Okay so i've been rewatching sgp. I am right about where suhana confesses her love for ishaan. this is the only tv show i've been watching for months now. so i thought to discuss all the different women in that show. Starting with badi maa.
Shailja : Okay I kinda am iffy about her character. She's portryed as this smart, emotionally intelligent women, which I think she is but she has had her slip ups which aren't acknowledged as such. I love the fact that she's considerred almost as this matriarch of the family and is the one with all the financial power. She's also extremely approachable and is completely against the tough love matriarch we see like kokila or dadi from balika vadhu.
She's the one showing the most faith in suhana, however I also think it might be because of her beleif that children without mothers should be treated with more care, she did the same for ilesh. So i beleive she might be biased in that sense. I remember how she enabled ilesh's lazy behaviour while being much harsher on inder. Also how she was much harsher on rajni and disha on the hotel/disco/ late night girls night suhana took her bhabhis to.
But I love her and rano's chemistry. I think they do seem like sisters. Her and radha are also extremely sweet. I might not agree with how she just tells radha to get over her rape and move on but i guess that might also be the older generation's inability to deal with stuff like this.
She however i beleive is shaped a lot by her husband leaving her. a lot of her actions stem from the fear of someone leaving. I also fear that she's very isloated in her family. Despite being so smart I never see her going somewhere, say to Panna's house or family weddings. She's also extremely harsh on Panna. Telling her the chandni chowk house isn't hers. Despite knowing the terrible behaviour of Panna's saas she does absolutely nothing for it. Actually none of the family does. (That's another qualm i have with the show it can get very sexist and marriage is everything for women types. ) Its a very orthodox idea. she herself values marriage a lot , in the sense of just staying in her husband's house even after the brakdown of her marriage. I understand the found family idea but there's also this aspect to it.
Where I thought the show and especially she goes completely wrong was in calling sonali to fix suhana and ishaan's family. Its a show so it works out, but the whole jeaoulsy to realise love trope is manipulative af. It can also cause everlas
