Could you recommend any 3D camera with low working distance (<= 300mm), good resolution and large FOV?

Hi, I am looking for some 3D cameras that can work at a very short distance (less than 30 cm). I think ToF cameras won't work at a short range. Stereo cameras might be the best option for me. Could you recommend any camera that can work at a short distance and have a good resolution and large FOV? If large FOV is not applicable, please suggest any lens for increasing the FOV.

[PC] Proof that draw distance is directly tied to a 4K native resolution

Obviously, this has been rumored for a while, but I was skeptical, so I decided to test it.

Many PC users in r/ForzaHorizon and r/forza, myself included, have found themselves facing bizarrely short draw distance, to the point where foliage becomes two dimensional only a few feet down the road. While changing the geometry setting to Extreme does seem to help, it doesn't fix the problem. Keep in mind that this doesn't appear to be the same thing as the bug with Ultra textures.

Here is an example of what I mean. On phones or smaller screens, the difference may be difficult to spot, so just zoom in. The bush located within the black box is a flat, fairly low-res, 2-dimensional shape in the image on the left. When the LaFerrari moves forward, to the same location as the skid marks in the left image, the bush pops into a more detailed 3D model. Interestingly, this doesn't happen for all foliage. It only appears to happen on grass, ground textures, bushes, and certain types of trees. Notice that the palm tree just to the left of the box is unchanged in both images. Unfortunately, the effect becomes very pronounced at speed, to a distracting degree. Foliage starts to pop in as you pass it.

Draw distance is a necessary part of large-scale video games; it maintains a large and detailed map without having to render everything at once. However, this is unusually close to the player's view. It may be one of the closer draw distances I've seen in recent memory, much worse than FH3 and FH4. Even GTA V has better draw distance, especially when modded, and that game actually has traffic.

What can be done? Well, many have suggested that the draw distance may be locked behind 4K resolution, and that does appear to be the case.

I have made a side-by-side comparison. In both images, the graphics settings are maxed out with everything set to the highest setting available, typically Extreme. Also in use is 8x MSAA and FXAA, as high as you can go. Nothing is overwritten in NVidia Control Panel. With everything maxed out, this is theoretically the best graphical experience the game is capable of offering.

By default, the game does not let you set the resolution in the "Video" tab beyond your native resolution. To get around that, I used NVidia DSR with a 4x multiplier to trick the game into thinking that 4K was an option. Keep in mind that I am using a 1920x1080 display for this comparison, so I'm not actually gaining any detail. Theoretically

Low Draw Distance / Texture Resolutions

Hello. So I bought Forza Horizon 5 on Steam on November 9th (When it officialy launched basicaly). I booted the game after I waited a couple of minutes to unpack the game and I ran the benchmark tests. I set the settings to High (Mostly, the less important ones were set to medium) and I had noticed that the draw distance is very low, like the game doesnt load the textures completely even the closer ones. This literaly ruins the game and makes itΒ΄s graphics look like Roblox or some old game. Also, the settings I have chosen didnt match at all with the settings that I saw on youtube. What I want to say itΒ΄s: I set the preset to High and the game doesnΒ΄t look the same as on youtube with the same preset. I am gonna leave here a link to see what my problem is. I have a GTX 1650 4GB and an i5 9300H with 8GB Ram and an SSD M2 NVme 512GB. The game is in Spanish, Baja means Low, Media means Medium and Alta means High. Video with the problem Edit: I know there may be a fix for this, I tried settings the texture quality to extreme and doesnt work.

Are Higher Resolution Phones A Waste Due to Distance?

With the new switch Pro rumored to have an OLED and 720 display, a lot of people were upset that it's a lower resolution.

However Jeff Grubb argues higher resolutions are a waste on these smaller displayers.

https://twitter.com/JeffGrubb/status/1367284061308284928

>I'm begging you. Before you give your Switch Pro takes. Please look at the pixel density of 720p at 7 inches. It's 209 pixels per inch, which is equivalent to a Retina display if you hold it 16 inches away from your face, which you almost certainly do if you are an adult.

>1080p in handheld is a waste of power -- both in terms of performance and battery. Even on your phone, which probably has a super high resolution, games run at 720p because you won't notice the difference, but you would notice your battery draining in 20 minutes.

His second point about games running at a lower resolution is something I didn't know about.

I know this isn't strictly related to android at all, but with the premium samsung phones lowering their displays from 1440p to 1080p, maybe it doesn't matter that much? Thoughts?

I've compiled a list of claims that simply changing resolution in certain games also changes the draw distance, making load on CPU different resolution to resolution. What do you think of this? Should reviewers be careful about these cases?

Rage (1) would also dynamically change quality no matter what, prompting some articles about the problems of benchmarking it. Don't know if that's the case with Rage 2.

Texture lod distance seems tied to rendering resolution and is ruining the benefits of DLSS. Anyway to change this?

I noticed some textures get noticeably blurry by taking a single step back. You can walk back and forth quickly to see the texture blurryness dramatically change. The problem is that how far back you can stand before the texture gets blurry seems to be tied to your rendering resolution. You can stand back further away with 1400p than with 1080p before the sudden sharp to blurry transition happens. This make it hard for DLSS to match native resolution because DLSS actually rendering at a lower resolution, so it has the arbitrarily smaller lod distance. Is there a console command, ini tweak, or whatever to change this?

EDIT:Here's a good example. Notice how the the door is dramatically sharper and more detailed on the native screenshot than on the DLSS screenshot. (Yes, more resolution always makes things less blurry, but not THAT much.)

https://imgsli.com/NTk1MDA

And if you take a few steps forward, the door is suddenly sharp again on DLSS.

Help with analysing and plotting data with different distance resolutions.

Hey,

I have a bunch of data in the form of n by 2 matrices, so the 1st column is the distance and the 2nd is the value at that distance. I want to make a simple plot with the distance as the x axis and the mean of the values at that distance as the y axis.

This is very easy to do if all my matrices have the same number of rows, but they don't. The distances are always from -15 to +15, but with a different numbers of steps :

Distance Value Distance.1 Value.1 ...
-15 1 -15 2 ...
-14.9 3 -14.995 4 ...
-14.8 4 -14.992 2 ...
... ... ... ... ...
15 3 8.959 2 ...
NaN NaN ... ... ...
NaN NaN 15 3 ...

So I don't know how to formulate this question well enough to google it. I want to somehow fill all the columns that are shorter than the longest column with NaNs, so all of the distances that are the same line up nicely to be able to calculate the mean of the values. Something like this :

Distance Value Distance.1 Value.1 ...
-15 1 -15 2 ...
NaN NaN -14.995 4 ...
NaN NaN ... ... ...
-14.8 4 -14.8 2 ...
... ... ... ... ...
NaN NaN 14.995 2 ...
15 2 15 3 ...

I assume this is possible with a Python Lambda Function and pandas DataFrame.apply(), but I'm not sure. Something like :

for each row, compare the value in the distance column to the value of the longest distance column. If its the same, go to next column, else somehow insert NaN values and shift all of the values in the rows below down, except those in the longest matrix (longest two columns)

Thanks for the help!

P.S The data starts off in excel, which I then read into a pandas DataFrame. I'm making the plots with Matplotlib.

Edit: Now that I've thought about it, I might need to remove the values that aren't present in all of the columns, because otherwise the data in the longest column(s) will be over represented in the mean... Or what might be very cool is to somehow condense the longer columns to be the same length as the shortest one by taking the average of the extra data points, to compress them to the same step size.

Major graphical bug for a lot of PC users with the S6 update. Textures seem to be scaling at a much lower resolution but mainly noticeable at a distance.

I have seen a couple of posts regarding this bug which has been introduced with S6, so i am aware there are others with the same issue but to what scale i am unsure. This requires attention because i do not believe Infinity Ward are aware of it and i am worried that it will fall under the radar.

There is literally no comprehensible reason as to why this is happening as far as I am aware.

The best way to explain this bug is that textures around 50 meters ahead are at like 75% resolution scale. I am not sure if this is a universal bug or if it's only effecting a select amount of people.

All graphical settings are the exact same as per pre season 6 update so it's nothing to do with render resolution or reset graphic settings from updating the game. My NVIDIA settings are the exact same too.

If you are having the same bug, please contribute to this post along with the resolution you are using along with any other details you believe may be relevant to share.

Thanks
