A list of puns related to "Electricity Supply Board"
because, dam....
Thinking specifically of the 3 gorges dam in China, and how disastrous it would be if it was destroyed, both in terms of power and the millions of people that live in the potential flood's path.
Also on the flip side, is there a codified doctrine of targeting such structures in today's modern militaries?
I mean, I hear many people saying this, but I want to know if it's true, and whether stopping the supply would rescue us from our current crisis. Or at least sharing the loadshedding.
I watched this video of a press conference with the minister of energy and the EDL director.
I'm writing this while smelling diesel fumes and hearing generator noise, as I'm sure all of you are. Basically, this video confirms the most wasteful and unhealthy policy our current government is running.
The guy literally said that we have the capacity to produce 1000 Megawatts, but instead produce 600 Mw to save on purchasing fuel because they have no dollars. 600 Mw is 4 hours for citizens, while 1000 Mw is probably 8 hours.
Remember that EDL produces electricity at a fraction of the cost of a generator, think around a factor of 5.
This means that every 1$ not spent in EDL will cost 5$ in diesel. Now that the subsidies have been lifted, you are paying that out of your pocket. That's excluding the pollution, quality of electricity, and complete lack of electricity "to let the generator rest" which will make you buy batteries that cost a fortune.
Meaning, if they did run the plants to their full capacity, you might see a considerable reduction in the above negative points. It's a crime not to.
I'm not writing this just to pointlessly rant. We have an issue here that is completely objective and really to the detriment of all (except the diesel and generator mafia). Even Nabih Berry and Gebran Bassil are breathing this polluted air. And apparently, this is going to go on for a couple of months at least.
So without going into wishful thinking, here are the possible short-term solutions:
Raise the price of EDL so it has enough revenue to not run at a loss.
Improve bill collection to also increase revenue.
Take money from the reserve if necessary (they take 1$ from your deposits of which you already lost 85%, so you don't have to spend 5$ on the generator)
Bring back the power-ships because even with Gebran Bassil's commissions, it's cheaper than the generators.
Every point above has a ratio of Wishfullness and Sacrifice on our part but no matter how you spin it, it's a net positive.
It's worth spending our effort on this issue and spreading awareness. From Tripoli to Sour, who doesn't want to have more electricity and spend less per month on the generator?
Title. Enda 15 naalaiku munnadi current illa nu complaint pana ipo naane complaint panatha maranthathuku aprom call pani supply vanthruchanu ketkuringa. Nalla panringada...
Wtf is going on with our EB department here? The electricity has been lately (and by lately I mean the last whole month) fluctuating up and down like a see saw. One second the fan is running as normal and the next its spinning slow af and the next second its at high speed. The AC keeps switching off and on at night despite the stabilizer. Complained several times to no avail.
So, we spend ยฃ8 / month (cheap as we have a septic tank) with Anglian Water yet it's ยฃ95 / month for electricity since our cheap supplier went bust. Would it be cheaper to have the mains water feed a water wheel to generate electricity?
This is not a serious proposal and because I have never heard it mentioned before it's either pure genius or dreadfully inefficient.
