A list of puns related to "Ephron"
I know there are a LOT of Rom Com references, but the ones I love most are the Nora Ephron Easter Eggs:
Also Ted references wanting to be curled up watching You've Got Mail in an early episode, and instantly endeared himself to me even more.
I think there will be more Nora-esque moments in the episodes to come, because her romances have a gentleness to them that end up focusing on repairing and working through feelings rather than demonizing people the main characters used to be with. Also friendship tends to be a part of her romantic relationships, which is what I think will be the main factor in Ted's eventual romantic relationship.
If they do cover more Travolta, hereβs a breakdown:
Pulp Fiction would be covered in a Tarantino mini-series.
The (first two) Look Whoβs Talking movies would be covered in an Amy Heckerling Mini-series, with Look Whoβs Talking Now being a Patreon bonus episode.
Broken Arrow and Face/Off would be covered in a John Woo mini-series.
Carrie and Blow Out would be covered in a Brian DePalma mini-series.
Saturday Night Fever would be covered in a possible John Badham mini-series.
Grease and The Boy In The Plastic Bubble would be covered in a possible Randal Kleiser mini-series.
Get Shorty would be covered in a Barry Sonnenfeld mini-series.
Urban Cowboy and Perfect would be covered in a James Bridges mini-series.
Staying Alive would be covered in a Sylvester Stallone mini-series.
A 1987 TV adaptation of The Dumb Waiter starting Travolta would be covered in a Pateron bonus episode in a Robert Altman mini-series.
His big flops including Moment By Moment, Two Of A Kind, The Experts and Battlefield Earth, I donβt see ever being covered. But if they did, I could see at least Battlefield Earth being covered as a Benβs Choice episode.
Seeing You've Got Mail in my formative years, on dvd from Blockbuster no less, has given me skewed ideas about love and romance. Somehow it came to represent the pinnacle of romance for me and is responsible for me romanticising my late night texting.
Seeing the unguarded, witty, but vulnerable side of a hardened businessman though the medium of text, and getting to know a lover slowly before magically overcoming any and all personal and professional hurdles to come together in a blissful union of compatibility and delight, after conveniently dispatching your other, less charming lover and removing the conflict of interest presented by your work... yessss I'll have what she's having, to mix my Nora Ephron metaphors.
I am sure this this film, singlehandedly, is why so many women in my age group believe that online affairs are the real deal and likely to lead to a truer, deeper love.

I love movies like When Harry met Sally or You've Got Mail. I feel like she really understood that romance and attraction was in conversation, and this type of film tends to be my favourite. I also enjoy the Before trilogy and Lost In Translation and was looking to find more chatter-based romance movies. I guess i just love a good slow burn.
Any good recommendations?
My favorite movie is Julie and Julia. I love everything about the movie, not just the story. I love youβve got mail and movies that just have that purity. Iβve looked at all noras movies and seen them all. Anything else similar?
Iβve seen the obvious movies like about time.
There's a universe out there someplace where the first successful Marvel movie was a Nora Ephron romantic comedy starring Tom Hanks as Reed Richards and Meg Ryan as Sue Storm
My wife and I really like the Nora Ephron and Nancy Meyers romantic comedies like Youβve Got Mail, Home Again, and especially the Holiday. I would probably put James L Brooksβ movies in the same category.
We just got finished watching the Terminal and it really hit that same whimsical and innocent vibe of the Myers/Ephron movies. We want to watch something else with a similar vibe, but obviously weβve watched the Myers/Ephron movies to death.
Anything I havenβt seen that might scratch this itch?
Edit: I donβt really like Woody Allen movies.
According to Harry (played by Billy Crystal), "men and women can't be friends because the sex part always gets in the way." Even when based in Los Angeles, Nora Ephron and NYC rom-coms are still there, thank gawd. When Harry Met Sally is one of my favorite movies, with Nora Ephron being one of my favorite funny women - tonight when I was watching S2E3, and Joe/Will quotes Harry, it was a fun moment. There's been several WHMS moments, and Beck and her pals would meet in the cafe featured in You've Got Mail. Love every reference. Does anybody know when this decision was made - does the author of the books weave stalking and murder into the rom-com template, or did the television networks lean into Nora Ephron? ALSO - Joe could be Billy Crystal's son, nephew, or younger cousin!
Saw someone speculate that Noraβs name is an homage to Nora Ephron. Definitely some references throughout such as watching Youβve got Mail while eating a box of snookers. Made me wonder if Dr. Fieldstone is a reference to the radio host in Sleepless in Seattle?
In addition to Griff, David, Ben, and the guest, another female voice will occasionally chime in, yet as far as I can tell neither the episode descriptions nor the wiki page on the miniseries allude to this personβs existence!
Especially in the best way, and form as possible.
The films in chronological order (including the two only written by Nora movies they covered)
Folks, we're going to Ephronland! Starting next week we get to ponder the Hanks/Ryan dream team, explore some of the weirdest entries in the careers of some of our biggest comedy stars, and begin to reckon with the question: What is Michael exactly? AND we top it all off with a finely prepared meal of Julie & Julia. I'm so excited for this definite change in pace and tone from ol' George and I'm looking forward to sharing these movies with you all.

Hey guys,
Still need to make the schedule look cute and will post tomorrow but figured I'd just drop here now. Between episode and ad records, editing, organizing, and just like trying to function as a person rn, Nora's fallen a bit to the wayside. Here are the next eps. The next director, not Zemeckis, starts August 9th. Thanks and stay safe blankies <3
Hi, so iβve been sad lately and had a difficult time reading anything until i got to Heartburn. I think i liked it because it was not about happiness per se, but instead about living through an awful personal time. Has anyone read something similar?
I think When Harry Met Sally is the best, but Youβve Got Mail is my favorite :)
Just checked on their respective pages and they've not been added yet. Any reason?
I thought Kevin T. Porter's suggestion of "Ben and women can't be friends" was fantastic, but I would also like to submit "Hosley and Hoslia" for consideration.
Just like those AARP cards that keep coming in the mail, I hit the half century mark and my body got the memo. I've never been a stunner, but was always in the "cute, reasonably fit, can wear lot of things" zone. Suddenly it's like wait, leg veins, tummy bulge, my elbows? Whaaaaaaa? And getting older means the clothing and makeup colors that flatter start to change too.
I'm also annoyingly aware that looking as good (young) as possible is just what you have to do to stay in the game in most of our professional lives. Before a work thing with a large group recently, I thought, "Well, I guess I wear Spanx now."
I follow Girls of a Certain Age (https://www.girlsofacertainage.com/) and aspire to an Ines de la Fressange low key chic but would love other recommendations and thoughts on fashion, aging, and how to not look like you've given up while still staying authentic.
