After gaining some national name recognition in an unsuccessful 1984 campaign, Hart runs out his term as Senator in 1986 as in the OTL, but he never starts an affair with Donna Rice. Gephardt finishes 2nd in Iowa to Hart and Dukakis ends up 4th in NH (and drops out) . Gephardt never picks up steam in subsequent contests and Jesse Jackson is Hart's only real competition (and is selected as the VP) .
Bush is never challenged in the primaries, but picks Pat Robertson as his running mate (unlike in the OTL, Dan Quayle was killed in November 1978 along with Congressman Leon Ryan in Jonestown, Guyan).
