By all accounts, American Dream had it all. Never had the makings of a varsity athlete, but that was a part of his charm looks wise. Dusty was a big guy, in terms of both height and weight, plus he had that wholesome smile and the over the top blonde hair, along with cool pre-match jackets. The innovator of charisma and a terrific promo, Dusty could play both roles convincingly. Moreover, he was a proven draw in the 70's and 80's, with several wrestlers like Jake The Snake and Konnan mentioning how Dusty was the man in the business at one point in time.
In correlation with his look, Dusty was not a great wrestler by today's standards, but he was an amazing worker. Always getting the crowd involved, his signature offence always popped the people when he was on the attack, and his selling always made them sad when he was getting his ass beat. Taking every element that makes a great performer into account ( look, in-ring work, charisma, character and promo work ), Dusty was seemingly the man.
Behind the scenes, Dusty was arguably one of the most influential men in the history of pro wrestling. Many, many, many people were under The Dream's learning tree, including Scott Hall, DDP, both of his sons of course and the entire FCW / NXT crew. Hulk Hogan, Shawn Michaels, The Rock, Tommy Dreamer and Ric Flair were all influenced by Dream, calling him an inspiration. Now of course, Dusty was guilty of the cardinal sin that every wrestler-turned-booker commits - booking himself on top as long as possible, but we are not focusing on that here. Putting it all together, from a performance and behind the scenes standpoint, can we confidently call American Dream one of the greats, or as the kids say it today, one of the GOATS ?
Happy to see the tradition is still on and itβs one of my favorite time of the year !
The menβs side seems mor obvious but they always have that « two guys who arenβt in a tag team and now theyβre teaming upΒ Β» bit so Iβm intrigued and I secretly want to see Ciampa & Thatcher go at it.
The womenβs side is more intriguing with two clear teams and the occasion to put new women on the map.
What are your toughts, predictions?
Thatβs it. Thatβs the jerk. Theyβre saying that shit now.
I mean, their prompt styles are different, Eddie isnβt likable in the least, he works nothing like Dusty, they look nothing alike, they attract different fanbases, Eddie is about 1/1000th as talented, Dusty looks like a star and Eddie doesnβt.....but they both are/were overweight soooo 1:1 comparison, baybay!!!
Dusty Rhodes is rightfully regarded as one of the most influential men in pro-wrestling history. He was a big name in the NWA, the Hard Times promo is one of the greatest mic-moments in history, he created freaking War Games, was highly influential in a backstage role in WCW and helped major names like DDP, and is also known for his backstage work in NXT during his final years.
When Dusty passed away, Cody was doing nothing of note on WWE TV and was donning the persona of Stardust. Little did Dusty know that Cody himself would go on to become one of the most influential men in all of pro-wrestling in just a few years time.
Cody's WWE exit and the events that followed have led us to the present time and it isn't a stretch to say that decades from now, he will be remembered as a respected legend who was instrumental in the creation of a legit wrestling promotion, which eventually resulted in bigger and better things, and brought back tons of lapsed fans.
I would never have imagined back during his Stardust days that something like this would end up happening in a few years. Cody's story is one of the most feel-good ones I've seen in a while and the only thing I wish should have happened is that Dusty was here to see him do big things and be proud of his son.
nWo Wolfpac were the tweener-turned-babyface nWo faction led by Kevin Nash while nWo Hollywood remained the heel nWo faction led by Hollywood Hogan.
The babyface Wolfpac faction were composed of Nash, Randy Savage, Konnan, Lex Luger and Sting, while the original nWo B&W faction were composed of Hogan, Eric Bischoff, The Disciple, Bret Hart, Brian Adams, Scott Steiner, Vincent, The Giant, Buff Bagwell, Scott Norton, Stevie Ray, Horace Hogan and Barry Windham.
According to Wikipedia, it looked like Hennig, Hall, Dusty, Elizabeth and Rude initially sided with the Wolfpac as soon as the nWo got broken up into two factions, especially when Hall made his return to the '98 Slamboree PPV wearing the nWo Black & Red colors to a standing ovation after a stint in rehab. But then they returned to the nWo B&W faction.
I couldnβt take it any more.
Iβm currently creating my NWA universe and Iβm looking for the Dusty Classic logo without NXT.
This is gonna be a long post, also I tried my best with the grammar
