This might be a silly question but can dogs learn multiple smells? Do they build up a smell "vocabulary"? Or do you need to decide what smell you're going to teach them and stick with it?

Ugh I knew a dog once with a name that have the same letters as the name I want to use so I have to eliminate those letters from my vocabulary!

Edit: ugh you can see how distraught I am based on the grammar error in my title. Please just ignore it I am going through a crisis right now.

Guys, I was visiting my parents in another country and met a dog named Max. Now every name with M and A and X is just RUINED for me. Should I stop using these letters in daily life forever? That's reasonable, right? What if name my kid Michael and someone finds out this dog and my kid both have M and A in their name? This is a disaster and I can't believe my parents would let me visit without telling me there was a dog with this name on their street when they know how much I love the letters M and A and X. I'm just so crushed.

Guys, I'm just thinking about all the names I can't ever use for my theoretical children I'm not having for at least 5 years and I just can't believe they'd do this and that goddammned dog would have the audacity to approach me on the street.

Should I contact interpol?

While dogs have the vocabulary of a two-year-old, cats have the personality of one.

I love all pets, but there's an unsettling overlap in how often both my kids and my cats have maintained eye contact and continued to chew while I told them to get that cord out of their mouths.

The dog, at least, had the sense to look embarrassed he got caught.

Vocabulary to coo to dogs or pets in general?

So yeah I love dogs and cats and animals of all kind, but when I go to a German dog for example, my mind goes blank on what to say to them. In English I go made saying things in a childish voice β€œwho’s a good boy? Who’s the bestest boy?” But I feel like saying in German β€œguter Junge” to a dog sounds awkward. So what are your best coping German words to speak to animals?

Help with Japanese dog vocabulary

Hi! Sorry if this isn't the right place to post, but I'm going to Japan in March and I can't find any resources to help me find the phrases I'm looking for.

I really like dogs and want to be able to say a few things to dog owner(s) I see on the street.

I have this for "what's his/her name?" Kare/kanojo no onamae wa nan desu ka?

Is this correct in this context? Can I say "kare wa totemo kawaii desu" or do I need desu ne or another word at the end?

Also trying to learn:

Is he friendly?

May I pet him?

He's a good boy.

I love dogs. (I tried googling this and got a few different answers so just wondering the best way to say this).

Thanks so much!!
