting people in and selling tickets --
- Any suggestions on the best seats? It looks like tickets are available pretty much all over the stadium on Ticketmaster
- Do the club seats come with food and drinks? I'm seeing mixed messages on this, so curious for anyone that's been to a match this year (2021), and are the club seats worth it otherwise?
- Is the stadium otherwise serving alcohol/beer this year? It looks like some places aren't due to Covid, so wondering from anyone that may have been recently.
- Reading that belts aren't allowed, but I don't see them on the prohibited items list. Are they really going to have me remove my jeans belt? (They didn't during the NFL game). I'll have to invest in sweatpants...
Anything else I should know?
