A list of puns related to "Edwin Hall"
One of Rogue's most integral class identities is the burgle mechanic which has never really saw viable play over its more tempo/miracle play strategies. Tess was never nearly as problematic as Edwin was, arguably she was fun for both the player and the opponent because it allowed nonlinear strategies that could end up in hilarious gamestates, whereas Edwin has always been about cheating him out as quick as possible, and stealing otherwise even matchups. Not to say Tess couldn't potentially become a Shudderwock-type menace, but that's completely up to the design team on balancing burgle cards going forward, plus she never was broken in standard or wild. Because as of now, there is not really any endgame reward for playing burgle cards. (The quest and Yogg don't count imo). If Tess's desgin as of now seems design inhibitive of burgle cards in the future, maybe rework another version of her like they did with Reno and others.
TLDR: replace Edwin with Tess Greymane or some sort of reworked version of her to make the class actually reward you for playing out it's Burgle Class identity
Celestalon tweeted this thread: >I'm seeing this topic discussed in Twitch chat, in Reddit, on Twitter, etc, so I'll just respond generally here...
>Let's talk about Edwin VanCleef, and why he isn't going to the Hall of Fame (at least, not yet, anyway).
>Edwin was very much on our short list of potential cards to Hall of Fame this year. (Sea Giant was the other close contender).
>He definitely has been extremely powerful, for a long time. So, why not rotate him? Well, a couple reasons:
>- He's really good, but he's also in a class, not Neutral, and that goes a long way.
>- He's also right up Rogue's alley in terms of class identity.
>- He skews Rogue in general toward playing lots of little cards, but not toward any particular archetype overly strongly.
>- Much of his current power level is dependent upon Year of the Dragon cards. This sort of ebb/flow with expansions is good! Not disputing that he's been pretty strong all along, but Year of the Dragon in particular has had really strong synergies for him.
>This is definitely a card that we'll continue to reevaluate each year, so I wouldn't be surprised if Edwin does make it to the Hall of Fame in the future. But at least for the Year of the Phoenix, we think the Standard game is better with him still there.
It feels like there's a post about future Hall of Famers in this subreddit once a day, which makes sense. Everyone loves to speculate and make bold predictions, and it's fun to imagine some of the league's best making speeches in Cooperstown one day. But, I noticed one name never comes up in these discussions: Edwin Encarnacion. Rightfully so, because on paper he doesn't seem like a Hall of Famer. Yeah, he can hit, but he's spent a lot of his career as a DH, and his fielding ability as a first basemen seems to be below average. But, let's say he somehow gets to 500 home runs. Odds of that happening aside, would he be voted into the Hall of Fame simply because he joined the 500 club?
If you just want to answer that hypothetical question as is, go ahead. But I find this pretty interesting and I'm pretty much just finding all of this information as I go, so if you want to keep reading I'm going to provide some more context below on how he could get to 500 home runs, the importance of joining the 500 club, and what I personally think would happen.
Currently, the 37-year-old Encarnacion sits at 414 home runs, having hit 34 last season while appearing in just 109 games. During this offseason, he signed with the White Sox, who ranked 5th in home runs per game in 2019. Additionally, over the last 3 seasons, he's averaged a little over 34 home runs a year while averaging 134 games played each year. I believe that we will have baseball this year, but obviously the likely shortened season will hurt his chances. Assuming that the season starts in July and teams play around 80games like the MLB is hoping, I think it's realistic that he hits close to 15 home runs. That puts him at 429 home runs going into his age-38 season
Is it likely that age-38+ Edwin Encarnacion is able to hit 71 home runs before the end of his career? Probably not, but it's certainly not impossible either. If he is able to maintain a starting DH role and stay healthy, I'd say he has a real shot. But that's a really big IF. Basically, it would take a ton of good fortune just for him to get enough at-bats to have a chance, and THEN he'd still have to hit all those home runs. If 2020 was a full season, I fully believe he could reach 500 home runs in his career. Given the circumstances, it's extremely unlikely but still possible, so who knows? Baseball is weird, crazier stuff has happened
The next morning I woke up and had the most satisfying stretch in all my life. I rolled out of bed and skipped to the sink to clean up. I danced over to the closet and pulled out a clean uniform. As I pulled my pants on, I heard a knock at the door.
"Just a second," I called out as I put on at least the undershirt part of the uniform and hurried to the door. I pulled it open to see Axle standing in my doorway with an unamused look on his face.
"Morning," I said with a smile as I turned and walked back to my bed, snatching my jacket up.
"You want to explain something to me?" He asked as he folded his arms and leaned against the door frame.
"Sure, anything," I chirped as I shimmied over to my kitchen table and started tossing things in my bag.
"Lemme tell you what my thoughts sounded like last night, Mister Dragstenn," he said as he stepped in and closed the door.
"Man, I can't believe the exams are over already. Oh, I forgot to wash my uniform. I can't remember if we had a test tomorrow. IT'S REALLY HAPPENING, OH GODS!! I'll have to tell Durin that joke tomorrow. Can't believe I jumped nine whole ranks! I'm wide awake, tomorrow's gonna be tough. OH GODS, OH GODS, OH GODS! DO I WARN HER??"
"OKAY, OKAY, JEEZ," I yelled, pushing past him and peeking out into the hallway. "You made your point, just keep your voice down, I'm sorry!"
"You could have told me to leave, man."
"I didn't know she was gonna do that!" I shot back.
"Well, now I know what your bedroom voice sounds like," he huffed, throwing his arms up as he moved over to my bed.
"I was quiet!" I contended.
"Not in your mind you weren't," he sat down on my bed, then quickly stood back up like it was on fire.
"Well, I'm sorry I wasn't more considerate of my thoughts!"
"Excuse me," Tovin announced his presence from my open doorway. I couldn't take back the jump or the yelp that escaped me as I whirled around.
"Ever heard of knocking??"
"Or at least make some noise when you walk in the room," Axle added.
"There's going to be an announcement about Vega's continuance at the university this morning," Tovin said calmly. "Don't be late to your morning classes."
"What?? No way!" I shouted with the biggest grin. "I gotta say, the wind's really blowing my way lately."
"That is good news," Axle slapped me on the back. "We did it, my man!"
"Don't celebrate until you know for sure," Tovin said sternly.
"Is your face just where smiles go to die?" Axle laughed. "Come on! They wouldn't be an

"Offense taken," I grumbled.
"Offense intended," he responded sharply. "But the year before last, I began to notice that things weren't quite right around here. There had always been sudden expulsions, the reasons for which were none of our collective business, but... then came the expulsion of Liliana Wanaley."
"I actually remember her," Axle interjected. "Yeah, she was a really solid student. Powerful verbal caster, always at the top of the charts when test scores got posted. I considered you and her my academic rivals."
"There was no rivalry," Tovin clarified. "When one person always comes out on top, it isn't called a rivalry, you were merely competing for third place."
"I know a row of scorched lockers who would tell a different story," I said with a grin.
If looks could kill, the stasis field would've had its work cut out for it. I didn't look directly at him, but I could feel his eyes burning a hole in the side of my head. I wasn't necessarily worried; with Fena on my arm, he pretty much couldn't touch me. Having a scary girlfriend had its perks.
"That aside," he said turning his attention back to Axle. "Yes. You remember her correctly. She was brilliant; had plenty of promise. I considered her to be a great asset to Galgia's military intelligence. The only reason her name never climbed over mine on the charts was that my last name came first alphabetically. I couldn't count the number of times both of us scored perfectly. We never spoke to one another, but we would frequently make eye contact in front of the postings. She was the closest thing to a friend I had at this place."
"And you never even spoke to her?" Fena laughed. "Wow. You gotta learn to let people in."
"Agree to disagree," Tovin asserted. "The fact that we never spoke was part of what I enjoyed about our relationship. It was purely competitive. She wasn't interested in friendship; only in bettering herself, only in pushing herself to be the pinnacle of what she could aspire to be. One could say I greatly admired her in that aspect."
"And they expelled someone like that?" Atlas asked. "Why?"
"That's the question now, isn't it?" Tovin asked rhetorically, letting his eyes fall to the steamy spring water. "I felt..." he said befor

"I think this could be it, folks," Headmaster Edwin said grimly as he carefully drew closer to the impact site. The rock elemental slowly rolled backward out of the dust cloudβ truthfully it was hard to tell which part was its front and which was its back.
"I see him," I announced. "His magic signature was behind the elemental's body!"
"Is he okay?" Atlas asked.
"It's like... a ball of magical energy around him," I squinted. "Actually... it could be the stasis field bringing him back to life right now. I can't tell yet."
Suddenly the magical signature changed from a round object back to a human form. He was on his feet and moving his body around.
"No, wait! I think it was some kind of defensive spell! He's casting kinetically right now!"
"Oh, Axle," Fena folded her hands. "Thank goodness!"
A ball of magical light appeared over his shoulder. Then another over his head, then one under his arm, and before I knew it he was surrounded by several floating orbs, each shining brightly like diamonds. His magic was fluctuating wildly at different points in his body as the orbs began to rotate around him.
"His reserves are diminishing rapidly!" I informed Atlas and Fena. "I don't know what's about to happen, but you better not blink!"
"I still can't see anything!" Atlas whined.
"Something bright is happening in there," said Fena as she stared into the dust cloud. "What is he doing??"
Suddenly the orbs all shot forward and out of the dust cloud, surrounding the rock elemental the same way they had surrounded Axle just seconds ago. The confused creature started swatting at the orbs, but they didn't appear to be tangible.
"THAT'S A SPELL!!" Edwin cried out. "HE'S ALIVE!!"
The crowd came unglued; it was clear they had a favorite at this point.
Axle began moving around again from within the cloud, but it had cleared to a degree that you'd be able to make out his form with the naked eye. He turned his body sideways and threw both of his arms toward the elemental, a beam of radiant magic energy exploding from his fingertips. The beam of light collided with one of the orbs, then lept from that orb through the elemental into another orb! It repeated the process immediately upon contact with the second orb, shredding through the stone monster again and again at an increasing speed until t

There wasn't any time.
As I stepped onto the side of the arena wall, I felt myself get yanked back by my collar. I tumbled back onto the floor of the stands and looked up to see Headmaster Norah standing above me, her steely gaze piercing me like daggers.
"What were you thinking?" She asked.
"I've got to do something!"
"You're in no condition," she said coldly. "The plan is for us headmasters to keep it contained within the arena via seven-pronged barrier until the spectators have had time to escape. We will handle the monster then. If you want to help, then make sure our guests leave safely."
"Not a chance," I growled as I got to my feet.
"And what is it you think you can do?" She snapped at me.
"More than nothing," I answered before vaulting over the side and plummeting into the arena. She started yelling something at me but Edwin's voice boomed all around us as I landed and rolled with my momentum the way Fena had.
"Everyone remain calm. Please leave the stadium at the designated exits in an orderly fashion. I assure you, the beast will be contained until you're at a safe distance, and then dealt with by Galgia's most powerful mages. You are one hundred percent safe."
But that didn't account for everyone. Her screaming was making my stomach turn. I stared up at the beastβ it was even larger than I'd thought. Tovin was still frozen in place on the ground as he watched the spectacle play out before him. I gritted my teeth and hurried toward himβ I was going to need his help.
"Get up!!" I screamed as I picked him up by his arms. He found his feet beneath him and turned to see me staring him dead in the eyes. "Get it together!! I'm gonna need you for this!"
"Y-you fool!" He shot back. "What can we do against something like that??"
"Can you cast that spell again?" I yelled.
"W-what?"
"THAT SPELL!! THE BEAM!! CAN YOU CAST IT??"
He stared at me for a second before nodding, "Yes. Yes, I can cast it one more time. But it won't be enough for something of this caliber, you half-wit!"
"Through the eye," I asserted. "Its eyes are probably soft. Could you do it?"
"... Yes, but I'd have to get close."
"I'll distract it!" I yelled. "When all four of its eyes are on me, take it down!"
He stared at me for several seconds before I grabbed him by his shoulders, "TOVIN!! ARE YOU NUMBER ONE OR NOT??"
"ALRIGHT!!" He screamed back, slapping my hands away. "Alright. If you give me the opening... I'll try."

I found it hard to believe Atlas was even capable of that. It was the stuff of legends, truly. I turned my eyes back down to Atlas and stared at him intently. His magic appeared to be back in working order, but what had I just seen? Those shapes and patterns within his bodyβ it was arranged like it was script. I had never in my life truly questioned the origins of the power we controlled. What was it exactly? Where did it come from? The way our school system taught it, we discovered it, but how? It wasn't like it was always around. Sure, they attributed it to Herloi, but that goddess existed before magic, and nowhere in the old texts does it mention magic in any capacity. In fact, it felt more like the afterthought of a lazy author. One day in the modern era they just decided that magic derived from Her, and started adding it to her list of accolades.
But after the time I'd spent at ENU, I was beginning to feel like there was something hiding under the surfaceβ something being kept secret by powerful people. Something worth killing four students to keep under wraps. I had a lot of questions and I was starting to feel like Galgalim was the answer to all of them.
I heard the crowd making a commotion and turned around quickly to see Leo stumbling out of the little tent as if he was some kind of newborn animal. I was secretly shocked that the stasis field was able to put him together after what I'd seen. The stasis field was no stranger to dismemberment, but being blown to bits? I was amazed it was able to piece him back together like that. I got the sensation however as I watched him, that he wasn't whole. He looked around at his surroundings as though he didn't remember where he was. What was even stranger than that, however, was that he didn't appear to have any magical signature at all. Headmaster Vega exited the tent and put his arm around Leo before waving at the audience. They cheered for his safety before Vega quickly guided Leo back into the tent. I narrowed my eyes and started toward the tent before I heard Headmaster Rowan's voice.
"Mister Dragstenn," he called from behind me. "Would you be so kind as to assist Mister Grimbrooke out of the arena?"
I stopped and closed my eyes before turning around and forcing a smile, "Of course, Headmaster Rowan."

I don't want to step on anybody's toes here, but the amount of non-dad jokes here in this subreddit really annoys me. First of all, dad jokes CAN be NSFW, it clearly says so in the sub rules. Secondly, it doesn't automatically make it a dad joke if it's from a conversation between you and your child. Most importantly, the jokes that your CHILDREN tell YOU are not dad jokes. The point of a dad joke is that it's so cheesy only a dad who's trying to be funny would make such a joke. That's it. They are stupid plays on words, lame puns and so on. There has to be a clever pun or wordplay for it to be considered a dad joke.
Again, to all the fellow dads, I apologise if I'm sounding too harsh. But I just needed to get it off my chest.
Wh-what did he just say?
I stared at the headmasters across the table and they stared back at me; their eyes were deathly serious. The tension in the room was pulverizing as I desperately searched for anything to say back to them.
"There's no use in denying it," Headmaster Vega spoke up. He was the second youngest headmaster at ENU. He had brown hair with faint streaks of grey along the sides, and wore it tied back in a short ponytail. He had bushy black eyebrows and striking pitch black eyes. "We've already spoken to your friends. In exchange for their continued enrollment here at ENU, they've given you up."
How was this possible? Fena seemed pretty serious when she said she'd lie for me, and I got that sense from Axle too. It couldn't have been Atlas. There's nobody else at the school who knows either.
"Sneaking around the halls at night is one thing," Headmaster Vega continued. "But destruction of school property and running from Inquisitor Imandr when he commanded you to stop," he tightened his fist and pounded it against the table. "That is unforgivable!"
I slowly turned to look at the cloaked man.
He's an inquisitor? What is an inquisitor doing here at ENU?
"Your behavior," Headmaster Rowan began. "Is unbecoming of a student at this prestigious institution. Expulsion is the only proper punishment."
I felt as though I were about to cry. My heart raced and my body felt as though pins and needles were poking me from all directions. I thought I had gotten away clean. My breathing quickened as I raced to defend myself.
"But, wait, hold on!" I stammered.
"SILENCE!" Headmaster Vega screamed.
My lip quivered as I looked helplessly around the room. How had they figured it out? And beyond a shadow of a doubt, at that?
"If I may," spoke Headmaster Alrune.
"You have the floor," Headmaster Rowan muttered.
"Mister Dragstenn shows incredible potential. He is very unique. While he still has not reached his full potential, I believe expulsion from our university would be a detrimental blow to the future of our nation." He turned and smiled at me, "I see great promise in him. Can there truly be no other way?"
All eyes turned to Headmaster Rowan. He closed his tired eyes and thought briefly before sitting down in his chair and laying his staff across the table in front of him.
"Does anyone else agree with Headmaster Alrune's motion?" He asked with a rattly sigh.
Headmaster Alrune lifted his hand to signal the voting had begun.

"Tovin is getting expelled for sure this time."
"I heard there were riots in the Basandra province."
I took a swig of my coffee and turned to see Axle approaching the table with an egg sandwich. I acknowledged him with a quick nod before turning my gaze back out the window.
"Lemme see it," he said as a parent would to their child as he sat down at the table.
I sighed and turned to face him.
"Yikes," he said as he curled his lip. "That bruise is green in the middle, my man."
"Yep," I responded dryly. "It was hard to sleep with this thing on my face."
"I bet," he said before taking a bite of his sandwich. "You think they're gonna exchpell Tovin?"
"... I did at first, but now I'm not so sure," I said as I looked down into my mug. "I actually don't believe any of the rumors I've heard. I'd bet you money the whole incident gets swept under the rug."
He took a drink of his milk and wiped his mouth with his sleeve, "Really? You think the auguries will just let this go?"
"I do," I replied as I swirled the liquid around in my mug. "Think about it. Both schools look bad for this. If the story actually gets out to the public, they're going to learn that the seven Auguries were utterly destroyed by a single ENU student. The tension between the Gohblu and Basandra provinces would worsenβ might even lead to fights in the street."

"Thanks. And don't call me that."
I took the final swig of my lukewarm coffee and stood up.

"Yeah, I'm spending the morning studying. I'm not confident about my tactics test tomorrow. You?"
He reached into his breast pocket and produced a letter with a purple seal on it.
"Oh," I said.
"Yep. Looks like it's time."
"Well... Don't do anything too reckless, Axle."
"You're one to talk," he shot back.
"I'll be fine," he added with a smile. "If you find yourself with free time tonight, Atlas and I are gonna hit the bathhouse around six-thirty. You're welcome to join us."
"Bathhouse is closed for cleaning on Sundays," I reminded him as I grabbed my tray.

I felt like I was breathing too loud and tried to steady myself; if we were caught here, it wouldn't end well for anyone.
He moved quietly, slowly placing one foot after the other as he neared the bed, watching with unblinking eyes like a predator preparing to pounce. Imagining Fena alone in this room and sleeping in that bed made my hairs stand on end. He produced from within his clothing a syringe. My eyes widened as he reached for the covers, readjusting his grip on the syringe in his right hand as his anticipation built. In one swift motion, he yanked the covers down and plunged the syringe into the pile of blankets. He paused in his confusion before pulling the blankets out and looking around the room. He was muttering something to himself as he turned and made for the door. Suddenly, Tovin dropped from the ceiling, landing just between him and the door frame.
