A list of puns related to "Desegregation"
Let's say Nelson Rockefeller became the nominee in 1964 and encouraged Republicans to fully support desegregation and voting rights, could a Dixiecrat party led by guys like Strom Thurmond, George Wallace, and Orval Faubus form.
If my 8th grade self could see me here, age 28, typing on a laptop this very question he would have been very upset. Tbh I am drawing a major blank of some of the biggest pivotal points in American history. I will start by saying that anyone who thinks all Republicans or Democrats is a racist is a moron. I will also say that history/facts matter. I am on here getting opinions to my large scale misunderstanding surrounding the early/mid 1960s regarding desegregation. I know in 1964 the Civli Rights Act was passed, and it was signed by LBJ. Because of this happening the south states that used to be a solid win for the southern Democrats (Dixiecrats) became Republican strongholds. However, was Barry Goldwater both (A) a blatant pro-segregationalist and also (b) willing to overturn the 1964 Civil Rights Act?
The sources I have read from are basically holding short of saying this - but they somewhat imply it. I am hoping a history geek on here knows this stuff.
One of Truman's major accomplishments as president was the desegregation of the military. One of the things that allowed him to rapidly quicken the process was the war in Korea.
Since the U.S hasn't been in any major conflict since ww2 has he been able to? Or has military desegregation and federal agency desegregation not even begun yet in TWR?
It could definitely add more flavor to the U.S
What was the reaction by the Military at Truman's desegregation order?
