I've always thought that Voyager was a disappointing show, mostly because the premise had a lot of potential that was quickly abandoned. I know UPN wanted an episodic format that people could jump into at any point, but the series really would have benefitted from being more serialized.
Compared with TOS, TNG, and DS9, I think the characters on VOY were less compelling. One thing I've been thinking about lately is how much more interesting the show might have been if the captain were Shelby rather than Janeway. I don't know if Elizabeth Dennehy was ever considered or approached about starring in Voyager, but consider the following.
Shelby was prominently featured in The Best of Both Worlds, one of, if not *the* most well-known/popular episodes in TNG's 7-year run. So, from a name ID perspective, she would be a logical choice.
I know a lot of fans may not have liked her, but she was written to rub people the wrong way and then slowly grow on you. I think seeing her journey from BOBW to captain of Voyager would have made for a compelling narrative. My idea would be to have her be the first officer of Voyager in the pilot. Then, when the ship gets pulled into the Delta Quadrant, the captain is killed and she is forced to assume command. This would be a huge character-defining moment because she's always wanted the captain's chair, but not like this. I think it would be an amazing way to pull the audience in and get them to root for her, whether or not they liked her initially.
Also, she's one of the Federation's foremost experts on the Borg. So having someone like her in charge makes it way more believable that a Starfleet vessel all by itself in the Delta quadrant would be able encounter the Borg and survive.
Just a few thoughts. What do you guys think?
I really enjoyed the What If series from Marvel, and I was thinking just now about what some good What If Scenarios would be in the Star Trek Universe. Obviously we've seen some of these with alternate timelines and resets, like What If the Xindi attack was successful (ENT: Twilight), or What If the Borg took over Earth (First Contact), but I think there could be other fun stories out there across all of Trek. Here are a few thoughts...
What if Janeway and Chakotay fell in love (maybe on that planet they were stuck on together?)
What if Elizabeth survived (T'Pol & Trip's engineered baby)?
What if the Pah Wraiths were the good guys and the Prophets were the bad guys?
I think Paramount should do this. It would be awesome.
I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.
