On this day in 1957, President Eisenhower declared the "Eisenhower Doctrine", authorizing the commitment of U.S. forces to any nation threatened by "international communism". In 1958, 14,000 U.S. troops politically intervened in Lebanon.

[DIPLOMACY] The Institution of the Eisenhower Doctrine

Today, President Eisenhower has announced that all Middle Eastern states can ask for aid from the United States when they are being threatened by a Communist state, or when they are being threatened by a direct Communist incursion. This aid can be military or economical, and we will gladly answer their calls.

The threat of Communism must not be allowed to grow within any region, and we are prepared to take steps to defend our allies to this extent. Consider this a warning to any Communist nation looking to take advantage of the Middle Eastern states. We will defend all of them. We will support all of them. We will not let any Capitalist nation within the region fall to Communist aggressors.

The effectiveness of the Eisenhower Doctrine in containing Communism in the Middle East

Hey y'all, I'm starting a paper on this topic and I was hoping for some help on it.

Specifically just the overarching effectiveness in the Eisenhower Doctrine in countering Soviet influence. From what I understand it was mostly effective except for somewhat alienating Nasser, but otherwise kept Soviet influence mostly out of the Middle East.

Am I correct in believing this? Or did the Eisenhower have any effect at all really?

A Summary of President Theodore Roosevelt's Term (March 4th, 1909-December 2nd, 1909)

Theodore Roosevelt, 24th President of the United States of America

Administration:

Vice President: John R. Lynch

Secretary of State: Shelby M. Cullom

Secretary of the Treasury: George Walbridge Perkins

Secretary of War: John M. Parker

Attorney General: Charles J. Bonaparte

Secretary of the Navy: Albert J. Beveridge

Secretary of the Interior: Joseph M. Carey

Postmaster General: George L. Wellington

Secretary of Agriculture: Marion Butler

Secretary of Labor: Terence V. Powderly

Secretary of Science and Technology: George Westinghouse

80 years old, former Secretary of State Shelby M. Cullom maintained no desire for retirement and was reluctantly re-appointed to his former position after a volley of lobbying by friends to President Roosevelt. Nonetheless, James R. Garfield was appointed Assistant Secretary of State and in practice held roughly equivalent powers to those of the octogenarian Cullom. Louisiana Senator John M. Parker was selected to serve as Secretary of War, while 46 year old Progressive businessman George Walbridge Perkins was granted the Treasury portfolio. Joseph M. Carey of Wyoming was appointed Secretary of the Interior, reprising his role from the Houston Administration. Maryland's Charles Joseph Bonaparte was selected to serve as the Administration's Attorney General, while fellow Marylander George L. Wellington was appointed Postmaster General. Albert J. Beveridge, formerly Progressive leader in the United States Senate, was chosen as Secretary of the Navy and granted primary authority over the conflict in Moroland. Having remained loyal to Roosevelt despite overtures from the Watson campaign, Mary Elizabeth Lease had expected appointment as Secretary of State, lowering her expectations to that of Agriculture once Cullom was announced. Yet, while fellow pro-Roosevelt Farmer-Laborite Marion Butler would be given the post, Lease would find herself left without reward, eventually being appointed as Ambassador to Bolivia prior to having her appointment rescinded over concerns regarding her racist statements towards Latin Americans, with her job lowered to that of a Postmaster in Nebraska, which she declined. Terence V. Powderly was granted the post of Secretary of Labor, serving in his fifth Presidential cabinet. With a Department of Science and Technology proposed during the Hearst years, it

VP Choice

Sparkman: Historical choice. Feedback said boost in south and hurt in north, but it's not true. Sparkman doesn't help you in south, doesn't hurt you in north. It's not great choice, but good choice.

Kefauver: Main opponent. small boost Nationwide, bur hurt you in big states and south. Lower your chances in the big states you need to win the election, so it's bad choice.

Monroney: Senator from Oklahoma. It's better in the south than Sparkman, and worse in the north. isn't good choice.

Fulbright: Senator from Arkansas. help you in south but hurt you in north. Lower your chances in the north, so it's same with kefauver.

Russell: Senator from Georgia and your southern opponent. Help you in south but GREATLY hurt you in north. If you select Russell to VP, You can't win the election. Very bad choice.

Humphrey: Senator from Humphrey and famous liberal. Help you in north but the South leaves to Dixiecrat and Republican Party. It looks similar to Russell, but Humphrey is actually a good choice. because you can win the election without south.

Harriman: Director of the Mutual Security Agency. Help you in Nationwide. Very good choice.

Barkley: Vice President. Just same with Sparkman, but Sparkman slightly hold the edge. also he has Health problems.

Kerr: Senator from Oklahoma. Just same with Sparkman and Barkley, but Sparkman and Barkley slightly hold the edge.

Kerry: War hero. Greatly help you in Nationwide, It's undoubtedly the best choice.

So Ranking is

  2. Harriman
  3. Humphrey
  4. Sparkman
  5. Barkley

Answer

  1. Yes, we must distance ourselves from the unpopular President Truman and emphasize that I am my own man. We will avoid campaigning with Truman.
  2. Only one answer, but If you select Sparkman or Kefauver, Just select More long answer.
  3. No, although he is a madman he is very popular, especially among conservatives and southerners who we could risk bringing closer to Eisenhower.
  4. We will make TV ads on topics like Social Security, Education, and other domestic issues. In these ads we will defend the legacy of the New Deal and also mention the Presidency of Herbert Hoover and the Great Depression.

The M4 Sherman, officially Medium Tank, M4, was the most widely used medium tank by the United States and Western Allies in World War II. The M4 Sherman proved to be reliable, relatively cheap to produce, and available in great numbers. It was also the basis of several other armored fighting vehicles including self-propelled artillery, tank destroyers, and recovery vehicles. Tens of thousands were distributed through the Lend-Lease program to the British Commonwealth and Soviet Union. The tank was named by the British for the American Civil War general William Tecumseh Sherman.[citation needed]

Are we ready? Can we change our mindset? Can we live without the systems we now know as staples?

https://www.academia.edu/5230816/Are_we_really_ready_for_Dosclosure

As researchers, we spend much time and effort investigating the phenomenon of UFOs. Given the preponderance of evidence many of us have come to make one simple conclusion: There is definitely something happening in the skies over the entire planet.
Two possible deductions can be gleaned from such numerous observations. 1) The observed phenomenon is a technology so far advanced they must be coming from a distant alien civilization which is able to use technology far advanced from what we currently have publicly available, and 2) The observed phenomenon are Earthbound technologies which have been suppressed for many years while the technology is developed in secret β€œblack budget projects” for military purposes.
There are pundits in both these camps. No matter what the truth is, the general population is NOT getting the whole story. In reality the most probable situation is a composite of both these scenarios. The history of sightings goes back for centuries and hundreds of β€œwhistleblowers” have given testimonies in the last fifty years attesting to the existence of such technology. After reading this information a knowledgeable UFO Investigator will understand how difficult it may be to conclude from an objects behavior which scenario it belongs to.
I've always said that if "they" are coming here from a "distant" solar system, then they're probably not packing their lunch for the whole trip and stopping for "gas" or β€œa burger” on the way. This would mean they're completely self-sufficient and probably very well resourced with recyclable material and advanced energy technologies.
You should think about that previous paragraph very carefully. It probably is the most important realization you can ever come to. The ramifications are astounding. "If" that is true, then it means that the possibility of limitless and extremely inexpensive energy is real. It also means that true and limitless abundance is imminent. It is our destiny.
The evidence uncovered from my research leads me to understand that the whole UFO phenomenon is kept secret primarily not because of the "ET" aspect of it, - although that does scare some people out of their mind, but mainly because of the ramifications which would inevitably cause the current economic and geopolitical structure to collapse. A collapse which is inevitable due t

SERIOUS: This subreddit needs to understand what a "dad joke" really means.

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.

Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.

Thoughts and opinions/critiques about my secret clandestine paramilitary government agency?

(Yes, I know that this sounds very similar to Tom Clancy’s The Division. Yes, I was heavily inspired by The Division)

For some context, in my world, zombies have risen up and taken over much of the world after a Chinese-North Korean biological weapons test goes horribly wrong in 2025. Within a year, half of the world population has been zombified by this virus and few nations have survived.

During what became known as The Collapse, the president, with support from the Speaker of the House and Chief Justice, signed off on Directive 39, activating the Strategic Civil Defense Division/SCDD (commonly referred to as β€œthe Division” (yes, very obvious reference to Tom Clancy’s The Division)), a secret clandestine independent paramilitary government agency like the CIA that operates strictly on American soil in times of great sorrow.

HISTORY

The Strategic Civil Defense Division was originally conceived by President Dwight D. Eisenhower due to his experience during WWII, with the Pearl Harbor being what inspired him as president to form the Strategic Civil Defense Division. The SCDD would finally be officially formed by President John F. Kennedy in early 1962 in anticipation of potential hostile Soviet military actions within the Western Hemisphere that could threaten the American homeland which would necessitate certain citizens with specialized skills to assist local, state, and federal authorities in maintaining order, providing humanitarian aid, etc. while also fighting back against potential armed and hostile parties who may take advantage of such a crisis. SCDD agents would only be activated should a true national catastrophic crisis occur where the authorities and officials at all levels of government are expected to require support.

The very first agents of the Division were recruited from the FBI, CIA, and elite units of the military. The first generation of agents, being only 100-strong, were immediately activated and posted to strategic locations across the country in response to the Cuban Missile Crisis. Over time, the Division would work out the kinks within itself and pass reforms to make itself a better organization, such as expanding and diversifying its target occupations to include the medical field, trade jobs, etc. instead of restricting its target occupations to include those with military and law enforcement experience.

The next time that SCDD agents would be activated was during 9/11 when President George W. Bush ordered

Alot of great jokes get posted here! However just because you have a joke, doesn't mean it's a dad joke.

THIS IS NOT ABOUT NSFW, THIS IS ABOUT LONG JOKES, BLONDE JOKES, SEXUAL JOKES, KNOCK KNOCK JOKES, POLITICAL JOKES, ETC BEING POSTED IN A DAD JOKE SUB

Try telling these sexual jokes that get posted here, to your kid and see how your spouse likes it.. if that goes well, Try telling one of your friends kid about your sex life being like Coca cola, first it was normal, than light and now zero , and see if the parents are OK with you telling their kid the "dad joke"

I'm not even referencing the NSFW, I'm saying Dad jokes are corny, and sometimes painful, not sexual

So check out r/jokes for all types of jokes

r/unclejokes for dirty jokes

r/3amjokes for real weird and alot of OC

r/cleandadjokes If your really sick of seeing not dad jokes in r/dadjokes

Edit: this is not a post about NSFW , This is about jokes, knock knock jokes, blonde jokes, political jokes etc being posted in a dad joke sub

Then the other muffin says "AHH, TALKING MUFFIN!!!"

Dropped my best ever dad joke & no one was around to hear it

For context I'm a Refuse Driver (Garbage man) & today I was on food waste. After I'd tipped I was checking the wagon for any defects when I spotted a lone pea balanced on the lifts.

I said "hey look, an escaPEA"

No one near me but it didn't half make me laugh for a good hour or so!

Edit: I can't believe how much this has blown up. Thank you everyone I've had a blast reading through the replies πŸ˜‚

Official Humphrey/NPP-Centre Submod Announcement! (+ teaser)

Alright folks, after several effort posts based in analyzing the issues around the Harrington Presidency, RFK's fail state and the general lack of flavor for the NPP-Centre as a political faction beyond "welfare and bombs", it has come to pass that several people who are familiar with TNO coding, design and writing have approached me about actually implementing these ideas along with a few others. So with this post on Submod Sunday alongside the initial teaser, I happily announce Who will survive in America, a mod dedicated to the revamp primarily of the NPP-Centre and to a lesser extent the NPP-Left, particularly in its relationship with the Centre.

Put in order from least extreme to most extreme in terms of volume, here are the different features of the submod that we hope to do:

>Additional Flavor Events, Descriptions and more: Mainly focused on defining the Centre as a Labor Party of sorts the heir to Depression Era Populist Parties, Henry Wallace's Progressives and Moderate Socialists. You can find more information on this history here. Aside from stuff specifically relating to the Centre, more event and descriptors around what the United States looks like in TNO compared to OTL will be included, based off both the OTL 1960s, the Great Depression and my estimations of the state of things. This will involve additional flavor events, national spirits, etc. scattered across the United States exploring a world where the leviathan of the West lost World War Two, good context but not an extreme undertaking.

>Relabeling the Republican-Democratic Party factions: This is a bit of an bigger task when compared to the above extra flavor events due to having to go through various files for events, descriptions and the such to make sure its uniform, but beyond that little actual content will be changed. One of the longest running issues with the R-D lore is the identification of the sub-factions as the Republicans being the Liberal Wing and the Democrats as the Conservative. This led to various debates around issues like Republican LBJ, the disappearance of

DRAFT TR

Administration:

Vice President: John R. Lynch

Secretary of State: Shelby M. Cullom

Secretary of the Treasury: George Walbridge Perkins

Secretary of War: John M. Parker

Attorney General: Charles J. Bonaparte

Secretary of the Navy: Albert J. Beveridge

Secretary of the Interior: Joseph M. Carey

Postmaster General: George L. Wellington

Secretary of Agriculture: Marion Butler

Secretary of Labor: Terence V. Powderly

Secretary of Science and Technology: George Wastinghouse

With a Department of Science and Technology proposed during the Hearst years, it would finally come into being in April of 1909, with electrical pioneer George Westinghouse selected as the Department's first Secretary.

President Roosevelt's inaugural address would be heralded as

Thoughts and opinions/critiques about my secret clandestine paramilitary government agency?

Bush ordered the immediate activation of SCDD agents throughout the entire country (a first ever) the moment the Twin Towers were hit.
