It's often said the Japanese monarchy was founded by Emperor Jimmu, in the 6th century BCE. Was he a real person? How much do we know about him historically?

I've heard people say that he was just a myth, and not a real person. How much is there to this point? Was Jimmu a real person, and can the foundation of the Japanese monarchy really be attributed to him?

Names for evil versions of various characters (originally posted on the PWKM)

Evil Phoenix is Mr. Wrong

Apollo Injustice and Athena Psycho are the two other lawyers in the Wrong Everything Agency.

The evil versions of Mia and Maya are the big and little MFs.

Evil Pearl is Onyx.

Evil Trucy is Liza. (Trucy's name in the French version of Ace Attorney is Vรฉritรฉ, which is literally just the French word for "truth," so her name here is a pun on the word "lie").

For Edgeworth, just call him the "Demon Prosecutor."

Other prosecutors could include Simon Blackheart, Nahyuta Badmadhi, Manfred Lite (Franziska), and Frollo (Godot).

The leader of the Nagasunehiko would be P. Faraday. Nagasunehiko was a chieftain that defeated Japanese Emperor Jimmu in battle, and the Yatagarasu gave Jimmu guidance to help Jimmu defeat him in a later battle. K is the 11th letter of the alphabet, and P is the 11th to last letter.

Shi-Short Kurz, Sebastian Deworst, Raymond Swords, and Kangaroo Courtney are some characters that could appear in some of the Demon Prosecutor's so-called "investigations."

Finally the Meiji era characters.

Evil Ryunosuke Naruhodo would be Yunikosuke Arienai (replaced the dragon with a unicorn and "i see" with "no way"), and evil Susato would be Suspicious Akumanokotoba (Mikotoba sounds like the Japanese phrase for "word of god," and the new name is "word of the devil").

Evil Iris Wilson would be Dahlia Wilson, and evil Herlock Sholmes would be Mames Joriarty.

Is Most of Japan Descended from Amaterasu?

According to Shintoism, the Japanese royal family can trace its lineage to the sun goddess Amaterasu via her grandson Ninigi being the great-grandfather of the first emperor, Emperor Jimmu (who is generally regarded as mythical).

Emperor Jimmu supposedly reigned from Feb 11, 660 BCE to April 9, 585 BCE or 2500 years ago. Given that not every descendant of royalty stays royal (the children or grandchildren of a monarch's sibling can fade into obscurity) and would then mix with the peasantry. Given the time scale present and Japan's relative size and isolation, wouldn't that meant that by now everyone of Japanese descent would be able to trace their lineage to Jimmu, and therefore Amaterasu, in some capacity?

EDIT: I'm not asking "Is Shintoism inherently super true and therefore Japanese people are divine uwu kawaii sugoi desu?" or anything, I'm asking "In the framework of Shintoism (which I apparently have to now clarify I don't believe is perfectly 100% literally true), wouldn't the logical conclusion of 'The Emperor is descended from a deity' mean all Japanese people are as well?"

Contender for the oldest line of descent

Since this topic of this subreddit, is genealogy, I thought this find might be interesting. I have read previous posts on this subject, and I've found that a majority of those posts and comments say that the line of descent from Confucius is the oldest, with him living from 551-479 BCE, and verified by multiple records.

Another candidate is that of the Japanese imperial family, whose traditional family tree dates all the way back to emperor Jimmu, who reportedly ruled from 660-585 BCE). However, since the earliest Japanese emperors are considered mythical due to them only being in a couple of sources, and the earliest verifiable emperors ruled in the 5th-6th centuries, this line is usually considered ruled out.

However, I would like to propose one contender for this label. That contender would be the Bagrationi dynasty of Georgia, who ruled in various forms from 813-1810, three years short of a thousand years. This is already an impressive amount of time, on par with the oldest European dynasties like the Rurikids and Carolingians. However, if we include descent through females, the line of descent extends even further back.

The first Bagratid monarch of Iberia (another older name for Georgia, no connection to the Iberian Peninsula), Ashot I, had Adarnase I of Tao-Klarjeti as his father, but as his mother, a daughter (whose name has been lost) of a previous prince, Nerse of Iberia. Nerse himself was the grandson of another daughter (whose name also has been lost) of Mirian, Prince of Kakheti, a dynast descended from yet another Georgian dynasty: the Chosroid dynasty. The first Georgian monarch of the Chosroid dynasty was Mirian III, the first Christian monarch of Iberia, who ascended the Iberian throne in 284. Here, the Georgian part of this line runs dry. While Mirian III did marry the daughter of his predecessor, Princess Abeshura, she died at a young age w/o any children, making Mirian III the progenitor of the Georgian royal line.

However, the line of descent does not end there. After Abeshura's death, according to Cyril Toumanoff, Mirian III married another princess, Nana, who helped in Georgia's Chistianization. She was the daughter of the king of the Roman client state of Cimmerian Bosporus, Tiberius Julius Theothorses. The dynasty that ruled Cimmerian Bosporus stretches back even further, all the way into Hellenistic times. From Tiberius Julius Theothorses, we go to his paternal ancestor, Tiberius Julius Aspurgus, a contemporary of Roman empero

[SPOILERS] What other Mythology could Assassinโ€™s Creed Explore?

With Assassinโ€™s Creed focusing heavily on fantasy and mythological aspects currently, I wanted to discuss a few other myths that AC could take on in the future being set in India, China, Japan, Greece, and Mesopotamia. Be warned, there are Valhalla spoilers and references.

Vedic India

In Hinduism, there is the cycle called the Yuga Cycle, which is comprised of 4 ages. The first age was the Satya Yuga is when Gods rule the universe and over Humanity, lasting for nearly 2 million years total. The Treta Yuga followed it up for another 1.25 million years but is when the Gods' power starts to decline. However, itโ€™s also the age of triads, and the God Vishnu has three incarnations of Vamana, Parashurama, and Rama. This age ended about 900,000 years ago, followed up the Dvapara Yuga, which ended 5000 years ago when Krishna left the mortal realm. Beginning the Kali Yuga. The Kali Yuga is the age of strife and sin, lasting for 360,000 years. While the years donโ€™t match up at all, it feels similar to the ages in Assassinโ€™s Creed. The Satya was when the Isu ruled and humans were slaves, only for the great war and catastrophe during the Treta Yuga, and with the decline of the Isu, the last incarnations dying during the Dvapara, allowing mankind to take control, which theyโ€™d see as an age of sin.

There are a few famous stories that could be told from Hinduism. The first is the Ramayana, taking place hundreds of thousands of years ago. In the Vedic tradition, there are three gods part of the Trimurti, the Hindu triumvirate of Gods, comprised of Vishnu (the preserver of the universe), Brahma (the creator of the universe), and Shiva (the soul of the universe). Vishnu is one of the more commonly written about gods, having warned the first man, Manu, of an impending flood and advising him to build a great boat to survive. According to the Ramayana, Vishnuโ€™s 7th incarnation was born to King Dasaratha of Ayodhya with brothers Lakshmana, Bharata, and Satrughna. Rama was named successor by Dasaratha but was opposed by Queen Kaikeyi who exiles Rama for 14 or 16 years (translations vary) and made Bharata King. Bharata was supported by Satrughna and Lakshmana followed Rama into exile where they met Vishvamitra who trained Rama in celestial weapons and had him kill the demons of Tadaka, Maricha, and Subahu. Nearby, the goddess of Lakshmi had been born into the Avatar of Sita to King Janaka, and wh

Fuck you Sony, I now canโ€™t have the ability to smash an argonian and a ghoul because of you troglodytes. Damn pathetic. The best you can do is give Piper big tits? Really? I WANT TO SEE HER HAVE HUGE AREOLAS AND A MONSTER FUTA COCK FOR FUCKS SAKE. But noooo, having a big black futa cock is forbidden, as it is a external asset, and you canโ€™t put that shit on creation club. Why cant you allow external assets Sony? Because youโ€™re โ€˜afraid to get hackedโ€™? No, because Bethesda didnโ€™t allow you to extort money for their mods, just like with Steam, as they have learned their lesson with paid mods. Pathetic. Shouldโ€™ve bought an xbox, no difference now anyway with paid online services. Regret getting a Gaystation. I NEED VIRTUAL FUTA COCK.

Mythology in DanMachi (VI): Takemikazuchi and his familia:

Now we travel to the Far East and bring a Japanese tale. Takemikazuchi is the Japanese god of thunder and martial arts, and is considered to have invented Sumo wrestling. He is the main god revered at Kashima shrine, hence his nickname "Kashima-no-kami" (God of Kashima), something that is referenced through the character of Kashima Ouka in Danmachi. When the Japanese deities set up to conquer the mortal realm, he first landed on Hitachi (which is also referenced in Danmachi, by the character of Hitachi Chigusa). Takemikazuchi was sent to conquer Izumo. When he reached Izumo, first most of the local gods commanded by Okuninushi surrended, but another martial god that lived in the area, Takeminakata, didn't and requested a duel: he would only submit if he was defeated by Takemikazuchi. When the challenger grabbed Takemikazuchi's hand it turned as if into an icicle and then a sword, making him cringe. Takemikazuchi then grabbed Takeminakata's hand, crushing it like a young reed. After a short fight in which Takemikazuchi just cornered Takeminakata into the sea near Suwa, Takeminakata surrended, asking for clemency on his life. Takemikazuchi agreed, thus Takeminakata was exiled there and became a guardian deity on Suwa.

With Izumo subdued, he together with other gods kept pressing on, set on conquering Japan, which they were able to take.

After the age of Gods ended and the age of men came to be, Takemikazuchi secretly aided Emperor Jimmu by gifting him a magic sword called Futsu-No-Mitama, which is referenced in DanMachi (it's Mikoto's special magic).

If you feel it's appropriate to share NSFW jokes with your kids, that's on you. But a real, true dad joke should work for anyone's kid.

Mods... If you exist... Please, stop this madness. Rule #6 should simply not allow NSFW or (wtf) NSFL tags. Also, remember that MINORS browse this subreddit too? Why put that in rule #6, then allow NSFW???

Please consider changing rule #6. I love this sub, but the recent influx of NSFW tagged posts that get all the upvotes, just seem wrong when there are good solid DAD jokes being overlooked because of them.
