BIO
Born in Bernal (Argentina) Diego Milito is of Italian descents, as his family had emigrated from Italy in the β50s. He has a brother named Gabriel (Gabi) who played with him in Real Saragozza and then moved to Barcelona.
Diegoβs nickname is El PrΓncipe, due to his resemblance to former player Enzo Francescoli, also nicknamed the same. El PrΓncipe started his professional career with Racing Club in 1999, and he played in Avellaneda for 5 consecutive seasons for a total of 137 caps and 34 goals. Curiously, during the same period his brother was playing for the other team of the city, Indipendiente. Diego won the Apertura tournament in 2001.
In January 2004 he was signed by Genoa, and he played for 2 seasons in Serie-B, greatly improving his finishing skills and tactical abilities. In August 2005, following a football scandal, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) determined that Genoa would be relegated to Serie-C, and he moved for a two-years loan to Spain (even if he would eventually remain there for three seasons), signed by Real Saragozza. His Spanish period is even better, because in three years he scored 61 goals. The team's results were mixed, as Real Saragozza obtained an 11th place in 2006 (conquering a second place in Copa del Rey, with Diego scoring 4 goals in the first leg of the semifinal against Real Madrid), a 6th in 2007 (UEFA cup spot) but, sadly, a relegation in 2008. During the same summer, after long negotiation, he convinced Real Saragozza to sell him back to Genoa (now back in Serie-A), where the fans had never stopped loving him. The season was very good, and ended with UEFA Cup qualification for the rossoblΓΉ, but it is probably best remembered for the fantastic performances of El PrΓncipe in the two matches against Sampdoria: he scored the only goal of the match in the first 0-1, and a sensational hat trick in the second derby, becoming the first player in the history of Derby della Lanterna to score 3 goals in a match.
In 2009 he was signed by Inter (more on this period below).
After 5 fantastic years, in 2014 he returned to his first club, Racing, winning the league again in 2015. On May 21st 2016 Diego Milito played his last match, retiring from professional football. He played 25 for Argentina, scoring 4 goals, takin
