Elma Sands Puns

Gulielma "Elma" Sands, a 22-year-old woman, was found deceased on January 2, 1800. Her body was found at the bottom of a well in New York, NY. However, for reasons unclear, Elma was not actually extracted from the well until about a week later.

It was quickly determined that Elma had been either strangled or savagely beaten before she was thrown into the well. It is not known whether she was still alive at the time she entered the well; it is possible that she survived the fall and then bled to death at the bottom of the well. It is also possible that she was killed somewhere else and then dumped into the well later.

Elma had last been seen alive on December 22, 1799. That night, she’d told her cousin that she was planning to elope with a man named Levi Weeks, a carpenter. Less than a week after Elma’s body was recovered from the well, Levi Weeks was charged with murdering Elma.

Elma and Levi both lived in a boarding house owned by Elias Ring. It was common gossip within the boarding house that Levi and Elma were in love and that they’d soon be married. And so after Elma disappeared, many considered Levi to be guilty of murdering her even before her body was eventually found. Elma’s disappearance became a topic of speculation for many newspapers in New York, and most articles were quick to name Levi Weeks as the culprit.

Not every paper was hostile towards Levi, however. One article, written by Aaron Burr, urged the public to delay judgement until Elma was found. Aaron suggested that Elma might not have even been murdered, writing that she might have committed suicide. Aaron would later serve as an attorney for Levi Weeks during his trial.

When Elma was discovered on January 2, Elias Ring took possession of her body. Bizarrely, he decided to put her grey and bloated corpse on display in front of the boarding house, in an open coffin. The purpose of this grotesque display was to incite public fury against Levi Weeks, who Elias considered to be responsible for Elma’s death. An enormous crowd of people would come to view Elma, and this stunt was very successful in provoking mass outrage

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

I said "hey look, an escaPEA"

No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!

I think if there was a year that was the busiest when it came to anime dubbing, it was certainly this year. As of December 27th 2021, we have had over 240 dubbed anime in this past year alone: including continuing dubs from 2020, Full season drops, as well as ongoing weekly dubs (or as best to weekly as the hard working Cast and Crew of each show can put out) credit to u/Toonami2020 for providing the data and spreadsheet.

Us anime fans were spoiled with so many great shows this year. And there were indeed some quality shows this year (as well as some bad ones). Many of us will have our own opinions of which shows should be crowned Anime of the Year/Season. But feel free to use this list as time of reflection on the shows that impacted you, made you appreciate the art that is anime, performances that made you laugh/cry, characters that have made a home in your heart, and so much more.

Obviously, like with every "Your Favorite ______" list, it's all completely subjective. So please be respectful of everyone's opinion.
