A list of puns related to "Don Giovanni Records"
Hi, I'm Joe Steinhardt. I grew up in Philadelphia and New Jersey and started Don Giovanni Records while I was in college to support the local NJ music scene I grew up around. We are fully independent, do not sign contracts with our artists, avoid partnering with multi-national brands and companies whenever possible, and do everything we can to maintain ethics and integrity over financial success and popularity. It has been a long journey to where we are now and there are forces in the music industry that will make it so there is no space for labels like ours or any other independent labels in the future if listeners keep supporting them. So AMA about that, running a record label, how independent music works, or anything else you want to know about and I will do my best to answer honestly.
I also got my PhD while running the label and am currently a university professor if you are curious about that kind of thing.
Oh, my proof, lest someone think this is an imposter: https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DXD6s72W4AAj_B7.jpg
Also, I realized maybe you aren't familiar with the label but you do know our artists and maybe that will help you think of things you want to know. We've worked with artists over the years like Screaming Females, Laura Stevenson, Waxahatchee, Priests, Chris Gethard, Alice Bag, L7, Aye Nako, Moor Mother, California X, The Ergs!, Nude Beach, Priests, Tenement, P.S. Eliot, Jeffrey Lewis, Peter Stampfel, Worriers, and Shellshag and more: http://dongiovannirecords.com/artists/
EDIT: okay, I think i answered all the questions but I'm happy to come back around later if there are any more. Thanks again for doing this and check out our subscription service if you like our label and want to support our artists: https://dongiovannirecords.bandcamp.com/subscribe
We've got an AMA happening tomorrow, and that AMA is of course Joe Steinhardt, co-founder of Don Giovanni Records, who'll be joining us tomorrow at 1:00 PM EST!
Just this Friday, the label put out the latest album from Screaming Females (whose AMA you can read here), ***All At Once***. But also recently, the label just announced a brand new subscription service via Bandcamp. So, if you want to support the label and help put out records from artists like Moor Mother, Sammus, Lee Bains III & the Glory Fires, Alice Bag, Outer Spaces, Bat Fangs, Aye Nako, and more, definitely check it out, as the service is starting at $65/year!
So, make sure to swing back tomorrow at 1:00 PM EST for the AMA!

I just watched The Magic Flute and loved it, and now I want more. What would people here recommend for a video recording of Don Giovanni?
If you're (internally) 104 years old like me, your favorite bass may be Ezio Pinza. Luckily, there are many many live recordings of him in his most famous role. Which one is your favorite and why? I already have his 1937 Salzburg performance as well as a 1967 production with Siepi, Sutherland, Gedda, etc. Any other Pinza Dons I need in my life? The '37 is shockingly clear for such an old live recording, but I'd love to find any better performances of Pinza in the role!
After watching the movie Amadeus for the first time, I want to check out Mozart's Don Giovanni. I'm pretty new in the opera world, having listened to only about 6 or 7 operas total. My local library has a TON of Don Giovanni recordings by nearly as much conductors. BΓΆhm, Klemperer, Solti, Muti, FurtwΓ€ngler, Addabo, Karajan... A lot of great names and sometimes even multiple recordings by the same conductor.
Which one do you recommend for the first time? And is there a website that compares the most prolific conductors and their styles as a guideline for future reference?
I took my daughter out yesterday, and again today, trying to get her Giovanni quest completed. So far we have tried 20 possible Giovanni locations, and all have been decoys. It was not this difficult for me, so we both are more than a little frustrated. Maybe setting a record would at least make us feel slightly better...
I've hit a brick wall in researching my great-great-grandfather. I've mainly been focused on using FamilySearch records, but haven't gotten any search results from gravesites, ancestry, etc. either. Any help or tips on other places to look would be greatly appreciated! Below is the only information I've been able to find:
Unfortunately that's all I have - as mentioned any leads or ideas on where else to look would be fantastic! Thank you!
I haven't read a book in a very long time, I'm so glad that I decided to start with Giovanni's room. It was so captivating and sensual. It has a woken me from a deep slumber and I am just so happy to have read it. James Bladwin taps into humanity of obligation and self-sacrifice in such a poetic way. It makes me want to write again. I've always found books to be like therapy and James Bladwin is truly an amazing threrapist, digging his way through my psyche. If you are looking for a book to truly rock you, read Giovanni's room then read it again for effect.
Amazon HR told an employee she would have to take unpaid time off after being unable to make it to work in the wake of destruction left by tornados in Kentucky. Their response is unsurprisingly amazon-esk.
